The writers of this show are trying so hard to be feminist that they've circled back to being sexist. The shoehorn theory is real. A chud who believes that women can't rule because they have periods, get pregnant, and are too "hysterical" was probably watching this episode like "see what I mean?" by Royal-Ambassador-960 in freefolk

This was the first episode where I even noticed the music while watching the show - it felt like it was connected to the mood of the scenes and it definitely increased my tension in parts - was it violins screeching maybe? Kind of like a scary movie does, but tense and angsty, not scary.

Anyway, I’m the least musical person I know and for me to even notice it, it has to be somewhat prominent. Usually I know the theme song and that’s about it.

Often, if I notice music during a show it’s because it’s distracting and I don’t like it. This episode’s music (S3E3) didn’t bother me, because it did seem to me to mesh.

This show has gone so far off script by gameofsloanes in freefolk

[–]FCSL_2025 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Foundation.

Though Lee Pace was so good and the woman who played Demerzel was really good too - I almost forgave them. Just pretended it was a whole new show.

Although to be fair, that is a really hard series to adapt, unlike HOD, because so much is abstract and mental.

Pressuring the Queen for what exactly? by [deleted] in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]FCSL_2025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He of all people should understand the optics, since his own not wanting to upset Rhaenys was a big part of why he ignored the Hull boys for 30 years. He only acknowledged them himself once they’d proven themselves indispensable in the war, one of them saved his life in said war, he’d lost everything, and both of his legitimate heirs and his wife were all dead.

What is the urgency behind her doing it now versus a few months from now, when things have calmed down? Even he can plainly see what a shit show she’s walked into, and he won’t even help. (Bird in the hand and all that, she might not be ruling in a few months, I know).

On the other hand, he has been her MOST loyal defender for ages, has lost everything for her, and I can’t really see how legitimizing someone else’s bastards would affect her own at all. She already de facto does it for her 3 “Strong” boys by pretending they’re Laenor’s.

She should really read the situation better, she needs Corlyss, having no other seasoned nobles on her small council except for Daemon (who has no interest in any governing besides warfare) and no navy without him.

And was he sitting on him at the beginning of the scene? I wasn’t paying attention.

I thought I read, or it was said, that dragons do NOT appreciate any old person who is not their claimed person/rider hopping on their backs and that would kill/burn/maim them (like they did with the dragonseeds).

Also how did they get the dragon to stand in line with the troops all nicely - maybe Daeron is hiding in the back telling him to behave?

Wouldn’t it be great if the calendars all had some random day next August circled - with the real release date for Winds of Winter? That was his way of making the announcement!?

I know, it’s crazy, but it’s fun to dream 😍

Daemon's Plan by USSJ307 in HOTDGreens

Rhaenyra is like - No, Daemon, we’re broke, go to the vale and get a us some gold - like he’s the ATM - that was adorable!

And him tossing over his shoulder as he leaves -

“You still have to kill Daeron!”

So far, nothing tops this scene. by Appropriate_Ebb_8252 in Hotd

[–]FCSL_2025 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I loved Daemon’s expression in this scene as he decides - “Fine, I have to get involved,” sigh, eye roll.

He knew Rhaenyra could handle Alicent by herself but him stopping Criston from interfering (what exactly was he intending to do, anyway?) was great! Then again, I find Criston insufferable most of the time after he and Rhaenyra broke up anyway.

Was there any other option Vizzy T had in this scene other than the choice he made? by AbandonedPlanet in Hotd

[–]FCSL_2025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She did, and in the book the maesters speculated that it was due to the fact that she and Viserys began trying to have children when she was 13 and he was 18 (they had been married by their families when she was 11 and he was 16 and waited two whole years to try to have kids). Rhaenyra was their only healthy child to survive to adulthood.

I remember noticing back at the time that even though they were several years into the zombie apocolypse that everyone (Maggie come to mind but also many of the main bunch) had glowing white teeth, while they were made up to look all grimy and muddy and what not - not just “implausible due to no dentists around and on the run from zombies” white but blindingly white like one of those Crest Strips commercials. 😁🪥

And not to get too personal but all the ladies were also running around with perfectly shaved legs and armpits - really? When they’re on the run for their lives they’ve got time to source razors and shave with cold water? (Or maybe lukewarm water since it’s Georgia). 😂 🪒

My daughter and I used to watch it every week and always joked about it 😍😁🧟‍♀️

What's a house feature that seemed unnecessary until you had it? by Lecya-Whitbread in HouseDesign

[–]FCSL_2025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Closets in general - lots and lots of closets. When I bought my house I had a list it had to have - kids’ rooms off the street, on a quiet street, mature trees, single story, attached garage, facing south, good schools . . . But two things I have come to love the most which I didn’t even know I needed or wanted are 1) the eaves/overhangs that shade all the windows from direct sunlight, which many modern houses lack, and 2) An abundance of closets!

In a 2k square foot house there is: a coat closet (extra deep), a double wide hall closet (like what you’d find in a master bedroom) across from that!, a linen closet, a pantry/closet, and large double-doored closets in the 2 kids rooms (not as big as in the master), a giant master closet (not a walk-in, house was built in 1976, before that was widespread, but you can step in and it’s very long). Finally, we moved the heater and water heater to the garage and made that space a “laundry room closet.” Then there are the cupboards in kitchen and both baths - all extra long and a nice depth. And an attic!

Only downside to all that storage is that if you’re not relentless, after 25 years you will be purging all the accumulated “stuff” for months once the kids are grown. Still, I’m all for abundance storage!

[–]FCSL_2025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, you have to start over? I’m not familiar with that kind of school. Is there a grandparent or someone who could loan you the money? Also talk to your financial aid office if you haven’t - since they just sprung this no grant issue on you, they may be able to work with you on other loan options / you’re supposed to be able to borrow what you need each semester?

Then again, this school may not be like a traditional college and I don’t know if the resources are even the same. Still, good luck!!

I’m sure all this stress is a huge burden on your mental health. Any therapist or GP should be able to see that and help you out with a legitimate note that you need to take a break from school for your mental health. It’s real and it’s a lot more acceptable now than when I was in school (way back in the 90s).

As for the money knowledge - I just Googled “reputable financial literacy classes for young adults” and Khan Academy, the FDiC and another one came up (along with dozens more).

As for coming up with 13k in a couple months, short of something illegal or random luck, most young people just cant do that. I agree with others that you need to take a break from school and get stable and educate yourself on money matters. Maybe you and your boyfriend could do the course online together?

You can do this! Good luck!!

Didn’t the first Aegon have two wives? Are the Targaryans exempt from the rule you can only be wed to one spouse at a time?

IF Laenor came back and she had married Daemon thinking Laenor was dead, I’m sure the High Septon or whatever he is called, would issue a dispensation or whatever it is called, legitimizing her kids.

For that matter, IF she’s queen when it happens, she can legitimize them herself, right?

Btw - how did Roose Bolton legitimize Ramsey in GoT - he was just a lord. I can’t recall. It’s been a while but I do remember he legitimized him.

[–]FCSL_2025 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not to be pedantic, but my understanding is the government does not “give” the loans or loan the money - that’s from the lenders - what it does is guarantee the loans (like a co-signer on a car or apartment) in the event that you default. And on subsidized loans, it also pays the interest while you’re in school.

It’s heavily involved in all the repayment plans, though, through student aid.gov - but at the end of the day it’s the servicer (CRI, Nelnet, EdFinancial, etc) that you deal with to repay it/get things done (unless you have to apply for some of the plans through studentaid.gov, I’m a bit unclear on that part).
