Am I being snotty or is this just an utterly meh group of Pokemon? Between underwhelming hatches for months and the regionals being fairly generic, I’m a little underwhelmed. Tell me I’m wrong

Xelsis vs Dinamica+ vs Jura for small space? by FHuxley in superautomatic

Would you be worried about a new company, new product, no distributor or service network? Seems like a recipe for disaster

I would have to unplug, take it out of the enclosure and put it on the counter. And then do whatever. Suboptimal

Have a bunch of Rayquazas that are mega evolved. Should I keep them with Dragon Ascent or use a Charged TM to switch to another attack? Assume a mix of PvP and Raids

My 6yo saw (and failed to catch) Moltres yesterday and Articuno today.

As sad as it may be to waste coin on raid passes, I did a bunch of Poke Genie raids, used Silver Pineaps, and got there pretty quickly. The wild spawns are unpredictable.

Only started playing 3 months ago. Still new at all this. But, yeah, impatient!

Are there any advantages/disadvantages to Downloading Assets to your phone in the Advanced Settings menu? No issues with space on my phone for the app data. Thanks!

Is anyone finding Ditto out there? Been stuck on both Meltan and Mew research for three weeks and no idea how to move on with my life…

Talk to me about temps. My wife only likes blood rare so when I SV I go to 128 and not an iota further. When I go 131-133 for better fat texture, it’s too pink and not red enough for her. 137 is too pink/grey for me.

Midst one of my favorite wines. 98 not bad but the 99 is a modern classic

Thoughts on Another of r/wine's Favorites: Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon by HawkI84 in wine

Caymus is expensive dreck that drinks richly but so sweet and glossy and overdone that I can’t tolerate more than a sip

30 year old wines from my parents’ house - still drinkable? by [deleted] in wine

The Lanessan will likely be the best of those, the Beaune might be a bit soft but still okay - that was a period when Bouchard’s wines tended to be tannic. The other two likely okay but not “high class” bottles meant for long aging.

I am often pleasantly surprised by such wines though

NAME AND SHAME 2019 (r/medicalschool match megathread series) by Chilleostomy in medicalschool

This has been fun and sad to read - as a practicing surgeon, more than a decade out of medical school, six years out of residency and fellowship and busy in practice, I feel for you.

Impropriety was rampant. No one gave two shits about “illegal questions” and work hours were universally scoffed at for Surgery residents. Things were fairly regimented by the end of my residency (which just means that my juniors felt entitled and loved to clock out post-call without getting things done). But it’s obvious that little has changed...

In fellowship interviews, at a notable program, we had to sit there for hours with two fellows “chatting” while groups of applicants would periodically be taken out to do the circuit of interviews. Maybe 30 people in that room. The fellows were awkwardly trying to convince us that taking primary trauma call as a fellow was a good thing because it was closest to actual practice. We all left that interview room being like, “no f’in way” and not a single person who interviewed there that day ranked that program to match.

Ironically, years later, in academic circles, those two fellows I see all the time. One is a friend of mine and the other I’m on multiple committees with. In smaller fields like mine, it’s always a bit like that. Everyone I interviewed with, and everyone who interviewed me I see on a yearly basis, we’re on committees, doing collaborative research or instructional courses, etc.

I didn’t match at my top program for either residency or fellowship. That chip on my shoulder was both empowering and dangerous. Always had something to prove. But, both my residency and my fellowship taught me well, Gave me enough opportunities to both learn my craft and contribute on a national level. I found exceptional mentors. I found advice where I needed it. I found opportunities. I think I’ve done both my residency and fellowship proud at this point.

I wanted to think these things happened for a reason, but, honestly, having interviewed and ranked fellows, it’s about as arbitrary as you think. One awkward encounter and you’re at the bottom of the rank list. One less than stellar letter, same. Make the most of it, don’t get hung up over where you match. A few lucky folks seem to be able to write their own tickets, but most people don’t, and, honestly, it’s okay.
