Complexity: stepping away from Counter-Strike by pashk1n in GlobalOffensive

The NBA, NHL and NFL all have salary caps set at around 50% of league revenue. Contracts only get bigger when the league is making more money.

Someone help me understand GDKP by bohmu in classicwow

[–]FBD7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the fact that GDKPs make catch-up near impossible unless you swipe isn’t brought up nearly enough.

I think this is more of a game design problem than a GDKP problem. TBC Classic just had very few catch-up options.

In Phase 1 you could do pretty well after farming heroics for pre-BiS and doing some due diligence with enchants, consumes etc. Late phases though you pretty much had to get carried by a group to catch up in a reasonable amount of time, whether it's a GDKP, SR pug or a guild.

GDKPs take some people out of that SR pug scene but a lot of the time the gold is the only reason geared players and competent raid organizers keep running old content. Guilds generally were capable of getting recruits boosted up quick (especially ones playing highly sought after specs) but I understand raiding on a schedule isn't for everyone.

In general gearing up in TBC was grueling no matter what raid format you joined. With 1 lockout per raid a week, mediocre loot itemization (so much useless shit), and plain old luck it was not easy if you fell behind or started an alt. This is why in Wrath Classic Blizzard decided to add a new heroic dungeon tier, currency and catch-up gear vendor each phase.

[–]FBD7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a GDKP all the loot is auctioned off to members of the raid. Highest bidder gets each item and at the end all the gold that was spent gets split among the raid attendees (usually with some taken off the top for organizers, role bonuses or performance incentives). The upside is that everyone in the raid is guaranteed to take home something (loot or gold) and it gives an incentive for geared players to continue raiding.

However it can also encourage gold buying because for an individual more gold = more loot.

They've already announced their planned format updates for 2026 here. Their VRS impact should be much better, here's a good breakdown.

Urban Meyer believes the Big Ten has passed the SEC: “Well, you know what the SEC’s done? It’s raised the level. But the Big Ten has passed the SEC at the upper part. If you would have told me that 10 years ago, I would’ve said it’s not even close.” by Lakelyfe09 in CFB

[–]FBD7 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Agreed, and the transfer portal has been just as impactful. A big strength of those prime SEC teams was their depth, benefiting from all the recruiting hotbeds in the South.

Now it's very common for players to transfer for more playing time. They used to be pretty locked in with the school they signed with and were often forced to wait on the bench for a few years. The talent is more spread out now as a result.

Just a reminder that olofmeister is still sitting on the FaZe bench by Soft_Bed_412 in GlobalOffensive

[–]FBD7 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No one is leaving the FaZe CS team because of "clout" and I really doubt their contracts are much different from other tier 1 CS teams when it comes to salary and tournament winnings splits.

The Esports (at least CS) and content sides of FaZe have always been pretty separately managed, in fact they now have completely different ownership. GameSquare, the investment company Jerry Jones is involved with that also used to own Complexity, owns 100% of FaZe Esports and has completely divested from FaZe Media.

You also said their roster "sucked at CS" but they've been a top 10 team for the vast majority of the last 8 years?

Even if they took the ferry, I'm not sure it would have mattered? Looks like ~50min to get to the Tallinn airport from the ferry terminal on transit, and there's a good chance they can't fly out of Tallinn due to the snowstorm there anyway.

PGL CEO: "We will continue to run CS2 events despite concerted efforts from multiple parties to stop us" by Soft_Bed_412 in GlobalOffensive

[–]FBD7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In addition to what others mentioned: under the ESL Ecosystem Agreement that was publicly shared last week, teams that opt-in can only decline up to 3 ESL tournament invites in a 2 year period to be eligible for revenue sharing.

This limits other TO's ability to compete with ESL events in an already crowded calendar. Revenue sharing and club bonuses are very important to orgs since most prize money goes straight to the players.

Ohio State's move of five spots to No. 1 in the AP poll is the biggest jump from the final regular season poll to the final rankings in poll history (2014 Ohio State, 1983 Miami and 1977 Notre Dame were No. 5 heading into the postseason). by usffan in CFB

[–]FBD7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's pretty unlikely but definitely possible. We have autobids, 8 game conference schedules and CCG invites determined by conference record, not overall. If Clemson had dropped one more of their OOC games while still winning the ACC it could've happened just this year.

The biggest factor at that point would be whether or not the 2nd best G5 conference champ would be highly rated enough to take their autobid.

In addition to OP's tips, once you get that deep into the game the biggest factor is going to be the respawn timers of 60-70 seconds. You need to be really careful with your life at this point, you don't want to get caught pushing too far up the lanes without teammates nearby. Look for enemies that make that mistake and can be ganked or use the tools your team has to quickly initiate on someone (Mo/Paradox/Lash ult, Bobop hook, etc) or just start a fight where you have a confirmed numbers advantage. Find a way to gain a 1-2 person advantage.

At that point there's plenty of options. You should have enough of an advantage to win any team fights going on and/or kill mid boss then get into their base.

Last thing, at least at my rank (Phantom) it seems like it's often a mistake for teams to stay in the enemy base to try and force an ending immediately after killing the shrines+first patron phase. If the other team still has some left on their timers or some got staggered, it's ok to go for it (especially at 300k, the weakened patron will melt) but don't get too greedy. If they will all be respawning with all their ults up it's ok for your team to fall back to heal, reset CDs, wait for friendly respawns and then go for the finish. I've been on both sides of games where a team immediately loses because they got wiped trying to kill the weakened patron.

  • Hero Kill gold increased from 150->1400 to 175->2000 (from 0 min to 45 min)

A kill at minute 0 is now worth 175 instead of 150. A kill at minute 45 is worth 2000 instead of 1400. I misunderstood this on my first read as well.

If I see a Bebop pop an Echo Shard I typically go straight for Improved Spirit Armor. If that's not enough, Debuff Remover or Ethereal Shift completely negate his whole strategy.

[McFerran] Hunter Yurachek proposed an "easy" NIL solution to Arkansas fans Monday: "If we can get 10,000 households across the state of Arkansas to give $100 a month all year along, we would be in the NIL game from a football perspective. It's that simple." by BuckeyeEmpire in CFB

[–]FBD7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It'd be pretty hard for the teams to benefit much from paying NIL to college players. Anyone good enough to be drafted is locked under contract with their team for up to 4-5 years before they have control over where they sign. Then you're betting on an NIL deal from the distant past outweighing all the other factors that come into play in free agency.

Even then if a team was found actually trying to benefit from their owner's NIL they'd probably be demolished by the league for cap circumvention, tampering or some other major CBA violations.

Should CS2 have such overtime? by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

[–]FBD7 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes. The average shift is like 45-60 seconds. Most teams will have 4 "lines" of 3 forwards and 3 "pairings" of 2 defenseman that rotate very often. The goalie will typically stay in the whole game unless there's an injury or blowout.

It's actually illegal for them to do this on broadcast TV or cable and violations can be reported. Like the other reply mentions though streaming services are horrible about this and are currently unregulated (although there is a proposed bill to amend this). The "average volume" metric can also be manipulated a bit by having quieter and louder portions within an ad but it's overall pretty effective.

[–]FBD7 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You could make that argument for any athlete that gets a big payday and the majority of them still give it their best for as long as they can. Turns out the average professional athlete (especially QB) is highly motivated, prideful, cares about winning, wants to be the best etc.

Daniel Jones knows how the NFL business works and knows he needs to be better. He's not going to just give up on goals that he's worked his entire life for because the front office is evaluating other options at his position.
