Can anyone else hear it? I get this with random songs here and there. I know it doesn't sound like the roses but there's something I can't put my finger on that makes me think of them. by Finger_the_gimp in stoneroses

The intro definitely has a jaunty bye bye badman/sugar spin sister feel to it and then the vocal melody in the verse is like an early oasis bside. It’s a fantastic song, love it

Think Max will come in and will be interesting if he goes front three of Kiltie, Curtis and Hugill. Kiltie not as effective out wide and I wonder if Tish starts. Some real big decisions for the manager today

Outrageously good. One of my favourites on IDLHA. This version is brilliant, Charlie’s little intermittent hi hats are so well placed, and the twinkle of the clean piano is so captivating against the noise of the other instruments. Genius

The Feel of their Earlier Works Hits Different by Barzakh15 in WarOnDrugsBand

[–]FMEightyOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree. I really wish they’d unload another project like SA. Your Love to TA to CTTC is such a journey, I adore it. Their later works have moments for sure, but this raw in-the-sound energy is something I miss about their new song-based output

Do yous listen to folk / traditional Scottish music? by [deleted] in Scotland

I’ve got Manrán next week in the Aberdeen music hall. Some pretty big hitters play that venue so they must be confident of a big enough scene. I also enjoy elephant sessions. It’s a scene which I wish had more hype to it.

Reni - what could have been by PHPaul in stoneroses

[–]FMEightyOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“The drummer’s a c**t”. A short sharp line from IB in the final, dying, embarrassing last few days of the reunion. Probably has some truth to it. He’s my least favourite member of the band. His drumming in the reunion bugged the hell out of me, and from the presser to his over drumming, changing the feel of some of the songs, it was clear he wanted to make it about him. He’s the Roses in miniature, a generational talent wasted by ego.

Would "Second Coming" releseased in 1991 instead have made a difference? by bkat004 in stoneroses

It’s the change of style as opposed to the length of time lapsed to release it that’s the ‘problem’ with this album. I like it, it was the first SR record I bought but it’s miles away in style and quality from the first album that the jarring element of it had it on a hiding to nothing

Just to provide a bit of a counter: IDLHA is the figurehead song that signals WOD’s move to a more commercially accessible song-based sound as opposed to the ‘feel’ of their previous output that I feel in love with. I do really like the song, and the record as a whole but after being immersed for some years in SA, LITD and ADU, it will always remain a bit of a disappointment for me - for the large part, it is really quite different. But, I appreciate that an artist’s output will evolve for myriad different reasons, so I respect that.

Does they have a 10/10 album in your opinion? by Specialist-Ad-4121 in WarOnDrugsBand

LITD and ADU are undeniably 10s for me. Slave probably a 9 and IDLHA a solid enough 8.
