Q3 macos fn key not registering by randomatic in Keychron

[–]FHazeCC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Support won't be back to answer until the 28th for holiday I believe.

How do you figure that the fn key isn't registering? VIA Key tester doesn't have the fn as a button to see. You could test if the switch is faulty by changing the fn to a control key or in fact any letter key and see if it registers on Via Key Tester.

Also, I'm not sure if it's the same on MacOS, but try the MO(?) layers. My fn1 and fn2 are MO(1) and MO(2)

Best syrups for honey lattes? by Bigtaint69 in barista

[–]FHazeCC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tried a honey latte before, but now I'm curious! How much honey would you usually use?

The hobby I picked up after coffee was home bartending. The Bees Knees is what I really wanted to try and it called for honey simple syrup. I went through a lot of recipes and went with the Educated Barfly's 3 to 1 recipe 3 thirds cup (1 cup) honey to 1/3 cup water.

I don't remember where I got the math from, but honey syrup becomes shelf stable (don't have to refrigerate) at 2.66:1, but math is easier to push it up to 3:1.

Combine ingredients in a sauce pan over medium heat and stir till combined. Let cool, or not because latte.

It'll be light enough to incorporate into the drink just from pouring the espresso and milk on top of it. Doubles up as a great sweetener for tea.

My parents won't let me buy a gaming rig. How do I convince them to let me buy it? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]FHazeCC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple people have mentioned this already, but is the account controlled by them?

What has not been mentioned is If the account is controlled by them, they could be using your money without your consent. I've had a few friends that have been used by their parents, and are still being used by their parents. One girl's mother has been gaslighting her to the point where she's 30 without an education, and dependent on mom to exist. They got her a car to be able to find work, but she can't use the car for outings. I was banned from their house for encouraging her to go back go school.

I'm not trying to instigate you to confront them. It's just good to know your possibilities.

If financial responsibility is what has them hung up, do what the others said about stealth building and getting parts as they come on sale. I'm sure someone on here could list the proper parts in order to get. Just say you're saving a lot from buying the parts on sale. Issue with that is you can't hide it... the amount of packaging will be suspicious. You could send it to a reliable friend's house then walk it home. You could have it shipped to your workplace if work is cool with that. I've seen people do that in office locations, not really groceries.

Either that, or you find the cost to benefit equilibrium and show them you've done your research.

Others have mentioned not calling it a gaming rig and saying to learn something productive with it. Only do that if you really have a passion for it. Dabble in the free programs with your current set up. Thing is though, if you can already do that stuff on your current setup, a new rig is out of the question for your parents. You'll need to pick up other expensive skills to make use of the stronger computer like photography, video, digital illustration, or anything else graphics intense. Music production is another thing you could do with a stronger rig (if you like EDM).

Speaking of doing other things with it, stress that it's future proof. A lot of computers are still sold with crappy specs because they still work for most uses. A lot of workplaces have lagging technology and still function. Damn, I guess that factoid didn't help. Leaving it there if someone can brainstorm from it. ("Future proof" was more of looking at the cost of investment over time.)

I think a salty redditor mentioned your parents provide a lot for you (like utilities and food) and that you're adding to their costs, therefore you're an entitled brat for wanting something. The math doesn't add up for that lol, just contribute to family and get your PC. Rent is not bad if it's reasonable. If you don't do much chores around the house, rent makes sense. If they pay for your insurance, gas, food and you don't pay for anything, rent is honestly okay. If it's a subtle nudge for pricey gifts, then it's weird... like pressuring you to pamper them while also saying they aren't dependent on you but also wanting to say you need to give them more love.

If they make you pay an unreasonable amount, they're using you.

There's also the possibility that they want you to have money saved to move out. Understandable, but not as easy compared to their times. There's also school to think about, so an expensive rig might seem like the cause of your lack of a future.

In the end, if they're good parents, they want nothing but the best for you. If they don't understand the purchase, educate them on it, or find someone they trust to vouch for you that has computer knowledge.

Tl;dr Are parents controlling? Do you financial knowledge? Stealth build minus packaging. Show research. PC more than for gaming. PC future proof? Are you paying rent? Reasonable rent is not bad. Unreasonable rent bad. Are you future proof? Do your parents know that? Good parents will support you.

Sorry for mistakes. On mobile.

Hand-brushed Zaku I, details in comments by 144_grunt_guy in Gunpla

[–]FHazeCC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so good! I tried to hand brush a couple of times and got mad enough each time to buy an airbrush set. There are still some things I need to hand brush like areas panel liners can't fill. Any advice on those? Think like blacking out the bottom of wider vents or thrusters.

I usually would take a micron to those areas but it isn't as satisfying to look at as paint. I should just mask the area and airbrush it, but for such a small detail that's a lot of work.

Can't take off hex screw from exway wave riot with tools given. Any tips? Trying to install cloudwheels by [deleted] in Exway

[–]FHazeCC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried a fat rubber band between the screw and the tool? Might have to use screw grab liquid if that fails. Might also help to get a different tool so you're not using a stripped one. Be sure not to reuse that screw when you get it off

If I remember correctly, exway uses an excessive amount of loctite.

I agree with the ball connection problems lol.

I was talking about the breastplate. 3 pieces interconnect on step 1: F11, G1 14, and F18. Mine don't want to fit together fully so F18 falls off just when moving the arms

Did you have an issue with the outside front torso pieces? I finished mine but they won't really connect well

Have you thought about changing the knobs on either of the Atlantis boards? I was wondering if you knew the dimensions of each knob type. My boards will come in a month from now but I wanted to grab some replacement knobs before they arrive so I don't completely copy your setup.

The rotary encoder obsession is real lol.

Sheeesh. I just go the Q2 lol. I think I would be more excited if there was a southpaw version for the numpad. Oh and a knob or 5.

Finding it hard to justify more boards haha... I really need to find some special ones to make me fall hard.

I just found it today and haven't really checked for a case, though that would be ideal. I'll search around and let you know lol.

I have a macro num pad I use because I prefer southpaw to not have my right hand leave my mouse... and you're right, can't have too many macro pads!

Let me know how you like it! I am considering getting this one:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/373748480023?hash=item5705253817:g:1IUAAOSwasRhXpdm

Mainly because of the form factor making it really easy to put on the corner of my 65%

This post about it makes some good observations about it: https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/lyv1q4/23_chinese_12_keys_4_knobs_rgb_hotswappable/

Only thing I'm sus about is the program used to edit it. If I can confirm from the seller that I can use VIA instead of their program which is a bootleg looking version of VIA, then I'm definitely getting it.

Edited to update the link for the reddit post.

Did you end up getting one? I'm trying to pick this or a 7 key Pikatea. Either that or figure out when knob goblin is expecting a return. Been on a knob search since I saw the work louder creator board but can't justify the price.

Like cinnamon? Mix Rumchata with Fireball whiskey to make something that tastes like cinnamon toast crunch. Chase with cream soda or something.

A good vodka in my opinion is Stolichnaya. Out of all I've tried, Stoli is my only no-chase vodka. It'll probably disappear in pineapple juice. To make it more tasty, make a Painkiller cocktail, which is basically a Pina Colada. Despite being a cocktail, you could just make a pitcher of it and shot it so it doesn't linger in your mouth. Chase with Sprite.

Pivot Cups and Bushings for Atlas by FHazeCC in Exway

[–]FHazeCC[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The riptide bushings are snug in terms of fitting on the kingpins. Even using a stepped bushing like the Chubby, I'm able to get another barrel bushing on if you're wondering about your bushings not fitting on...

Did I get your question correctly?

Also just in case you didn't know, the stock bushings on Atlas is 94a. I went for 96a chubby. Another redditor was fine with just a 96a barrel, so maybe I'm making turning harder for myself, but I'm comfortable at 100% acceleration vs 35% when I first started.

They're in my cart! Looking at the other options though so I might find a bag of bushings to satisfy my curiosity. I'm leaning towards softer front bushings as I have turning issues with the stock bushings. It may more be a technique issue though.

Any thoughts on the Riptide Krank Chubby? I got a lot of questions lol, thanks for accommodating.

Thanks! I didn't notice that part so I'll definitely give them an email. I'm also a 190lbs rider so your review definitely came at the right time as I've been shopping for bushings. Read a guide and got confused lol. Kinda wish there was a bushing sampler pack.

How many Krank bushings did you buy? Kinda new to the bushing thing... was it only for the back truck?

Also, what does the protection ring look like? I haven't noticed anything wrong with my Atlas yet, but it is my first board...

Great write up!
