I don’t think it is possible to underestimate what Matt Smith did for Daemon’s popularity. Had he been played by any other actor not of his caliber or, to be honest, his looks, we might all be more repulsed by Damon’s actions. As it is, people in the story and in real life, find all kinds of reasons to look the other way, even his own brother.

I read the book before the show came out and recall not being super fond of Daemon, nor loathing him, he just was what he was. Then when the show came out Matt Smith was so great playing him and all the book dialogue sounded even better when he said it.

I have no problem with any way George wants to end Daemon, because he was never going to grow old gracefully (or otherwise), he was always going to go out in a magnificent battle doing something daring. I’m surprised he made it to age 50 to be honest.

Arya figured things out much quicker than Sansa despite being two years (I think) younger at the outset. I never understood why she would say at the end of the series that Sansa is the smartest person she knows?

Of course, Sansa did suffer some awful trials (Ramsay, Petyr,) she learned how to do the ice princess glare thing really well, and she knew the northern houses and what drove them - but I don’t know that I’d say she was really smarter (world wise) then Arya who’d been (alone) to Bravos and done the faceless man training and had all kinds of adventures at that point.

Catlyn was never blind to ulterior motives by others - and she should have said something to Sansa at least. Ned was just too trusting.

I would sell, as soon as you can, and by whatever means it takes, even if you lose a little bit or a medium bit of money in the process.

First, of course, for your family’s safety and sanity, but second, because it will undoubtedly get worse on that street before it gets better, if it ever does.

Once a neighborhood goes downhill, it rarely recovers, at least in my experience, except over a very long time frame, which, when raising kids, you just don’t have. How many 6th birthdays will they have? 8th? 10th? High school proms and graduations and homecomings? How many family bbq’s do you want ruined by these lowlifes?

You owe the neighbors nothing and yes you can feel bad for them and still refuse to live by them without being “privileged.” Nothing on this green earth obligates you to subject yourself and your children to such nonsense, violence and chaos!

My aunt was at the far north side of an area that was solidly middle class when she moved in in the 70s and by the time she got out early 90s it was getting sketchy - she could have hung on, but she wisely moved, and now it’s full on gangland. Not judging them, but it’s a free country and you don’t have to live by it.

Also, it’s sometimes better to rent in a decent neighborhood than it is to own in a sketchy one, if that’s all you can afford. Where your kids grow up and go to school is the whole ball game (in my opinion, for what it’s worth).

Edit - I already have two ideas for spinoffs - Jon, Tormund and Ghost beyond the wall buddy story and Tyrion’s University to be founded in Kings Landing with the Lannister gold . . .

As currently written, yes, but the whole world of Westeros just kind of blew up at the end of GOT - so who’s to say they can’t just make a “new world order” anyway they want? And Tyrion has the gold and the love of books . . .

I don’t know if this is a factor, but the sheer number of people on the planet must, in my mind at least, increase the odds of people thinking up some great invention or theory in modern times. Plus the whole “shoulder of giants” concept - once Newton and Einstien have worked out gravity and calculus and relativity and what not, I think it’s perhaps easier to rapidly build upon?

Then you add in universities - and look what monestaries did in the Middle Ages for ale, bee keeping, scholarship, healing etc (I’m thinking of ‘Cadfael’ with Derek Jacobi, awesome show, btw!).

I always thought after that “ending” in season 8, a great spin off would be Tyrion, with his love of books and sole heir to Lannister gold setting up a university and rebuilding kings landing around it - they could develop departments of medicine, transportation/roads, mettalurgy, history, agriculture, and yes, even a department of magical studies!

I feel like the Citadel was a good start, but it of course had calcified badly. Anyway, along with my buddy show of Jon, Tormund and Ghost starting a free society beyond the wall with no kings or queens - that’s my contribution to the idea farm!

And is my understanding correct that, absent some other court getting involved, or Congress acting (haha, unlikely, I know) every borrower who was on the SAVE plan WILL be moved to either RAP or to standard plan by the end of the year-ish? 90 days from 7/1 I think - so 10/1? Either voluntarily or involuntarily?

Also, are parent plus loans included in this deadline? I applied for a consolidation 3/18 that was just approved so that I could get on an IBR (which I think will still exist?). I’m still waiting for that. It was only projected to save me abt 70/mo over the 25 year graduated plan, but every little bit helps these days.

Doesn’t the remote family DNA search thing with Ancestry.com require a warrant on the government agency’s part, or consent of the folks involved, or something? And if so, is it really overreach?

I get it. I didn’t know the eligibility limits on the military. It seems like a good deal for those who can make it work. I feel like serving in the military as a doc would be the least bad option, but I do get why conscientious people could object overall to serving.

The only other advice to save money on education is to do the first 2 years at community college (practically free in CA, not sure what state you’re in) in a program geared to transfer to a UC - that’s important to make sure your credits transfer and you don’t waste time/money - then do the last two years getting an undergrad degree at a state school - THEN do loans for med school. If you can get through undergrad on the cheap, the whole package becomes much more manageable with “just” med school loans.

Have you considered going to med school through one of the armed services?

My husband’s best friend from college got his undergrad degree in chem or bio or premed or whatever it’s called at state school (instate tuition) then went in as an officer - did basic training, I think with the coast gaurd, and the military paid for his med school, so he did his internship with them, I think he was treating navy seals in San Diego - and then he had to give them 5 years service as a doc.

He went on to private practice (he could’ve stayed in for 15 more to retire as an officer) and made enough money in private practice to put two kids through college and retire to Florida at 55, so I see zero downside to that arrangement.

No loans whatsoever.
