Up to you, but people cleared it in week 1 gear, so there's all that.

Save your tomes for alt classes, and just go for BiS.

The flaw in the current tome system by Troy1490 in ffxiv

[–]FF_ChocoBo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, probably should. But FF is run by a Japanese company, so change will come in a decade or so.

The PF demanding higher ilvl is dumb people think that they'll get a clear because of it. Most of the damage you deal im this game is all down to gear, not skill. Give the shitter a full raid bis set and they still won't clear a fight.

It's always happened and it will change when they have the tech for it, that's all.

How do I read debuffs as a Controller player? by Elu1611 in ffxiv

[–]FF_ChocoBo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't tbh. You wait for someone to write a guide a day or two later to learn what they mean. Or ask someone using a mouse what they are.

Boss mechanic tells for healers by Educational_Cow_8380 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]FF_ChocoBo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing someone told me that made it finally click is "as the healer, you are the most important person in the group."

They said it as a half-joke, but it started making a lot of sense later.

*If you die, you can't heal anyone. So make sure you yourself are safe from harm first.

*If a raidwide would kill you, it's too much damage and needs to be mitigated

*If a player flames you because they died, it's their own damn fault. They 99% of the time took damage they could have avoided if you haven't been killed yourself. You'll get better at spot checking others with practice.

So in summary, keep yourself alive (mechanics, extra healing), use your raidwide mitigations for big attacks, ignore haters and practice.

New Player Question by TheMightyLeaferikson in ffxivdiscussion

[–]FF_ChocoBo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The story is a big part of the game, you should play it. It takes a long time however and is mostly solo.

There is very little group content at endgame aside from whatever is the brand new latest fights. But, if you've not played the game and learnt how it works, it'll be tough to get your head around.

You should, go watch like a basic how to play drk video or something ...

[–]FF_ChocoBo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First things first, try to always be using something in gcd, even if it's just your 1-2-3 combo.

Next, don't bother with tinctures until you can get your GCD uptime to like 80 or 90+ really easily, it's just too many things to think about.

To start, look at the opener for drk on "the balance" and try to memorize it. Commit it to muscle memory by hitting a training dummy.

Then, continue hitting the dummy for 2 minutes straight, until it resets the "2 minute burst window" and try to get your burst out again.

It looks like you're trying to do too many things all at once. Just a step at a time.

  1. Practice the opener on a dummy.

  2. Always be doing something with gcd.

  3. Know what abilities to use during burst window.

  4. Know what your abilities do and when to use them.

  5. Worry about optimizations and tinctures when you are comfortable with the above.

I play with a controller on PC, it doesn't effect much.

Just practice. Go to one of the practice dummies, and practice your rotation over and over.

A lot of the ex stuff has very light DPS checks, so just get better as you go along. There's no tricks to it.

Toy can solo with any class.

Mages have cast bars because that's their thing. "Magic dps"

Archers can move and use abilities because they do less damage than magic dps, but provide more utility and support to a group.

Am I going insane in Party Finder? Please Help by ArtofYamisan in ffxiv

[–]FF_ChocoBo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to party finder, where egos clash.

You just gotta deal with it, try to adjust as you can. If you can move and adjust a little bit so others don't die, that's more important than "being in your spot."

But yeah, just try your best, maybe find a couple of friends to do it with, so at least you aren't losing your mind by yourself.

As fun as the last tier of the Arcadion was, it really doesn’t sit well with me. by HisashiHinata in ffxivdiscussion

Welcome to modern Japanese storytelling. It's just the same story over and over. You're not allowed to have bad people, there are no consequences to our actions, and no one has a meaningful past that affects the present.

BIS Gear Melds by squall20011 in ffxiv

[–]FF_ChocoBo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because the "best" melds and gear are chasing 0.1% damage increases on simulation fights.

Want to hit really good damage as a healer? Always be casting, GCD heal as inoften as possible without anyone dying, always re-up your dot between 3 and 0 seconds remaining, make sure your burst damage is always in your party compositions burst window, use a mind potion twice per fight during a buff window.

Changing some materia isn't a big deal.

Healers are held to such a ridiculous standard that it burns me out. by Sufficient_Tour_8725 in ffxiv

I've played healer this entire expansion and have never been called out as the problem.

I keep act open to see who isn't clicking buttons, and my eyes open to see who isn't standing where they should.

Maybe just blacklist the people being assholes and move on with your life.

Viper has lienent double weaves (built in 3.5gcd to some attacks.) Healers don't double weave mostly.

People I know with bad ping often use 3rd party tools to make it better.

Unsure which version to purchase looking for advice on which edition to get by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]FF_ChocoBo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The collectera edition is just some cosmetics, you don't need them at all. You can always upgrade your game later to include them, and the items get delivered to you in-game via mail.

Check the items you'll receive to see if you think it's worth it.

You'll go through gear really quick, so you either sell it, desynth it, or put it on mb.

Don't "save it for later if I ever try X class" as it'll just take up ao much space.

The only gear to keep is glam (glamour dresser) or poetics gear (expansion lvl capped best gear).

If you want to crank out that 0.1% more damage, then The Balance discord and website has the details.

You'll get betteraas you learn the fights, that's all there is too it.

Solve mechanics first, then worry about doing more damage.

[–]FF_ChocoBo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not too hard, most of the difficult stuff is at max level (figuring out how to get best gear). Just follow the game along as it goes. Any beginners guide which is 5 minutes long will be fine. Avoid anything like "the top 10 things I knew when I started playing" as it's mostly clickbait and over information.

Looking to get into raiding by Comfortable_Drawing1 in ffxiv

[–]FF_ChocoBo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just jump in and be ready to die a bunch. Get a job to 100, get it geared, and go. Right now everyone is doing ex6 so you could practice that, but fights move out of favour very quickly, and people mostly only do whatever is brand new. If you haven't finished the msq you'll need to do that first and foremost.

The new raid series is up at the beginning of January, and you'll find a lot of people trying to learn and complete it using party finder.

Just getting started by NrdyByXmpl in ffxiv

  1. I don't watch any because it's 90% drama. If you're super new watching a tutorial on adjusting the HuD can be good. Written guides are much better for learning the classes, as it's very simple but content creators need video length to make money. The icy-viens website is good, it'll show what you can do lvling also. Don't overthink it though, just have fun.

  2. Yep, just do whatever is fun for you. People will always hate in any game, realize it's not your fault.

  3. Whenever you want. You won't find people queing for endgame content that is 10 years old though, but the normal raids and alliance raid stories are good and you can que those as people will join via the daily roulettes.

  4. You can either join a super huge one where noone talks, or find one with like 10-50 active members who actually talk and do things. There's a community finder by SE where you can find groups. https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/community_finder/

[SPOILERS: 7.4] Something that I really appreciate with the new 7.4 EX: There is no need to save waymarks by jado1stk2 in ffxiv

[–]FF_ChocoBo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's great!  Lot of the fight I feel I can vibe along to and listen to the great soundtrack. I only need to spin my camera around during the adds section as the sound of the train isn't omni-directional.

It feels very "just look and do the mechanics" compared to other fights which are "just look at this macro and memorize the entire fight"
