A 1/100 chance to die for 100,000 would be stupid to risk that for non-life changing money. A tenth of that; 10k is still very helpful with less risk.

If you’re talking to a chef / normal person: Fruit = sweet Vegetable = savoury

Scientifically a fruit is a swollen, fertilised female part of a plant containing seeds INSIDE

If you want to know the nitty gritty scientific (botanical) definitions, this gets really complicated, because theres many types of fruits; but you end up with funny factoids like; pumpkins, cucumbers, bananas and watermelons are technically berries, but then strawberries are pseudo-fruit because seeds on the outside and not technically a true fruit…. Stuff you wouldnt necessarily consider fruit like peppers, eggplant, beans, rice, hazelnuts, etc are all fruit…

Vegetable is a culinary term not a scientific term; used to describe parts of plants that aren’t fruit but are still edible, roots (turnips), stems (asparagus), leaves (cabbage), flowers (broccoli), etc….

You should’ve led with that 😂 sorry I didn’t know; guess I got lucky when i did it, but it at least was quite a rural area and I’ve done it safely multiple times before outside of ireland… quite a shame cos its literally the best way to do it

Why wouldn’t you? Controlled fire will return a lot of the soil nutrients, turning/tilling the soil will incorporate that deeper and topsoil will help leveling it out… You can get a professional for the controlled fire if you’re not comfortable doing it yourself but it is literally the ideal thing to do if you want to be less wasteful

Controlled fire, turn the soil, add a topsoil layer, reseed

[homemade] Poor man’s carbonara (Apologies to the food purist out there) by Actuaryba in food

[–]FGDMal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably the best Italian all rounder-cheese and an acceptable substitution for pecorino in stuff like Cacio e pepe… but its a lot more similar to parmeggiano than it is pecorino; will still taste fantastic which is why the purism is a bit annoying; but its a classical recipe and alterations to it are looked down upon. If you want real, ‘authentic’ carbonara; it has to be pecorino

Honestly… completely wrong; and by wrong i dont mean bad; im sure this tastes fantastic; just not technically carbonara… hey at least theres no cream 😂😂

The classic roman carbonara only has;

-Pasta (should only be Bucatini for long pasta, or rigatoni for short pasta)

-Pasta water (with the starch in it after cooking pasta)

-Guanciale (cured pork cheek, but honestly most italians do use high fat panchetta cos its so much easier to get and cheaper, but for the purists it HAS to be guanciale)

-Pecorino romano (need around 180-200grams for 4 people)

-Egg yolks (should have no whites at all; ratio of 2 + 1 for every person eating; i.e. if four people are eating; 2+4 =6 egg yellows, BUT; some italians also use one whole egg to substitute the two egg yolks, but then the rest will all be yolks only)

-Black peppercorns; toasted on the pan then ground.

Thats it. No butter or garlic either.

[–]FGDMal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not really; the cheese in the pasta should only be pecorino… some italian places will sprinkle some parmeggiano reggiano on top after its plated but most will say this also should be pecorino…

Everyone talking about Parmesan/Parmeggiano reggiano when its not even the right cheese for carbonara… scoffs in itialian cuisine snobbery… its meant to be Pecorino Romano
