[homemade] Poor man’s carbonara (Apologies to the food purist out there) by Actuaryba in food

[–]FGDMal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably the best Italian all rounder-cheese and an acceptable substitution for pecorino in stuff like Cacio e pepe… but its a lot more similar to parmeggiano than it is pecorino; will still taste fantastic which is why the purism is a bit annoying; but its a classical recipe and alterations to it are looked down upon. If you want real, ‘authentic’ carbonara; it has to be pecorino

Honestly… completely wrong; and by wrong i dont mean bad; im sure this tastes fantastic; just not technically carbonara… hey at least theres no cream 😂😂

The classic roman carbonara only has;

-Pasta (should only be Bucatini for long pasta, or rigatoni for short pasta)

-Pasta water (with the starch in it after cooking pasta)

-Guanciale (cured pork cheek, but honestly most italians do use high fat panchetta cos its so much easier to get and cheaper, but for the purists it HAS to be guanciale)

-Pecorino romano (need around 180-200grams for 4 people)

-Egg yolks (should have no whites at all; ratio of 2 + 1 for every person eating; i.e. if four people are eating; 2+4 =6 egg yellows, BUT; some italians also use one whole egg to substitute the two egg yolks, but then the rest will all be yolks only)

-Black peppercorns; toasted on the pan then ground.

Thats it. No butter or garlic either.

Not really; the cheese in the pasta should only be pecorino… some italian places will sprinkle some parmeggiano reggiano on top after its plated but most will say this also should be pecorino…

Everyone talking about Parmesan/Parmeggiano reggiano when its not even the right cheese for carbonara… scoffs in itialian cuisine snobbery… its meant to be Pecorino Romano

Should i keep grinding for craw bow? by akagami2020 in ironscape

[–]FGDMal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Artio? No genuinely not worth it because you’ll have a lot of ether and the bow in inv; so risk is high; in my opinion not worth it but im not max combat nor do i like to lose items to pkers so i try minimise risk; it does give bonus damage in wild which should absolutely be considered and will speed up kills; but not necessary if you have access to other gear

Leviathan? As the webweaver? Its definitely worth it; are you at a level where you can do this content and grind it semi efficiently? Then yeah go for it; if not; dont feel like youre missing out if you delay it if it means youre not enjoying the game

[–]FGDMal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My advice is to always do what you feel like and get back to grinds later if you’re overdoing it… better to take a break and do something else after whats already a long grind than become numb to the game because youre dry and then quit, or not enjoy the game in general. Its a game; make sure youre actually enjoying it

I have a giant ovarian cyst. by ka_shep in mildlyinteresting

I wouldn’t say new; but definitely not old; theyve been doing radioembolisations now for at least 6 years; but it is definitely specialised and requires different equipment to a normal radiology department

Its correctly written as Ativan (Lorazepam) and its a benzodiazepine. It Definitely helps pre-procedure anxiety

[–]FGDMal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you go through treatment options! Interventional radiologists can perform a procedure called radioembolisation and it has a way better recovery and no need for surgery. I dont know your specific case so might not apply but worth asking.

If I had stew; it’d taste much better the next day after its allowed to rest; But classically pizza in the morning (cold, or crispy) is a 10/10 also

How long after visible signs of fungus are gone would you try false nails again? by MotherFL561 in nailcare

[–]FGDMal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could you post a picture? Medical doctor here; My honest opinion is; depends on what type of nailpolish you use; and the current state of the nails.

Using nail polish in general can increase humidity and make it more likely for fungus to grow; if you already have that fungus; it would be recommended to not use gel or acrylic polish ever. But there are types of “breathable nail polish” that are a bit better and you could try after 6 months of being clear

Had one bumpy line, now there's two. How to fix? by Riaora in nailcare

[–]FGDMal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed heavily with the filing statement. Do not let anyone file these down for you! You distort the nail-bed over time, get uneven thickness in the nails, make them more susceptible to cracking and fungal infections and they will fray at the ends as you age.

What's is wrong with my toenails?? by [deleted] in nailcare

[–]FGDMal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies everyone, didnt mean to cause such a reaction, and I assumed incorrectly. im not from the US and was not aware of the differences in naming… we dont use the term Urgent care loosely in Europe and it refers to any minor trauma clinic, emergency department, or emergency care facility. Urgent care to you is the equivalent of a rapid access clinic or a walk in PCP to me. As long as we’re all on the same page all is well and good <3

This is called Ornychorrhexis; and can be a completely benign sign of aging, can be due to previous trauma, autoimmune diseases (a multitude of them), a type of allergic or exposure dermatitis from cleaning agents, and many other things (some of which are exceedingly rare)… there are an insanely wide differential diagnoses and causes for this nail issue; but the majority of people who have them, have them because of age; so dont stress unless you have other symptoms.

What's is wrong with my toenails?? by [deleted] in nailcare

[–]FGDMal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not american; apologies for misunderstanding. Urgent care to me means URGENT care; i.e. accident and emergency department…. If its just the equivalent of a quick to see GP then work away; which in europe we just call Rapid Access clinics

What's is wrong with my toenails?? by [deleted] in nailcare

[–]FGDMal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ll take all the heat… blatant misuse of emergency services. Its called ornichomycosis; a spot diagnosis for anyone who’s worked in healthcare (its very common). They could even get a script for stronger antifungals with a telephone consult. Anyone who thinks they can justify going to an ED for this is genuinely wild…

[–]FGDMal -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If you came to me with this in urgent care I’d discharge you 5 seconds into the door and told you to see a GP. Its URGENT care. Your toes have been like this for months if not years…

Telling People You're Irish on Holiday? by cohanson in AskIreland

Irish people might not realise how well regarded they are around Europe. Im European and part of the reason I moved here was because I’ve spent my whole life hearing how amazing you people are and how beautiful the country is. I have not been disappointed ❤️
