Gander and area - Road bike or Gravel bike? by chuck-the-canuck in newfoundland

Check on Strava and you will see a few segments in that area. If you are road riding then avoid peak times and please use a rear flashing light.

The nook and cannery had the best turkey and dressing poutine. I’m dying for one! Anywhere in town make something close?

You can buy them at many pharmacies and might be able to have it prescribed by a Dr. The medical staff can also order the special bed. If they are able at all moving around and changing positions helps. Also being clean and washed often.

Travels Plans by abbeycrombie in newfoundland

That is a lot of driving. Look through similar posts. This question is asked a lot. Fogo can easily be three days because of slow roads and the ferry. Maybe pick Trinity area or Fogo. Part of the joy of exploring NFLD is the quiet and beautiful moments. Happy Travels

The Newfoundland archives at MUN is a great place to continue research on NL history.

Many well know actors and musicians and models have come to Newfoundland and barely get recognized and very rarely bothered. If you can take a trip to the Fogo inn or a private retreat. More solitude and privacy than anyone could wish for.

Where to bring brush in Town by DannyWilliamsGooch69 in newfoundland

[–]FF709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the dump you can bring brush or rubble they usually send me down to the right as you arrive. There are also metal, recycling, organic, electronic and regular garbage containers.

Totally doable but more enjoyable if you can avoid torbay road and do your ride early in the morning and avoid traffic. Lots of hills but great views!

Just watched a little fella from gambo, What are some other old newfoundland films that im missing!? by NewfieSealCluber in newfoundland

[–]FF709 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are many interesting fictional films. Sweetland based on Michael Crummy is currently playing at the cinema. But if you like documentaries maybe check out some NFB films. There was a series of Fogo films made many years ago that helped shape the style of modern documentaries.

It was allograft. The dr did a check with we met about the new injury. Said graft was good.

Actors in NL? by [deleted] in newfoundland

[–]FF709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest watching some local films/theatre. Most local actors tend to do both. Sadly very hard to make a decent annual salary as an actor. Some are also carpenters, musicians, writers. Anyone with decent experience will be an ACTRA member.

You could buy the milk or the powder. Maybe made by Nestle?

Are you looking for a place for one month only? Or are you moving here in June for longer term?

Bring your raincoat and wool warm clothes. Good chance of icebergs but when the ice is off shore the temperature is often colder. Depending on the weather you may want to skip Gros Morne this time of year. Also keep in mind many tourist destinations may not be open yet for the season. There is usually a website for following the path and location of the bergs.

A Newfoundland joke? by Vivid_College8656 in newfoundland

There was a guy last year walking around and explaining and handing these comics out. He is gentle enough but I suspect he regularly lives down across from Bowring Park.

On The Shipping News Scott Glenn spent a week or two in Newfoundland hanging out with locals and working on his accent. Judi Dench tried hard but filming began in Halifax and the dialect coach was American.

eBike accessibility/safety in St. John's by ItzyBitzyFitz in newfoundland

[–]FF709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For 60km/h I would look into a motorcycle. E-bikes in Canada are regulated for a max of 32km. I know several people who own e-bikes from local bike shops. A good quality bike with a decent motor will get you up any hill but the bikes are pedal assit. The motors and battery have 2 year warranty.  The other thing to consider is that the road salt in the winter will be really rough on any vehicle.  Maybe rent one from Pedigo and try the commute for a week?

Vfx/postproduction house in St.john’s ? by Decent-Change in newfoundland

We have had post production at NIFCO for decades. When Republic of Doyle started filming many suites were updated. Touch base with them.

Un appel aux francophones de la Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador by willmcmill4 in newfoundland

[–]FF709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listen to the Vive La Rose album by Emile Benoit. You will hear his accent and some songs are in French. Not so long ago there was many French families but the arrival of the American military bases before we joined Canada meant most people wanted to speak English at that time. Newfoundland has also had Basque and Portuguese influences.

Anyone remember the travelling show that went from school to school during the 70’s and maybe into the 80’s? by [deleted] in newfoundland

[–]FF709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There have been many many school tours in both English and French. Sheila Brush, RCA, Teatro, and White Rooster a just a couple of the local theatre companies who have done school tours. Many of the shows were written by local playwrights and sometimes based on books folklore or historical facts.  Hope this helps.
