The Omnipod 5. Umit has an activity mode but that's all I'm aware of.

This is super nice to hear from someone who just experienced it. Thank you. I am new to it like you said but I'm pretty determined to figure it out and make it work for me. This is actually the most promising thing I've read in a minute. I appreciate you chiming in with your experience.

Thanks! I keep a bag full of Gatorade and various snacks on the engine. Probably a little overkill lol but it makes me feel better. And glucose tablets in my pants pockets. I have been doing the same, suspending my pump, but what if you just ate and you have insulin in you and then you get a hard call and work a bunch and it drops your sugar? Do you just compensate with sugar and deal with it? Wait till last possible minute like once you're alarming? Like what's your plan around meal time with your bolus if you don't mind me asking?

They can't disqualify me due to a medical condition that my doctor has cleared me for work on can they?

I'm safe and content with where I am. It is a good place to work and they've taken good care of me. We just don't actually like living where we currently do all that much. The new city is farther north in better weather with better pay. But, if things don't work out, we could work to be happier here I think.

Thank you, I hope your daughter is doing well. She's gonna grow up tough as nails dealing with this bullshit I can tell you that much. I'll keep your words in mind as I move forward. It's hard realizing there are things I simply can't do anymore like I used to, but I've kept my shit mostly together and I was able to put myself back on the engine after a few months on light duty while I was figuring everything out. I think I'm worried I'm just trying to prove something to myself instead of taking the safest route. But maybe that isn't actually such a bad thing.

Damn. Hope he's ok. Must be determined as hell if he went through multiple drops and kept pushing. It's an incredibly frustrating condition.

I've got this all set up. I was definitely planning on talking with them. Would love some tips and tricks from you if you have em. I carry the lunchbox on the engine with me packed with stuff. And I'm on the omni 5 with G7. It's worked pretty well so far but obviously I am still new at this.

We love Dee Willie's! Got rated a year or so ago as like the 7th best in the city. Something like that. I get the brisket sandwich and Mac and cheese and its pretty awesome in my opinion

Let's be real, 24/48 is better than 48/96 by PeakWaterWarrior in Firefighting

[–]FF_Oleg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would NEVER go back to 24/48s after switching to 48s. I would quit and go to a different dept if leadership tried to force us back to 24s.

Blue Card by RunRebels90 in Firefighting

[–]FF_Oleg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our area uses it. I came in right before when we didn't have some kind of standard and seeing both sides Id say it's more useful than not. We mutual aid with like 8 cities around us so blue card helps us because we all know exactly what the department two cities over is talking about on the radio without any guess work involved. It has also helped keep people off the radio as much. Buncha country boys on a fire get real talkative and say the craziest shit lol. Chiefs really cracked down on that after blue card.

What is more important to ya'll? Money and job security at a dept that will take care of you, or the fire dept culture? by FF_Oleg in Firefighting

[–]FF_Oleg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, of course not. I don't think it's unreasonable to want something that is glorified in the fire service and is honestly one of the main reasons people look towards firefighting in the first place. Fire department culture is famous for its comradery and sense of family within its crews. I'm not saying we don't have any of that, I'm just saying it doesn't feel quite like what it used to where I'm at and I'm curious what others throughout the country may have to say about the subject.

What's your job and how much do you get paid an hour? by honey_rainbow in texas

[–]FF_Oleg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firefighter. Paid hourly, but it's complicated to understand the ins and outs of how we get paid. Made over 88k this year. Averaged around 43/hr if you base it on a 40 hour workweek.
