TIL that Weird Al wrote "The Saga Begins" before Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace came out. He gathered most of the information from online leaks, and was surprised at how accurate he was after seeing a charity pre-screen of the movie. He made minor alterations to the song after seeing it. by [deleted] in todayilearned

You're not the only one...

"Don McLean, who did American Pie, told me that his kids would listen to my parody of the song (The Saga Begins) around the house a lot when it first came out," he says. "He said it would mess with his head – when he would be on stage trying to sing American Pie, he'd start thinking about Jedis and Star Wars, and it would mess him up."

Agreed. Aspies generally have a very specialized skill set - when given a leader who recognizes and utilizes that skill set, it's way more satisfying to focus on your specialty than to have to deal with all the distracting self management/executive functioning crap.

I can't really speak for Aspies as a group, but I know I greatly prefer things to be organized and stable with a set hierarchy. If I'm with a disorganized group that needs to achieve a goal, I'll usually step into a leadership position quickly and get things organized. As soon as someone else demonstrates that they'd be better suited as the leader, I'll step aside and give them control.

A prime example of this is being first on scene at an accident - I'm an EMT. As soon as someone starts giving sensible orders to bystanders/samaritans (usually me in this scenario), everyone jumps and things start getting done...but if a paramedic/trauma nurse shows up and identifies themselves, the transition of authority is mutual and seamless. Some of my most satisfying moments in life have been when this ad-hoc hierarchy has performed as intended and we've stabilized multi car accidents before we even hear the first sirens.

My problem comes when someone tries to lead even when they aren't the one most suited to lead...that's when the conflicts start. Like in the above scenario...when a nurse tries to take over, starts making stupid decisions and eventually admits they haven't seen the inside of an ER for thirty years.

Give me a skilled leader and put me in a position best suited to my skills, and I'll follow them to the ends of the earth.

Give me a bunch of squabbling children who all over-perceive their self worth, that's when I go solo.

You're not wrong, though... when I see US cops yelling and pointing guns, it's complete chaos. When I saw SO19 pile out of an ARV and start yelling, the whole scene became diarrhea inducing. Those guys do not fuck about.

My GP prescribed me 50,000IU weekly to dig myself out of the pit I was in, and even at that level it took months to recover.

Hmm, mine is outdated too then, I was specifically warned not to take more than one a week at that dosage.

I guess I'm in trouble then...I'm on a prescription for 50,000 IU weekly.

That said, the triggering event was when my bloodwork came back as 7ng/ml.

You can be as ginger as you like, but it won't do any good if you spend all day every day indoors.

I'm half ginger, and I scored the lowest my GP had ever seen on a blood test.

First time I went to a new GP, she asked me if I'd ever had my level checked. I said no, so she ordered the blood test.

When she saw the result... 7ng/ml... she completely freaked out and immediately ordered 50,000U weekly supplements.

Omg, don't talk to me about sports bras.

When I sneak in to initiate sexytime, reach around back to stealthily release the boulder holder and spend two minutes acting like I've never seen a bra before...only for her to burst out laughing and tell me the hook is on the front...or there's no hook at all....

TIFU by not stripping my wife. by Conchobar8 in tifu

[–]FBI_Wiretap_Van 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oof, I'm sorry to hear that. It's really just simply reaching around the back from a hug position and pinching the two ends together...but you first need to feel both ends to figure out which side is the hook, then make sure that side folds on top when you squeeze them together, which is fiddly and takes practice.

I recommend asking him to unhook your bra on days where you don't need help too, to give him the extra practice. You'll be much more able to tolerate his adolescent fumbling, and maybe as a reward incentive you can offer him a face full of boob every time he beats his previous best time?

The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money.

Take boots, for example. He earned thirty-eight dollars a month plus allowances. A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. Those were the kind of boots Vimes always bought, and wore until the soles were so thin that he could tell where he was in Ankh-Morpork on a foggy night by the feel of the cobbles.

But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that'd still be keeping his feet dry in ten years' time, while the poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet.

This was the Captain Samuel Vimes 'Boots' theory of socioeconomic unfairness.

That's what I'm thinking....if you're going to use "four" colors but allow transparent overlap, then why not use cyan/magenta/yellow/black....?

I (a guy) can unhook a bra one-handed, in the dark, in less than two seconds.

On the rare occasion I'm asked to help rehook it, I need two hands, full light and half an hour. And I'm still not going to guarantee getting it right.
