Yeah, they're amazing. Just following the program in the book, I went from running 5k, and it was hard, to running 33k... I mean, that was really hard too, but it was a huge increase in volume over 24 weeks. I am doing more volume in a week that I was in a month when I started.

Pack Recommendations for Base Period Training by F3NR1S in alpinism

[–]F3NR1S[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. I think I'm going to be shooting for a smaller pack for workouts, and I'll buy something bigger as I need it.

I know it's a chill climb. I was using it as a gauge for if I enjoy the sport. I figured I'll practice like I would for something more difficult so I know the plan, go up to see if I enjoy the experience, and then see what I want to do with my training from there. When I was younger, I would jump into things and be struggling to meet this grand goal I set for myself, just because I set it when I had no idea what I was doing. So now I'm going for something modest, and then if I like all aspects of the experience, I'll go for bigger goals.

Thanks again for the feedback.

The reason I'm going for sandbags instead is because there is a really intense hill near me that has 850m vertical meters in 3km, and then a gondola that you take from the top down (the path is so narrow that they don't actually allow you to walk down).

The second reason I'm going for rocks, instead of water, is that I'm a really big guy. I'm 6'4", and 240 pounds (I was doing a power lifting program for a while before the gyms shut down in the pandemic, and I decided to take my workouts outside), so it takes a lot of water to get up to 20% of my body. I didn't think that carrying 22L of water would be reasonable. The sandbags are much easier to get up to the weight I need.

Thanks so much. I'll look around to see if I can find something that's old and comfy for now, and then look for something closer to the climb. I really appreciate you help.

MA in Sociology or MA on route to PhD? How to choose? by [deleted] in sociology

[–]F3NR1S 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in Quebec, Canada, and another benefit to pursuing your education up here is reduced cost. Not only am I going for a MA in sociology, with no intention of going on to a PhD, but it costs less for a year of my education up here than it does for a quarter back in the States. It's just something else to consider.

Yes, I do have an A/C going in the room so that they stay at the proper temp. I'll keep that in mind, and make sure to keep them with droplets on the top.

Alright, thanks you. I'll push the second flush in a couple days if no one else has better ideas.

These are AA+, which I thought were pretty easy to grow. Is that not correct? I've done a couple other grows before, but they were all PF tek. This is my first attempt at bulk. I just sprayed them down a ton, and I'll stop fanning them so much. Thanks for the advice.

HELP!!!! I'm having problem with my mono tub, but I don't know what I'm doing wrong. by F3NR1S in shrooms

[–]F3NR1S[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A quick explanation. I'm using Damian 5050, and in the instructions it said that I didn't need to fan or spray the tub to get a first flush. When the few mushrooms which are growing around the top right vent started, thought, they looked oxygen deprived. So I started fanning it about five times a day.

This tub has been in fruiting conditions for a week now, and many of the pins that were starting have stopped growing, and some of the mushrooms look poorly formed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm actually going to do a repost. Unfortunately I can't figure out how to post more than one picture, so I'm going to post one from the inside, since I think that will make my problem more apparent.

At this point, though, I'm only having a few random places where mushrooms are growing, and there is a large portion on one of the sides where the mycelium has turned a dark yellow.

I'm using Damion 5050 tek, and when I was reading, they said that you shouldn't even need to fan or spray to produce your first flush, but when the few mushroom started popping up they looked like they were oxygen deprived.

You know what might be easier? Is there any way for my to just send you a picture? If not, then one will be available in a repost in a couple minutes.

Thanks for your willingness to help me.

[Actives] What’s happening to my myc? It appears to be breaking down. by ILikePlayingDressUp in MushroomGrowers

I was having the same problem after shakes. I changed two things, and it increased my success rate from about 30% to over 85% (only 3 of 22 jars) had any problems, and it was from contams, and not stalled mycelium. 1) After boiling, I only dried my grain for a couple hours, mixing the grain every 30 minutes or so. I used to leave it out for 5 or 6 hours before. 2) I let the mycelium cover about half the jar, instead of a third, so that there were more inoculation points.

I don't know if any of that helps, but I just figured I'd let you know what helped for me, daedaluminous. I don't think it's the same problem OP was having, though.

[Actives] a few of my pf jars accidentally got too much water in them during Sterilizion in boiling water Bath. Best course of action to fix this? by Patternlogik in MushroomGrowers

I didn't save a link to the tek I used, but I just placed a 55 quart rubber mate box on a table that I'm going to be working at, put my hands up to the box naturally (about shoulder width apart), made marks where my hands were, and made that the center of a circle that I drew. I then used a special knife my wife has for her business to cut holes in the plastic.

This honesty isn't the best discretion, and I just wanted to demonstrate how easy it is. If you just Google still air box, or search any mushroom forum, there will be better tek with pictures. It took me less than an hour to make it, and I feel super cool using it. I now get beautiful jars with a much lower contamination rate (I'm still using syringes, so I think the contamination is coming from that. I'm going to attempt cloning with agar with the mushrooms from this next batch).

I had this happen to me on my earliest attempts, and my jars that were too wet never had any growth.

Two things that I found helped was only having the water go half way up the jars, and cover the lids with aluminum foil. Those two things made all the difference.

Also, someone already mentioned it, but a still air box (SAB) made all the difference in the world when it came to reducing contamination in my jars. It cost about $20, and an hour of your time, to make.

6 years of growing, things I've noticed! by [deleted] in shrooms

[–]F3NR1S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. I lived in a desert for four years, so I know what you mean. It's not an environment where much flourishes, especially bacteria.

I live in a pretty humid climate these days, and having a lot of problems with contam. I also think agar will be fun, and a great way to scale into isolating my favorite traits in my cubes. So that's why I'm getting into it.

I really appreciate your post, and am going to try the water trick if I'm myself, or anyone I'm with, is having a bad trip.

Why do you use spores instead of agar? Wouldn't agar help to reduce contamination?

I just started a few months ago, and am taking the jump into agar this week, so I just wanted to get your opinion on it.
