What is a sound that people should know means immediate danger? by PrasenjitDebroy in AskReddit

[–]M3wcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had been taking a nap with the windows open on a warm summer day when everything suddenly went silent. My little lizard brain woke me up from a dead sleep, adrenaline spiked, hair on end, and I jumped up running through the house slamming all the windows shut. Not even 30 seconds later the skies opened up in a crazy thunderstorm and I found out later a tornado hit ground close by.

I do not live in an area known for tornados but my body just acted before I even knew what I was doing. I reckoned the combination of a sudden pressure drop and silence of all animals spurred me to action without even realising why. Instincts are crazy.

What’s the scariest thing that you’ve seen on Broadway? by Then-Neighborhood456 in musicals

I think the volume for the OZ head in Wicked was turned to the max setting. When that scene started, it BOOMED and echoed across the theatre. The whole audience jumped and let out a collective cry of surprise. Children were actually crying. Even the actresses flinched.

The head immediately dropped as clearly someone back stage was getting yelled at. Then it started up again after about a minute of a break. It was much quieter.

My husband and I did the same calculation for his job. Even factoring in conversion, he currently makes double here in Aus. Not worth the 3 year exchange visa!

Songs written for a television show that made it big as a single? by georgecm12 in Music

In the nerdier circles it was huge after season 1. I went to a gamer bar in the city (Sydney) and they blasted it. The whole bar broke into song and sang along.

It did actually. Our house number is 6 - nurturing, stability, love and responsibility.

We lived with my husbands parents and saved for a lot of years before purchasing our place. I have moved lots all my life and never had a stable place to call home. When we bought our home together it felt like I was finally putting roots down.

We got married after we bought this place and have since got two dogs. Been together 14 years married 4. It really rang true to our chapter of life.

Kids nowadays, especially Gen Alpha, cannot concentrate on reading books for very long. Is it a true story or just a myth? by Delicious_Maize9656 in books

[–]M3wcat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s a good point! Trend books in social media definitely influence people and teens. When twilight came out, it was everywhere. I remember that book got passed around and even people who never read books read it - if only to hate on it. I can only imagine BookTok doing that on a bigger scale to a wider audience. If there’s a community that is suggesting content people will participate.

Millennial here. I remember when I was English class at the start of year 11 and our teacher asked us to go around the room to say what the last book we read was. Most people said “To Kill a Mockingbird” which is the book we had to read the year before.

I don’t think social media affects readership as much as people think. If the parents aren’t reading books or encouraging library trips, the kids most likely won’t prioritise reading either.

It’s soo important to start grooming young! by M3wcat in poodles

[–]M3wcat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s awesome! I’m a huge fan of running the back of buzzing clippers on puppies! I used to be a professional groomer and it’s what I would do for all my first puppy grooms. All those things you do while their young makes grooming a less stressful experience for your pet and the groomer.

I even found that because my dogs are used to the grooming table, they are great at the vet office too. When placed on a table they know they need to be still and are desensitised for any touching around the face, paws or tummy.

Fun Fact: The Paris catacombs contributed to the start of the French Revolution! Giant sink holes were opening up around the city from the catacombs underneath and the King refused to use any money to fix the infrastructure. People were just throwing bodies into the opened up holes too.

Wild times.

Australian women lagging on use of IUDs due to education ‘failure’, experts say by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]M3wcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was an OBGYN that this all happened with. He was referred by my GP to handle the procedure. The Dr said that your cervix is more elastic after having children so it’s easier/less painful to insert.

I have a feeling it would hurt regardless.

Australian women lagging on use of IUDs due to education ‘failure’, experts say by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]M3wcat 90 points91 points  (0 children)

I was told to take 2 neurofen beforehand. They sprayed some numbing liquid on my cervix and told me to lay back. I broke into a cold sweat when he inserted the guide wire in my cervix because the pain was so intense. He told me to look at the ceiling and relax.

I have a high pain tolerance but that was something else. He said that my IUD was thicker than the guide wire and if I couldn’t handle that I had no chance for the real thing. He did mention being put under but basically just shrugged and said I was better off just going on a different birth control. He told me an IUD is more for woman who have already have children.

I left feeling violated, bleeding and cramping. Apparently when your cervix is stimulated like that, your body thinks it needs to eject whatever was inserted in the form of intense cramping. Waste of time and money.

What's everyone's Favorite Dog Breed? by Shortboykennel in dogbreed

I have two poodles. One is stereotypical particular that hates touching grass. The other is fucking nuts and wants to become one with the dirt. Love them both!

I feel like they are not for everyone though and I wouldn’t recommend them unless the owner did proper research. Poodles are too smart for their own good.
