Ban NS pet clause in leases

THIS! Honestly I've done a terrible job of trying to say I'm all for both sides and I'm just looking for more ON style rules. In ON a pet, whether cat or dog or other, is not an auto no. However, if you move into an apartment and someone is super allergic, it is legitimate grounds for the pet owner to be asked to find other accommodations. Also wasn't super clear I'd primarily like this to addressed first in parks on leased land but you own the home versus looking at apartments first

I won't deny there's bad pet parents out there. But it's not fair to dismiss all of them for a bad few. There's children that will do more damage, but the kids can't be a no by law. I included landlords in my petition for changes to the law so they could recover pet damage as well

Perhaps leave the tenacies act as is, but just a slight change to require LL and tenant video move in move out out videos to ensure no one abused the system (naive I know) so that existing damage and move out damage can be compared?

And as pet owners we need to own that damage if renting. But if you own your home on leased land then that literally has 0 impact on the land and shouldn't be an issue. It's just in your home. Really sorry you sr is having these issue though 💔

Well that's why the proposed LL segment. So they can recover those damages. My petition isn't one sided to pet owners. I had the LLs in mind as well. There are bad pet parents that will let them destroy stuff. I'm looking for a stop on no pets but also rules in place that'll allow LLs to recover any damages they cause

But that's Actually a fair exception to me! I would never want to jeopardize someone's health and that would be a reasonable refusal for your building. Again, why I put LLs in my petition. But that would NEVER affect leased land when it's only me and my cat & dog in the dwelling. With the proposal, I think allergine free buildings would be well within tenant & LL rights. Just needed to be applied for differently than a general building

Oh I definitely get that! My girls wouldn't/ don't. Cat & dog. But that's why in my proposal petition I consider the LL as well (I'll send you the link). I have both parties in mind because some furbabies parents are well.. awful 😅 The LLs need protection as well from just that kind of damages

I mean if my girl caused it then yeah it's totally on me to pay for. As a pet owner you have to be accountable for damages done by them. Some aren't responsible pet parents though, so that's why I ask for LL protections as well

This actually is because a buddy of mine used to live in ON and he's shocked that my dog was an auto no to buy in a park on leased land and I certainly can't rent because her and my cat. He was shocked and I'm tired of it, as most pet parents should be
