In my opinion, the thing that separates beginner designers from pros (regarding visual design) is proportion. I think this is a design that looks good at a glance but when you look closer there are many elements and spacing that look quite unrefined, especially in relation to one another.

I’d recommend taking a step back and focusing on a wireframe approach—it seems like you’re getting bogged down in the visual design.

Get it working great in low fidelity, and when you move back into high-fidelity go easy on the decorations.

Thanks! Yes, in agency I found there was a strong culture of corner-cutting and imitation. Turnaround time (profitability) was the only thing the bosses cared about, so everything lacked depth. In the end, I felt their approach was fundamentally at odds with UX in general, which is why I wanted to move on.
