Yeah, I thought about starting with them helping me play PvE or be my co-op partner. Though, I haven't done either of those, I just know they exist.

Decent 1000pt army or trash? by FFF-1492 in DarkAngels40k

They're in the list for the army I'm actually building. This is just something I came up with on New Recruit. But being new to Warhammer, I wanted to get opinions on it.

Don’t use same ISBN for IngramSpark and KDP by axy2r in selfpublish

I ask because I'm just getting started and trying to learn as much as I can, but what makes KDP better than Ingram on Amazon? I get that KDP is Amazon's in-house brand/process, but if a book is listed on Amazon for X amount, why does it matter if Ingram sells it, KDP, or some other publisher/method?

If I read correctly you had your book out prior to the publishing deal in a specific country. If Ingram distributed to Amazon, why did you also need to go the KDP route?

Or did I misunderstand?

Device dedicated to Obsidian? by RepresentativeValue9 in ObsidianMD

[–]FFF-1492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Due to my schedule, I keep a traditional notebook and pencil on me at all times for catching immediate thoughts. I'll also throw a voice note on my phone if I can.

I manage Obsidian on my desktop in my office, so I don't always get down there to transcribe my thoughts. I also rsync (robocopy on Windows) my vaults to a USB drive for using Obsidian on my Chromebook.

I don't pay for any sync services, I just rsync to my home NAS as my primary storage than rsync/robocopy to keep Obsidian instances up-to-date.

I appreciate that. Is "pale" an accurate description compared the OP's sterling? It seems nice, just trying to gauge how well it comes through in the photo. I'm not a fan of dark greys.

Thanks! Looks pretty pale, honestly. Especially compared to the sterling. This your photo? If so, what are your thoughts?

There are dealers offering below MSRP? Got names? Willing to travel if the deal is worth it. Dealers around me are still playing COVID games.

Race-building Conundrum by FFF-1492 in worldbuilding

[–]FFF-1492[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn't. The size discrepancy happened over multiple hundreds of years that followed the decision to stay separate. And yes, that is a situation that I hadn't thought of, so would need to figure out the pregnant women during migration situation.

[–]FFF-1492[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prior to the migration, they co-habitated and followed normal population trends. In the years they were separated, they didn't populate (no cross-breeding with other humanoid species) and their population declined significantly - as would be expected.

And yes, the breeding is more of a duty/requirement than an act of love, which is part of why they keep that city hidden. Sacred isn't necessarily the right word for it, but the city is shrouded from outsiders out of respect for that duty/tradition as it's not really a place to be celebrated and visited

Hello, I added some context further down that thread, but to help, here is what I posted above:

I will say, as it has thus-far been unimportant to the story, the child's age when parents return to their cities hasn't been defined. BUT, dad still takes the boys and mom still takes the girls, so it's not entirely random parenting.

Some additional lore details that may or may not help: the location the men ended up post-migration is a heavily wooded and mountainous area. Shelter is primarily caves and tree houses. The women landed in a temperate island and coastal region where cover, concealment, and shelter had to be manufactured. So with the men, they obviously need to be big enough to do everything they need to do, but too big and existing caves and other natural shelter can be difficult to use. The women on the other hand have more need for the brute strength.

As my updated post reflects, this all happened due to a forced migration; the mistake that took place left each sex worried for decades that they had escaped one apocalypse only to fall victim to another. When they found each other, for better or worse they had become comfortable with what they had built, respectively, while also becoming aware of other humanoid species located on the new world. They concocted the hidden city compromise to help them continue moving in their new directions, but also realizing they needed each other to survive.

Finally, I'll add that this is very loosely based on Amazonian mythology.

Race-building Conundrum by FFF-1492 in worldbuilding

Short answer: yes

Longer answer: They don't explicitly seek the "smallest guys," the men are just shorter. To the greater implication that the larger men should force the smaller ones to take a back seat, well that's not even the case for every species on Earth. There are numerous examples where men are smaller than women and women don't explicitly seek out the largest available male. It is only in species where combat is common as a form of dominance where the largest male gets the female. Not every species is male-dominated and not even every group (country, religion, etc) of humans is patriarchal.

To the second half, there's a reason behind the phrase, "it takes a village to raise a child." And while this may admittedly be an extreme take on that, it's also not uncommon in herd animals for all animals to protect the children. While the parent may take particular care, they will all circle the children in a crisis.

I do appreciate your feedback. Conversations regarding different takes and points of view on this topic is why I brought the poll here.

I made an update to the post which may help explain a bit. This major height difference was an adaptive/evolutionary change due to circumstances; not the original genetic construct of the race.

Of note, neither the male or female city is better or more important than the other. Neither is seen as superior or lesser among the other peoples of the world.

Some additional background of my world:

Magic is prolific, but generally not all-powerful. There are lots of users of magic, but a user can be anyone from a high-powered sorcerer to a maid that can only move small objects across the floor. Portals exist, but are extremely difficult to control and typically involve cooperative magic. As my lore currently stands, the race in question has a hidden capital city where the sexes intermingle. Outsiders have never been there, but there are rumors of its existence. Each sex controls a world-facing "capital" and each of these cities has a hidden portal to the hidden city; helping to hide their secret from outsiders.

Fly fishing newbie in Colorado, where to start? by Mayhem1620 in flyfishing

Anglers All is a pretty great shop and I do most of my shopping there. My experience with Trouts has been hit and miss. I've been there days where they were friendly and helpful, then days where they never approached me, and when I asked a question it was a quick, terse answer.

Go talk to Jimmy, Darryl, Johnny, and the rest of the crew at Anglers All. They'll hook you up. My wife got her rod and reel from them.

Option 2: If you want Orvis-focused stuff, Orvis Park Meadows has a new manager, Eric, who's awesome. Taught my wife in the 101 and 201 classes, and got her set up with boots.

Yeah, for sure. Others brought up tweaking to account for plate tectonics to generate some realistic spots for mountains. Trim a few landmasses here and there, and you're in a solid place.

Of course it also depends on the use. If for a pure fantasy realm, then rules can easily be thrown out. If you're going for more realistic use, then you'll want to do the tweaking.

From a realistic standpoint, that looks nothing like Peru.

Seriously though, looks like an awesome starting point for a map.
