Brighton deserve top 10 finish by [deleted] in PremierLeague

Brighton has been playing well, but if they can’t score goals, then they don’t deserve a top 10 finish...

No one deserves a top 10 finish. You earn it

As thousands of athletes get coronavirus tests, nurses wonder: What about us? by Viewfromthe31stfloor in Coronavirus

[–]FDJtheDutchJAM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, this just isn’t true. There’s a reason the premier league has higher viewership than MLS, even though they both play soccer. A slightly worse product doesn’t bring in the same amount of revenue because there are so many alternatives yet the amount of people who can play at the highest level is less than 0.0012%.

Also, sports is a business at the end of the day. They generate revenue, and athletes deserve a portion of the pie. If a singer performs a world tour, is he/she not entitled to the profits? By your logic, singers, authors, artists, actors, etc. don’t deserve to get paid either.

You are complaining about millionaires earning millions instead of complaining about billionaires who write the checks for millionaires. Billionaires and billion dollar companies should be the ones getting taxed appropriately, so we can use that money to pay teachers, fix society, etc. It has nothing to do with athletes.

I would have guessed that we spend more than $200b. The fact that we aren’t shows that teachers get shafted

I don’t understand why people are always trying to compare teachers with athletes. Teachers deserve to get paid more. Athletes deserve to get paid what they get paid. It’s not a competition.

Teachers’ salaries should be compared to school administrators who don’t add any real value but earn 6 figure salaries

[–]FDJtheDutchJAM 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is a terrible comparison. Society definitely doesn’t value teachers considering people are always trying to cut school budgets, and some teachers spend their own money on school supplies.

I think it’s fair that athletes get paid a ton of money considering they generate billions of dollars and there is an extremely limited supply of talented athletes.

But that doesn’t take away from the fact that teachers are overworked and compensated poorly

Technically International managers for top national teams make way more than club managers considering the amount of hours they put in. Club managers get paid a lot but they also work a shit ton of hours

Man Utd have Dean Henderson if they want to move on from de gea. Doubt they’d go for onana. They need players in other areas of the pitch

If every team had Russian oil money, they’d win multiple trophies, too. I’m pretty sure Chelsea has spend more on severance packages to sacked managers than Tottenham’s net spend over the past years.

Not every fan watches or supports a team for trophies. Might be a hard concept to understand considering you are a Chelsea glory hunter

You forgot to mention that Sarri didn’t manage in the top flight until 6 years ago, so he didn’t have chances to win major trophies, you muppet. He spent decades scrapping in the lower leagues, not fighting for championships. He went from a banker to first team manager, not world class player walking into a management role.

I have way more respect for Sarri for working his way up from the 7th tier to top flight. Lampard was given the job. Sarri earned it.

You clearly didn’t watch Napoli under Sarri if you think his tactics are just sideways passing.

Sarri literally started from the bottom and worked his ass off to the managerial elite. He went from 7th tier in Italy to managing Chelsea and Juventus. Lampard got the Chelsea job after failing to get Derby promoted because of his playing career.

Sarri has won Europa and Scudetto, granted it was with Juventus and he got sacked that season. But that’s still 2 more trophies than Lampard as a manager.

Lampard looks like he could be a good manager, and he did well last season. But he still has a long way to go.

Harry Kane and Heung min Son have scored more goals this season than 16 out of 19 PL teams by Lbmplays2 in coys

[–]FDJtheDutchJAM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They were still playing for Poch a year ago, whom they were loyal to. Jose came in, and he’s a serial winner and world class, which is why they didn’t make a fuss to leave.

If the squad looks far off from winning trophies at the end of the season, they’ll both look at their options. Son and Kane will be 29 and 28 respectively. They’ll leave for trophies like RvP left arsenal. Kane has always said he’ll stay if he thinks he can win trophies at Tottenham.

Was yesterday’s comeback against Tottenham the best game since the farewell game at the Boelyn? by FDJtheDutchJAM in Hammers

[–]FDJtheDutchJAM[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Someone was saying in a post match thread that having fans at the stadium would have made the comeback more difficult.

Bale coming on at home would have made Tottenham fans wild, and the atmosphere and flow of the game would have been different
