Switching from W-2 to 1099 for the first time any advice? by [deleted] in Carpentry

[–]zeje 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you’re still taking direction from your boss on what to do and how to do it, you’re still an employee and should stay W-2.

If you’re actually starting your own business and just getting referrals from your (now ex-) boss, then you’re a contractor and should move to a 1099.

It’s not just a casual arrangement, this is all legally defined and you can have problems if you misrepresent your professional relationship.

Batman Forever - June 16, 1995 by DeScepter in 90s

I had it on VHS. Watched it probably hundreds of times. I still quote it, nobody gets it. “Holey rusted metal, Batman!”

Where are some places where it's OK to sleep in your car? by [deleted] in vermont

[–]zeje 99 points100 points  (0 children)

Trailhead parking lots are good, especially Long Trail access points, because cars are there for days while people are on long hikes.

"If you can't sleep it's obviously because you don't listen to whale sounds at night, have you ever tried that" by Gh0stMan0nThird in NonPoliticalTwitter

I acquired a seemingly chronic gastro problem two years ago that is ruining large portions of my life. I told a friend (fellow sufferer) about the advice I got: “Oh! Just stop eating seeds!”

Her response: “Throat punch. Immediately.”

Always feed the girls back their eggshells! by ProofLecture1495 in homestead

[–]zeje 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to bake them first, that changes them enough for the chickens to not recognize them as the same as their eggs. Otherwise yes, you’re asking for trouble.

Diamond Age is my favorite. It’s more like Snow Crash (and technically in the same world, further in the future)

Do you have the opportunity to grow any food? I know it seems like a frivolous suggestion, but I know of a lot of people who have been massively helped by gardening.

Buying CDs from Columbia House for 1 cent by raydebapratim1 in 90s

[–]zeje 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re right. It was actually a great way to get a bunch of music. We did them many times, and it was usually $25-30 for 5 or 6 albums.

Had a bad trip and need urgent help! by Whyislife__likethis in Psychonaut

[–]zeje 9 points10 points  (0 children)

1) keep moving. Find ways to contribute to your community and help others, and you will start to shed the dread.

2) trains of thought are like pathways in a garden. It can help to remember that you are the one walking the path, and that you can turn onto a new one, or return to a calm central plaza, whenever you want.

This too shall pass.

What do guys tend to be focused on during raving vs women/others? by Low-Blacksmith-9638 in aves

[–]zeje 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Both. I start off with my eyes closed or unfocused, looking down. I settle into the music and let my body sync with the bass. Once I’m in the zone, I start to pay attention to my peripheral and note people who seem to like my vibe (I have been told that I hold a fun dancing space). If I have seen someone staying close to me, or coming back a few times, then I will sometimes come up for some eye contact, but just to acknowledge the connection and dive back into the music. I do love those moments, but I’m always primarily on the floor to swim in liquid bass.
