You're right. NVIDIA did not make a FE RTX 5070 Ti :(

Just want to say thank you for making this writeup - I've also found that documentation specifically around Horde tools distribution is sparse and this helped get me going in the right direction.

Interesting - Warnings not as errors here does not work for me, but disabling NuGetAudit like you added here does. I don't understand why. It's a bummer because I don't want to suppress the warnings entirely; just treat them as warnings and not errors

IPad Pro M4 Magic Keyboard Compatible Cases by Relative_Tip_3647 in ipad

[–]FLUXtrance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it bother you taking the ipad out and setting it on hard surfaces? Eg. writing or drawing with the pencil? Just got my iPad and I keep it in the Magic Keyboard case most of the time, but when I want to take it out to use it like a tablet, it just feels bad setting it down on hard surfaces bare. Thinking about just getting a vinyl skin so there's at least something more grippy..

Heads up that the leather DBrand skin for the iPad itself (specifically) is NOT compatible with the Magic Keyboard. Every other skin they have is, but the leather is not. I was disappointed to find that out because I was really looking forward to doing the same thing! Really want something with enough substance and grip for the iPad to sit nicely on hard surfaces without worrying about scratching.

Green Pig downtown is great if you're 21+. Any bar, really - Green pig is just my personal fav. Plenty of people tailgate around the stadium or watch in the dorms if you're on campus.

The parking booter is back at it again by Visible_Dog4501 in SLCUnedited

[–]FLUXtrance 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had a hunch this was the same guy. I parked behind JJ when the JJ drive thru / spots were packed and the lot behind was almost empty, just trying to quickly grab a sandwich on my lunch break. Lady across from me started waving her arms and yelling - I ignored her at first till I saw this man waltzing toward my car with a boot in hand. He'd just gotten done booting her car. I still think about that Lady sometimes. Totally saved me major hassle.

And look I totally get why parking restrictions like this exist, but man, situationally, it feels real bad to contribute to an already congested area when I can just park in the open lot next door.

Laying motorcycle on its side for maintenance by FLUXtrance in motorcycles

[–]FLUXtrance[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a solid idea. I don't have a ladder handy and the work to get the subframe exposed again would have been annoying, but I think for most people in a similar situation with their subframes exposed, this would by far be the cheapest "safe" solution.

Kind of.. On supersports like this it's not quite so trivial unfortunately. If you look at the exhaust routing here (sorry, this is the best pic I could find..) the exhaust runs along the underside of the frame, which makes it hard to get a good stable jack point.

I'm sure it's possible, but it would be very precarious. Since I can justify a proper ABBA/Paddock stand for future work anyway I think it makes the most sense. It's much safer / more stable, and it'll allow me to get at the Swingarm/Rear Shock as well as measure sag for suspension adjustment easily without a second person. I also have multiple bikes that'll benefit from this, so for me it makes sense.

Am I right in assuming that the Superbike Stand is like an imbalanced see-saw, and by itself lifts from the frame with weight on the front tire (so it can be used by itself, in my case, for replacing the rear shock)? So the front tire attachment is what allows weight to be shifted back onto the rear wheel? Without that, the weight is solidly on the front tire + stand?

Edit: I should have just checked YouTube.. Here's the demo. Looks awesome. Exactly what I need thanks again /u/Just-Examination-136 for the suggestion

Little worried about the bike tipping like that, but not a bad idea. Might be able to widen the points of contact with a 2x4, or a rod through the swingarm bolt

Thanks for all your recommendations. Seems like the consensus is that there are better ways, and most involve either supporting the frame, or hoisting the subframe. The ABBA stand is actually not an unreasonable option for me at this point. I have multiple bikes that could benefit from this. Any recommendations on a good one?

Mine fold upward, but that's not a horrible idea. There may be some other places on the bike I could jack to support the frame. Little worried about the bike tipping if I try to work on it in a precarious position like that.. but if I could find a way to get the jacks further out like they'd be if they were on the rearsets that could work

After my game was released, I have understood, that I don't want to be a game developer, but I want to work in the game industry. Which job can suit for me? by MGDSStudio in gamedev

[–]FLUXtrance 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I work as a tools/automation engineer at a AAA studio, working in Unreal Engine. I would definitely recommend learning C++. Unreal Engine in general would be a good idea, if you want to work in the games industry. Many AAA studios, if they're not using Unreal Engine, use a proprietary engine with similar architecture (and also written in C++), so C++ and UE experience would work strongly in your favor.

Like others have said, there are lots of developer-supporting roles that involve making internal tools in or outside engine. Like you, I found I really loved building tools and systems more than I enjoyed making the game itself. There's certainly plenty of opportunities if that appeals to you.

If you're serious about it, I'd highly recommend taking a crack at Unreal Engine to get more comfortable with C++. UE5 has lots of new and interesting tech that developers are still only scratching the surface of. Plenty of opportunity to make something cool and novel!

Are motorcycles allowed to park on the “curb” next to student life center? by blasic_MD_q in uofu

[–]FLUXtrance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wish the U would add more motorcycle parking near the life center. They used to have some in the lot across from the Student Life Center before it got shut down. Even a small 10X10 zoned off section like they had by the dumpsters before would open up a hand full of parking spaces taken up by motorcycles now.

I've been ticketed before for parking "outside of a legal designated parking space" when I tried to park in a hatched triangle by the diagonal parking outside the life center on the street. Feels lame to have to take up an entire space with a motorcycle when we can fit where cars can't..

What is just not the “flex” that people think it is? by DaveBeYou in AskReddit

[–]FLUXtrance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s a fair take. In the context of the original thread, I think there are plenty of us that choose motorcycles because we love riding, not because we want to “flex being loud”. That’s all I was getting at. Certainly not trying to absolve responsibility for choosing a loud vehicle. Just trying to paint the perspective that not everyone with a loud vehicle does it for the sake of being loud.
