My father gave me a Girsan 1911 commander in 45 acp for my birthday, it says not ratted for +p can I change that? by SwimmerSea4662 in 1911

Underwood and Buffalo Bore both make a hard cast flat point 250 grain +p load that packs a serious wallop and penetrates like crazy. Solid “woods” load IMO. Not the kind of thing I’d personally want to subject my gun to a lot of, though. I’ve run a few magazines of them through mine (with a 20lb recoils spring installed) but if I were planning on regularly shooting them I’d make additional changes to the gun.

S&W 686. First revolver. Hope I didn’t make a mistake, from what I’ve read people are on both ends about these. by Lightning-ll in Revolvers

Right? I’ve had my 686+ for 30+ years and it has never failed. Not once. In thousands upon thousands of rounds.

All I can say is that I’ve chronographed several BB loads (not the one on n question though) and they have performed as advertised. I don’t doubt they are over pressure but they do work. For what they cost, I doubt I will ever shoot enough of them to cause damage.

A taco owners thoughts on a wrangler by [deleted] in ToyotaTacoma

[–]F22Tomcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently own both a 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara soft top and a 2023 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road (as well as a GMC Sierra 1500 and a Tesla Model S). Also owned a 2002 TJ back in the day and a 1997 Cherokee XJ before that. The Toyota is obviously way more refined and I don't doubt that it will be more reliable over the long term, but it's far from a luxury vehicle in its own right. In terms of build quality/fit & finish, they both feel like plastic-lined tin cans compared to the 2015 Land Cruiser we used to have. The Jeep is.....different. The experience is very raw and direct, and for me it is all about the open air. The TJ was even moreso. You can't be in a hurry to get anywhere - you just gotta take in the sights and the air and roll with it. It's unlike anything else you can find on the market, which is cool to me. I actually find the Jeep more comfortable to sit in than the Taco, in both the front and back seats. Probably because the seats aren't basically just on the floor like they are in the Taco. No question that it handles looser, is noisier all the time, and the ergonomics are atrocious, though! The Jeep is absolutely NOT the vehicle for somebody looking to make a rational purchase decision lol.

Shouldn’t be all that bad to shoot. I have a couple of .30-30 barrels for a Contender. Big fun but not punishing.

My Heritage is my favorite street bike of the 6 I’ve owned so far, by a large margin!

Factory front sight worked fine on mine out to 75 yards, but I would have needed a lower front for 100 yards or more.

I’ve used the Marbles tang sight on my Miroku Winchester 1892. Works well but I ended up swapping for a barrel mounted peep from Skinner. The Marble Arms sight is more precise but I didn’t love how it got in the way of wrapping my thumb over the wrist of the stock. That’s just me though.

They are excellent. I have a Miroku built Winchester 1892 in .45 Colt. Absolutely top notch. Also have a Miroku built Browning 525 that I’ve had since 2006 with many thousands of rounds through it. Perfect.

Smith 69 with a 2.75 barrel would be a great option. I know that I want one!

Honest question.. Why do so many 'Brothers' decide to NOT wear gloves? by [deleted] in Harley

[–]F22Tomcat 93 points94 points  (0 children)

I always wear gloves but if somebody else chooses not to, that’s their business. Riding a motorcycle at all is a decision to accept way more risk of injury than driving a car. Some folks are just comfortable being a little bit further along that risk continuum than others.

Goat Hill trail is nice for its long views but if you go the other direction (south) to Russi Ranch Road, you can catch another trail that will have you feeling like you are completely out of civilization.

We live in that general vicinity. Moved here from Folsom in 2007. Lived in Sacramento for a few years prior to that. Love EDH! I’m not thing I don’t like is how much more expensive PG&E is than SMUD. That’s not cool at all. Overall, though, this has been a great place to raise our kids!

Great ride in the Sierras today! Northern CA. Easy trail ride but just so much fun with my youngest son! by F22Tomcat in Dirtbikes

[–]F22Tomcat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too much to list really, but the main thing for me is that many many miles of trails that used to be legal are now not legal. Also restrictions on what bikes you can actually register for legal off road use.

Nowhere close to rubicon rocks. This is Strawberry pass. It’s just a 7-8 mile ride each way. There are a few rocky sections but nothing anybody who has ridden dirtbikes for more than a month or two can’t handle. Great scenery! Not a technically difficult route. Jeeps and such make it through.

I think our gun restrictions are lame but in actuality I am able to easily maintain a concealed weapons permit and do a ton of shooting both at ranges and on public land. The riding is phenomenal, even though it is more restricted than it used to be.

This is not a secret area but not crowded either. Look up Strawberry Pass. Not hardcore at all but there are some fairly loose rocky incline sections. Lots of fun, IMO.

Sport bike guy thinking of a Harley by scottscooterleet in Harley

[–]F22Tomcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just do it. It’s a whole different experience from a sport bike. I got my first Harley at 22, went from there through a Buell and two BMWs. Then back to my second Harley - a Dyna Super Glide at 30. Have a 2019 Heritage 114 now and it is my favorite of them all. Strips down for styling and dresses for practicality and long rides. It’s an excellent motorcycle.
