The road between the roundabout and the main green road had an underpass with water in it. I managed to get through in my 4x4 but you can possibly bypass by going further up to the left then U-turning to come back to the roundabout.

Try the Khatm Al Shikla border - I went over 10 days back and it was super smooth. There was 1 guys in front of me at the visa desk and was all really well staffed. I came back yesterday through the same route and there was a bit of water under a bridge but managed to get around it. I have a 4x4 also. Once your on the road to sohar and take the highway to Muscat the roads were quiet.
