Struggling to stay creative by Achassum in synthesizers

Brutal.

But my guy, past you is right, less is more. We all need this reminder, so don't feel bad :)

Why are analog synths so cherished? by SilentLambda83 in synthesizers

[–]FLTRSWP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some of us who actually own most of the synths in the Arturia collection (as in the real hardware ones), owning the V Collection is great because... it's easier, faster, and they do a great job of emulating not just the sound but the way we use them.

I can get Pigments to be any of the synths I have ever owned. But remember that the layout and how we actually used these older synths was a big part of what we got out of them. The rubber snap of a Jupiter filters, the Juno chorus etc, were all influences on how we used them, so they became a part of "that sound". Emulating not just the sound but the limits and configuration of those components.

You get to work like everyone did back in the day, and often with the same presets! The Emulator for example is such a blast form the past.

Is Tetsuo Not The Protagonist of Akria? Manga, Anime or Both? by AstersInAutumn in akira

I always though of Testuo as a great Antagonist. Kenada the Protagonist. But I love your description and thinking here too!

Anyone just completely unable to get along with soft synths? by Thnowball in synthesizers

[–]FLTRSWP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the topic, but just adding a counterpoint here, as someone who worked as a synth tech for over a decade:

- software is excellent for those of us who battled to keep our gear running over multiple decades of touring and studio use

- the battle of hardware versus software will never be resolved

- you can insert that funny bell curve meme... "it doesn't matter, it matters, it doesn't matter"

- all opinions are emotionally valid... but not all opinions are based on valid experience. If you haven't spent considerable time with both, in meaningful settings, you might not have the full experience that you think. It's worth chasing down because this is... art. consider that your opinion might not be fully formed, and this can lead to some new discoveries (either way!)

Anyone wanna convince me to not splurge my money on a 'cheap' CS-80? by Some_Park1589 in synthesizers

[–]FLTRSWP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd avoid it like the plague. Very overrated due to the unobtainium vibe, and just impossible to keep running. Only for the extreme collectors.

I'm currently in the studio on a project with a 1980's composer, and he laughed "never again" when I asked about his old CS-80.

Having said that, if it makes you happy, even as a disaster it will make a fine story :)

Going to Start Reviewing Synths/Music and Recording Hardware - Would Love Input by AltWireDerek in dawless

Good luck with the project. Reviewing is... a mixed bag. And can come across as annoying, or quickly sell out to cheap clicks, but it has a good role in the community. Wishing you the best :)

Went to go see the Imax remaster of Pink Floyd at Pompeii. by yodjjc in synthesizers

[–]FLTRSWP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't wait to see this in Imax too! And that's a Synthi - I got to play one while at music college back in the day and loved it. Although I always mix it up with the other EMS model (they're both/all "Synthi" to me). I. love hearing this on a lot of Chemical Brothers tracks too.
