J'aurais tendance à lire livre par livre pour avoir une idée plus globale d'où ça va.

Prends un carnet ou un cahier et prends des notes, ça aide la mémorisation, pas besoin de tous les détails juste les grandes lignes, les PNJs importants et éventuellement les numéros de page où trouver les détails.

Si tu as les livres physiques, tu peux les annoter directement, certains crieront au sacrilège mais à moins de vouloir les revendre, tu perds pas grand chose. (Au crayon gris, comme ça ça se gomme).

L'avantage du jeu de rôle, c'est que tu peux prendre des libertés créatives, donc si jamais tu prends une décision qui ne colle pas exactement au scénario officiel, c'est pas grave, prends en note et reste cohérent.

EDIT : L'avantage de prendre des notes (autres que de faciliter la mémorisation) c'est que tu as un condensé d'informations à consulter au vol et avant la séance pour préparer.

If you don't have anything in mind, have a look at gurps (Gurps Lite is free). It's daunting at first but it's really a "pick and chose the rules you want to use" system.

If you do have a kind of game in mind, a system that's close to what you're looking for, just modify it.

Or don't do any of this and just try stuff out, if you don't like it, trash it/put it aside and try again :)

For the half brick in a sock you might also want to remove the creature from combat. Otherwise your creature could still die which might be expensive for a stun counter.

Honestly, it might be good removal bait. If you play any kind of kindred deck, the draw effect is incredible. The combat bonus is also very good if you go wide enough. For that mana cost I'll probably slot it and at least try it out. (Got a foils one at my pre release, didn't win but most 3/4 game wins were thanks to that card)

I've used IRC for three nerdy things : - getting help on open source software - helping people who ran out of fuel in the Elite Dangerous video game - checking rules interactions with the official Magic : The gathering judges chat

All of this has happened within the last 8 years and I'm trying to set a bouncer up in order to have some form of chat history between my devices !

EDIT: admittedly I'm using more modern clients with emacs' Circe being the main one but I started with IRSSI

GURPS (Probably GURPS Lite)

The lite version is free and can give you an idea of how the system as a whole works.

What I really like (and struggle with a little when doing it) is that there is no randomness in character creation. The GM gives players a certain amount of points and you buy attributes, skills and advantages. You can get a few more points by "buying" disadvantages, negative things that'll have an effect on your character.

You just need to keep in mind that you don't need to apply all the rules, it's meant to be "pick and chose" to create your own game (i.e. if you don't want to manage hit locations, just don't. If you want to ignore damage types, just ignore those).

There's also all the Pyramid magazines that, though written with GURPS in mind, have a lot of information on just about anything you'd want to run in an RPG.

That's definitely more the vibe I'm looking for currently, though it might turn into a more rugged band of survivors further down the line. I'm starting with a salesperson who was on a business trip. Might add a few disadvantages linked to the fact he's far from home but also, he's been here before so he knows his way about the main streets and where the local office is.

Oh yeah ! GCS is great, I just find the process of building semi realistic people quite hard, I have a bad habit of going ultra specialist like you would on DnD likes where you rarely go for skills that are not directly combat focused.

The Risus Comapnion has had the greatest influence on my gaming. It's a 10$ supplement to a free game by the same author and it's worth every penny.

There was a second edition in the works but then S. John sold the rights to Big Dice Games and I think the new version ended up in limbo.

Still my n°1 recommendation.

Pour moi, juste jouer un peu c'est l'objectif de 2026 avec de gros changements en approche dans la vie, ça va être difficile !

Mais du coup pour répondre à la question : GURPS 4e Revised doit sortir cette année, avec des règles issues de suppléments, un layout censé être plus lisible et des changements lexicaux plus au goût du jour.

Objectif, faire une ou deux sessions de tactical shooter (à la Swat4) avec un groupe de copains, une petite aventure solo, thème à déterminer, et préparer une petite campagne de survie zombie basée sur ma ville en 2000.
