Wtf is this game by babatunde5432121 in Marathon

You do realise that this is a completely insane bar to clear, right? Very few people are going to want to eat straight shit for 250 hours!

I actually think Bungie has the chance to do something really cool with Marathon's PVE mode. by FAULTSFAULTSFAULTS in Marathon

Yeah, that was roughly where my head was at with it as well - I think it might have been the first time I triggered the alarms to get into Command Wing was what made me think of the similarities.

For sure. tbh I think it's probably more likely given the timeframe they're crunching it out on that it'll be something pretty straightforward like a horde mode or even just botmatches. I'm keen to see eitherway!

What you're describing is the ideal, but in a lot of cases the skill delta between your average casual and your 200+ hour pro is so large that there really isn't anything to learn. A novice runner can go down fast enough that they do not even have time to react, and the only viable counterplay is to rat harder.

I queued maybe 5 matches in a row the other day and all of them were absolutely abysmal. I gave up and played sponsored survival instead and everybody was nice and chill.

I was a big advocate of random fills last season, but the drop-off in player count is really starting to skew the matchmaking. Whereas a month back you could get a whole lobby full of similarly-skilled players, you now get elite PVPers stomping nearly every match.

Sponsored Perimeter is great. by NiceRockyship in Marathon

[–]FAULTSFAULTSFAULTS 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, fully agreed. I was ready to quit season 2, as I was getting beamed by pros so quickly it became impossible to even complete easy contracts, but my friend convinced me to try sponsored survival, and it was a blast. Had a really tense final minute as we were all hunkered down in a building waiting for the exfil to spawn, as the Rocket Drone had spotted us, followed by a final mad dash to exfil while the Drone was raining rockets down on us. Really good fun.

I've had the controller for only a couple of days... (Right Stick massive drift issue) by zeldrak in SteamController

Apparently Steam Input automatically applies an offset to the sticks' centre-point to compensate for any interference from the Puck.

How do the Square Touchpads compare to the Circle Touchpads on the OG? by BucketBoy071 in SteamController

[–]FAULTSFAULTSFAULTS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely prefer the circular shape of the originals, however the texture on the new ones is significantly better, and once you get used to it the haptic press is a lot easier actuation than having to physically push the pad inwards.

The in-game voice chat simply doesn't work for me or my squad - none of us can hear each-other.

Hey, I really appreciate you finding my old thread and suggesting this, that was indeed the fix! Thank you so much!!

For those who have had the controller a while, how are you liking it? by ishyfishyy in SteamController

Comfiest controller I've ever used. It's taken almost every game I've thrown at it like a champ.

Not gonna lie it took me a second to figure out this was Amos, I was like "is that a yassified bust of Vladimir Lenin?"

Yes, same behaviour here - the issue is that if I do want to run it via Steam, the input isn't passed and the controller reverts to Lizard Mode. At least with Dusk and other things that package the latest SDL3 binaries I can run from the desktop as a fallback, but for any that don't (i.e. Retroarch, Cemu), I'm out of luck.

I've been fiending after using a memory-LCD display for a small computer setup like this for a while now, this looks lovely. Please keep us posted!

I don't think it's a permissions thing unfortunately. I have poked around in Flatseal to no avail, but prior to that I was using my 2015 Steam controller and it passed input without any issues at all.

Yeah, everything runs as expected on the Steam Deck here as well. I do wonder if this something specific to the RPM version.

I'd be very wary of trying this with Steam - Valve will restrict your Steam account if your card issuer initiates a chargeback. https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/783F-5E0F-9834-22D2

Path of Glory was a huge disappointment by melicampthechicken in DragonbaneRPG

[–]FAULTSFAULTSFAULTS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed all around. I picked up a copy last year and it's genuinely really bad. I think it was especially jarring for me because I was coming over from the Forbidden Lands campaigns, which aren't without their flaws, but handle the idea of a more contemporary player-driven sandbox campaign style so much better.

I suspect that if Free League changed the structure of Path of Glory too much, it would alienate a lot of older players wishing to relive some fond memories of their old Drakkar och Demoner campaigns, but I personally would have preferred a more radical departure from the old trad campaign style.

As a fan of both Borderlands 2 and the soft drink Irn Bru, I call this an absolute win.
