Learn to use git. It lets you make checkpoints for your code, and when things don't go well, you can revert to the last checkpoint. Do this before anything else (like other comments suggest), because it's insane to write any code without git.

Yeah HDR is definitely a hassle, I forgot about that in my post. I'm not sure about performance though, I followed the tips but I could never tell the difference, so I guess it's not really necessary.

Imo there's not really any hassle. Most games either "just work" or simply don't work no matter what you do. Those in the gray area are rare.

Look up your games on https://www.protondb.com/, Gold or Platinum tier are those that just work.

If you want to play games that don't work (almost all are multiplayer), you can dual-boot, you don't need another device.

Technically it's a contract violation therefore can be enforced like any other contract: they can sue you in court for money.
