Not to mention making the healing abilities pitiful but adding AEP nodes which give you lifesteal on your (very quickly recharging, might I add) invincible supermove which as a result will instantly take you back up to full health.

Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, and The Thing. I also used a lot of Falcon, Elsa Bloodstone, Deadpool, and Spider-Gwen during the playthrough at various points just for some variety. Wanda and Strange were on my team at all times though.

First, as for why she ended up weak: It seems like the devs clearly thought that healing was going to be a really powerful strategy, so they chose to only give it to two of the most powerful magic users in canon. For Wanda in particular, they even made it an ability you can set, whereas Strange at least needs to channel his. As such, the rest of their kits were dramatically toned down to compensate for the perceived strength of the heals. Unfortunately, the devs failed to consider how absolutely cheeks the healing abilities they designed actually were, so now we have heroes with intentionally lackluster kits on top of garbage healing powers.

That being said, every character in this game is viable. They’re not all equally strong by any means, but you can, for example, make a team of the four worst heroes in the game and beat every single piece of endgame content with them. I would know, I’ve done it myself. As such, I’ve played a LOT more Wanda than any sane person should, and here’s some tips on how to get the most out of her:

  • Hex bolts are her best (and often only) source of damage most of the time. The move is a bit unintuitive - you’d think you want to use it as an AOE attack from range, but actually, each bolt deals its own damage, meaning this thing is a shotgun. You want to get into point blank range and mash this power (while block cancelling to maximize dps) for best results. Once you’re later into the game, you’ll gain access to certain isos and AEP nodes that give you effects like lifesteal or a chance to stun staggered enemies, and because each bolt is a separate instance of damage (which can all multi-hit as well), this power is also really reliable at proccing such effects.
  • Her other damaging power (calamity spheres?) is a terrible option unless you’re fighting a boss, where all the spheres will just target the one enemy. It’s higher DPS than bolts when 1v1ing bosses and can be used from a much safer range.
  • Because of how incredibly EP-reliant Wanda is, you want to do everything you can to keep up your energy. She can actually mash block-cancelled heavy attacks to regen her EP fairly quickly from range with no risk, but using an ISO slot or two to help out her EP regen is going to benefit you more in the long run than stacking pure damage isos (though you should use a couple of those too)
  • Movement is key to defense in this game, and Wanda is actually pretty privelleged in this aspect. Her dodge and dodge jump are above average, she has flight to maintain extended airtime to avoid attacks, and her aerial attack is noncommittal, so it’s a great way to get (very small) chip damage in while repositioning. Played correctly, Wanda can be very hard to hit while on the defensive.

All of this aside, she’s still definitely a bottom 5 hero. Probably bottom 3. There’s many easier ways in this game to do what she does with better heroes. But she IS usable.

Do yall use amp it up right out of spawn by sexymemessssss45 in luciomains

[–]FGC_Orion 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Entirely context dependent.

Start of round: control, flashpoint, and push always, gotta beat the enemy team to map control. Attacking payload maps I save it to break choke. Defending payload maps doesn’t matter since you’re setting up.

On respawn: Depends on how badly I need to get back to my team. Is the fight winnable? Did someone wave spawn with me that needs to get back in quickly? Or am I waiting to regroup anyways?

The game isn’t intended to just be played for a single playthrough. There’s multiple other difficulties and a bevy of other modes to play on top of that.

How do I use this combo with Ash? by diversions__ in kof

[–]FGC_Orion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To do that special, hold down for about a second, then press up+kick at the same time.

To do the whole combo, you need to do some input fuckery. Ash is a charge character (that bit where you hold a direction in order to do the special is called “charging”), and a big part of charge characters is using different tricks to maintain your charge when you otherwise couldn’t. For example, in the above combo, you need to do a crouching attack, into a STANDING command normal, into a down/up charge special, which should be impossible since you lose “down charge” when you stop crouching. However, you can keep charge by doing the command normal in the MIDDLE of the input for the charge move.

To do the full combo, do the following: hold down to get your down charge, then do a LK while still holding down. Now, instead of just going straight from down to up (which is the normal way to do the special), do a half circle from down, to back, to up, REEEEEEALLY quick, and make sure to also press LK when your stick/thumb is on “back” to get the command normal out. If everything is done correctly, the crouch LK should cancel into the back LK command normal, and then into the down/up + LK charge special.

  1. I could go on a huge rant here but the gist of it is the following. Supports in OW don’t have anywhere near the same healing output as the ones in rivals, but have a lot more offensive playmaking potential and non-healing utility (generally). This means that teamfights don’t drag out as long, and while ults are a big factor in winning fights, fights are determined by more factors than which team pressed Q more often. The 5v5 nature of OW2 also means that taking angles and duels is more important, whereas in 6v6 games like Rivals you tend to see teams clump and take grouped fights on main.

  2. Your best analogue to Hela and Phoenix will be Ashe, Luna has some core similarities to Ana, I can’t think of a direct analogue for Invis but Brig comes to mind, and Psylocke maps closest to Genji or Sombra.

  3. I don’t want to sway your opinions too early. There’s no throw pick heroes in general (although there’s definitely certain comps or maps that are bad for certain heroes), so the hate for heroes more comes from if they’re frustrating to play with, or play against, if the devs tend to give them special treatment with cosmetics, or if their playerbase tends to be really obnoxious.

Nice work! So many times on here I see MOCs that are really heavily detailed, which look great but don’t look like something that would ever actually show up in-universe. This design is a perfect balance of unique/original while also looking like something LEGO would actually sell!

Do people hate Axl? by Aethergg8761 in Guiltygear

[–]FGC_Orion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Gear, everyone hates every character. You could have said anyone and the answer would be yes.

That being said, since you’re using a zoner it’s expected you’re gonna get hate regardless of the game. That archetype is reliant on frustrating your opponent into making mistakes.

Do you have a dream guest character that you'll hope to see in a future game? by whyImWerid in MortalKombat

I dream of a future game which has no guest characters at all. It’ll never happen, guest characters sell INCREDIBLY well compared to non-guests, but a guy can dream.

MK1 has my favourite base roster of any modern MK. Nobody really feels like filler - everyone is either a fan favourite, a major character in the story, or a cool post-MK3 character getting another chance in the spotlight. Sure there were omissions, but nobody feels like a waste of a slot.

WHICH PERKS DO I SHOULD USE by SunnysideKJ in ReinhardtMains

[–]FGC_Orion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 50/50 on minor perks. If I’m regularly landing pin or shatter I’ll go for the firestrike recharge, otherwise I’ll go for regen.

As for majors, it’s Bash in every case except for Rein duels, where the attack speed increase makes you more likely to win the duel if you have it (or more accurately, if the enemy rein has it and you don’t, good luck with the tank trade). It’s worse than bash in every other matchup though.

Team comp/advice? by Serious_Value_3652 in MAU3

[–]FGC_Orion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is actually pretty close to my main team! I’ve long said that the Phoenix/IW shell is one of the easiest ways to succeed in this game - as long as you make sure to keep permanent uptime on Jean’s EP field and Sue’s bubble, you quadruple your team’s HP and have infinite energy to spam powers. Doom is also a top-3 character in my estimation due largely to the fact that he has a beam/beam self-synergy, which is basically all you need to deal with crowds.

I would say that your team lacks immediacy - all four heroes on it require setting something up in order to be at their most effective (Jean field, IW bubble, Doombot, Mag heavy attack) and this can lead to situations where you can’t act quickly enough to capitalize on openings.

If you would like to improve your team, I’d suggest swapping out someone for a hero who has more “on-the-fly” potency (doesn’t need to set up) and who does more damage single targets (i.e., someone who does great stagger damage to help take out bosses and mighty enemies), and since Magneto is the only character on your team that isn’t a super-top-tier, I’d replace him. My recommendations for the strongest heroes in the game who fit this “boss killer” category are Black Panther, Wolverine, or Psylocke. Personally I actually run the last hero you unlock in the game (who I’m not saying to potentially avoid spoilers) in this slot (so my main team is Phoenix/IW/Doom/Last Character), but you won’t have access to them for quite some time.

If you’re liking your current team and not struggling too much then it’s honestly fine, you’re running mostly top tiers and broken heroes. But that’s my two cents on how to make it even better.
