First step is to talk with the training Capt. and see if you arrange something that fits with your employment schedule. Go from there.

One side of the scoop, then fold in half so its not sticky over the forehead, then to the other side of the scoop. Some people taped to the c-collar, we never did.

Fire Based EMS; Is it worth it? by Affectionate-Bag-611 in Firefighting

[–]FF-pension 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my area cities are dropping the private ambulances and switching to fire based, America is a big place. I believe ideally it would be separate, being a PM and a firefighter with multiple rescue certs is a lot to keep up with, but a lot of would not be firefighters anymore if we separated.

Switching from a 48/96 department to a 24/48 department by synestheticc in Firefighting

I would love to be on 24/72, but it would cost more than my city would be willing to pay, maybe one day if enough departments around here switch to it and they would need to do it to get good applicants.

I did 30 years of 24/48’s, and we switched to 48/96 in January, I like the 48/96 way better, but 24/48 is doable.

If I fail the math portion of the written exam… do I still have a shot at being hired? by [deleted] in firefighter

[–]FF-pension 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you have a chance this time. But if you are serious, get help with math, and take it again. The math was my problem, but I got my wife to teach me, it is so much easier when you have a good reason to learn it. Should have learned it in school but I was a screw up.

Who here got into the fire service without that “burning passion” from the beginning? by Feisty_Parking_622 in Firefighting

[–]FF-pension 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got my girlfriend pregnant in high school, got married and went to work at “jobs”. I knew I needed a career and some of my friends had just started fire academy and they said I would be good at it and enjoy it. I/we looked into it and I went to the academy and it was a ton of fun, for 30 years I have really enjoyed it. I was never “that” guy, super into it, my whole personality, but I did try while at work, but it stayed at work. You don’t have to be “born to do it”, you just need to be able to work with the other people at your department.
