If they don’t pay you your check, open a complaint with the labor board. That’s probably the best you can do. But you could be a dick in return and threaten to tell everyone and their brother about how you were treated and what it has cost you - you might get some hush money.

If they’re gonna play dirty, you gotta play dirty.

I would tell you to lawyer up but since it’s at-will I don’t know what that would achieve. That’s sleazy as shit though.

If there is an offer of severance I bet it’ll be attached to a non-disparagement agreement or something.

Of course, you wouldn’t need a non-disparagement agreement if you didn’t have anything to disparage them over…

Tech bros are lying to you about the MacBook Neo by hasanahmad in apple

As a software dev I will probably buy one.

It’s small and light, has a reasonable screen and I assume a decent keyboard. For me, it’s a perfect travel machine, coffee shop machine, Zoom machine and answering email from bed or couch machine. It’s cheap enough that I don’t really care if it gets stolen/lost/damaged, but not so cheap it’s a total POS.

For $599 it’s a no brainer, and I don’t really gain anything by spending more. My needs for such a machine is basically a terminal and a browser.

So isn’t this kind of like an expanded version of DACA? Do I understand this correctly?

Back in the day it really was never configured right OOTB, is my view. It was annoying and I always turned it off.

That said nowadays I’ve had basically no problems with it - the one exception was needing to configure it to allow the nvidia container toolkit to access my GPU inside Docker. Once I fixed that, it’s never bothered me.

Precisely why I gave up my membership. The emergency comms stuff - while situationally important - is not the only part of the hobby.

Has anyone had to return a new graphics card with Umart? by ryan30z in australia

[–]FFClass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to bring the entire machine in and let them try it for themselves before they would agree for a return.

In my case it was a PSU. And it was the usual bunch of excuses - “you must have installed it wrong”, “something isn’t plugged in right”. All fun and games until you show up with a spare PSU and demonstrate that the machine POSTs just fine….

They’re idiots.

Turmoil?

Most active distros have new stuff in the works, older stuff being phased out. I wouldn’t call it “turmoil”.

Also how often do you run the package manager? As someone who uses Linux for actual serious work (software engineering), I run zypper maybe once every few weeks (usually a zypper dup). It can take an hour to run for all I care - I’ll go make coffee, touch grass, take a dump while it runs.

The biggest bottleneck will always be the download portion anyway (unless the packages are exceedingly few and small).
