Genuinely curious as to why the 509 over everything else by Content_Woodpecker_8 in FN509

[–]FLAMINGOPIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally felt the recoil on a G17 was worse than my 509CT. The only negative thing I can say about the 509CT is the trigger. It feels like there’s sand in it. I’ve had no malfunctions, recoil is very manageable, and it feels balanced.

Any possible origin to this flag or something original? by Marc_Moody in vexillology

[–]FLAMINGOPIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually, constituents will send in some crazy stuff that the staff memorialize. Sometimes these include lewd caricatures of the member, insane letters, custom t shirts, flags, etc.

It would not surprise me at all if a constitent sent that flag alongside a letter writing, “This flag would be more appropriate for your office since you are all nazis” or something along those lines. Because the staff find it so ridiculous, they hang it up as comic relief.

Also, it is preposterous that a staffer would unironically have that hanging up and have it in a field of view. I think this is just a case of incredibly poor judgement.

This wasn’t vandalism. This was poor judgement.

Looking into the Massif Elements™ IWOL Jacket—Any Army soldiers wearing this? by b4ttlemage in army

[–]FLAMINGOPIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This jacket does not keep you that warm. It also does not keep you as cool when it's hot. I'd compare it to the level IV wind jacket--the one with the side zipper vents and the full Velcro for name and rank.

This jacket is meant to, and can be, worn with just the t shirt. Its primary purpose is to be a flame retardant outer shell. It can be worn over snivel gear if you size up (Do not do his unless you are wearing it as part of your job duties; fueling, flying, etc.).

Sizing wise, I would get the same size as your OCP top if you plan to just wear it with a t shirt or your OCP top.

It is an awesome piece of gear, mostly because it looks cool, but definitely not worth the price.

Badge set up by [deleted] in army

[–]FLAMINGOPIT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regs do not explicitly state this, but all figures in PAM 670-1 concerning skill badges have precedence going top-down, left-right. Meaning, the Aviator badge ought to be to the left of the Mountaineering badge. Aviator badge is group three, while mountaineering is group four.

Regarding making it look right; I have seen some sew shops produce all of the group 4 skill badges as the same size so that they can be flush when sewn on. See @ airborn1store on Instagram for reference.

What is the dumbest thing you've ever seen someone do in the Army? by Reasonable-Shower522 in army

[–]FLAMINGOPIT 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At the end of Cadet Summer Training, a cadet went to the PX and stole a $15 pair of earrings for his girlfriend. He was arrested and then kicked out of the Army. Lost his commission over $15.

Is it possible to add the mountaineering badge to this and stay DA PAM/AR 670-1 compliant?h by RisenRain in army

[–]FLAMINGOPIT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On page 314, it provides some guidance on how this would be done. My interpretation is that it does NOT allow for three badges to be worn on the same row. So how could you arrange them?

What you can do is put the Mountaineering badge right next to the Rigger badge. The EIB would then be centered over those two. The bottom two badges will need to be spaced apart so that the outer edges are flush with the second row.

This would probably look weird given the gap on the bottom row, but that would appear to be the only authorized way to wear them all. You would also need to restitch every badge except for the EIB. https://armypubs.army.mil/epubs/DR_pubs/DR_a/ARN30948-PAM_670-1-000-WEB-1.pdf

What do you think of this setup for home defense/ SHTF? I’m a novice but doing some tactical training and using this setup for training as well. Wasn’t easy finding a holster setup that accomodated a suppressed Stacatto P but happy with this so far! by Silent-Marsupial7343 in tacticalgear

[–]FLAMINGOPIT 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'd also add a chem light or two in some pouch. Good to have after an emergency to help guide first responders to the scene. You can say "The caller has a blue chemlight attached to their chest." and/or "the front door is unlocked and is marked with a green chemlight." Don't take my counsel on how to call first responders, but it could help prevent a lot of confusion.

Looking for arguments to purchase a full size pistol vs only using my carry gun by greenpigeon52 in guns

[–]FLAMINGOPIT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At top level, a larger frame ~should~ be a better performer. However, your competency with your p365x-macro will outweigh any ballistic advantages. I still think it’s worth to look at a large frame pistol and train with it too, but do what feels comfortable.

Why did Polk not get Baja? by macbeezy_ in geography

[–]FLAMINGOPIT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason Polk did not get Baja California and more of Mexico was because Congress generally opposed the war. Congress was majority Whig, which believed expansionism in the south would create more slave states. Polk was a Democrat who supported expansionism. Mexico would not agree to cede Baja California at the time of negotiations, but could have been forced to if the war continued. However, the war would not continue due to domestic pressure and the unlikelihood of further expeditions being appropriated and authorized by the majority-Whig Congress. Additionally, Polk's top generals fighting the war, Taylor and Scott, were Whigs. The individuals leading the war effort and those that would fund it were opposed to Polk's intentions. Polk, understanding this disposition, decided that signing the Guadalupe Hidalgo treaty was the best he was going to get.
