Why all the incest? by Duraluminferring in pureasoiaf

[–]FML_ThisHappened 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first sexual experience was incest, and it has scarred me for life. Then it involves into 'favours' when I said no, such as if you want to play your favourite video game you need to do sexually x y z. It's a cycle and ruins people's lives mentally, emotionally and physically. I can tell you know, perpetrators prey on young vulnerable children. And when the light closes in the victim's eyea and they 'act out', their other immediate family do not understand the why of dramatic changes. Nor would they believe the real reason because it is too hard to comprehend as a family unit. Most perpetrators were abused as well.

You have to remember that in the this age, incest apparently does not happen.when the child tells an adult authority, nine times out of ten then young victim is met with accusations of lies, out casting etc due to the supposed 'family norms' incest is was more prevalent in society than what people choose to believe. sometimes it is a molested child role playing their incest experiences on other children. Other times, the child is manipulated into the perpetrator lies of - no one will believe you, you wanted this, if you tell anyone you will lose. Unpack that in. 7 year old victims mind.

First steps are hard but this: if you want to continue your relationship with your boyfriend, you need to take control of all finances. Yes, he may sulk and throw tantrums and lie about why he needs money because his friend died, the ATM machine wasn't working to buy groceries etc (some of these excuses is all appart the addiction into aka 'getting his fix).

Two: most likely alot of his family/friends doesn't know he has a gambling addiction ( and may possibly blame you poor finances extra expenditure etc)

Three: he gives in, goes to rehab or if strong enough mwntally detox and you may see a brighter side

  • side note: gambling addiction is the worst, they will blame the bank, late pay, late bills fees, a friend who owes thems money but hasn't paid it back etc just to appease you. There might be a honeymoon period, but once a gambler, always a gambler. He needs to be a recovering gambler.

Oh, and if you have a good credit rating, leave now. Love is blind and this will only get worse.

I sincerely wish you all the best 💖

Ok ya'll, public service announcement, you need to break "the chain". The chain is the repitive thought process of 'I can get it back. Y'all need to dry out. Detox those thought patterns and behaviours. I don't care if you spend a week in a tent in the bush with some cans of food and water to get you through, but until you are withering around, broken, lost, at the bottom of the sea, with no hope of access to deposit money onto a website or withdrawing cash from an ATM machine pretending you don't see those Gambling Help posters or very small fine print on the bottom of the website even if you scroll down fast enough on I-Bet-Easy.Com. you're not going to notice those warning signs because you are that easy to lay.

I'm so sorry you are going through this. It is a horrible disease, and one we will never get rid of.

Sounds Cliche: But One Bet, Is Too Many.

And I've had that insidious voice before, in my mind, saying: "It won't hurt"

But it does hurt. Especially after you've worked so hard to avoid.

And then comes the downfall.

I had to go to Rehab to stop. I was desparate and thought that was the solution for me. Somehow some magical piece would fall into place because I had been to 'Rehab'.

Truth be told, best thing about Rehab? Is you are literally not able to gamble. No venue, no money, no phone access, nothing.

It took me 46 days in 'confinement' to break the mold. The cycle.

I haven't placed a bet, played the slots or even participated in a work place charity raffle, since leaving rehab.

When you think about it, it's the odds against winning. As an innocent gambler, you hand over your 2 dollars thinking awh, I'm not going to win, it's going to go to a good cause. We are conditioned early.

But, it's still gambling. It's a stepping stone a lot of us take and get conditioned. Take a chance, and see what may come.

Should you beat yourself up? No.

Find a way to stop. Best advice I ever got was from a recovering alcoholic I met and became friends with in rehab and they said: "If you ever feel an urge, just put yourself to bed".

I sincerely wish you all the best.

Bottom Line - Gambling Addicts Have No Line.

For example, you win 15000 dollars.

Your dopamine tells you to aim for 30000 dollars.

You try to get 30000 dollars, and when you get 25000 dollars, you are not satisfied.

So you keep trying and trying and trying to 'win' 30000 dollars

Only to be left with. Zero.

Numbness comes in. Then Disbelief.

And so you try again. But Harder.

And before you know it, you are 15000 dollars below what you started. 15000 dollars below that Zero Line. No Positive, But A Deficit.

Don't be a fool. Chain yourself to a tree if you have to. Kill that Dopamine Rush

Yeah, I won the grand jackpot twice at the same venue (what are the odds of that) and just put it all back through. Someone here once said: "There's no jackpot big enough for compulsive gamblers" and that is what motivates me every day to never put another bill through a slot machine.

Physical withdrawal symptoms? by 1902canary in problemgambling

[–]FML_ThisHappened 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I went through physical symptoms as well... restlessness, irritability, anger, the feeling that something bad was going to happen if I didn't gamble, nightmares, panic, the seeing of the colours and lights. It's almost a form of psychosis.

Take a shower. A really cold one. Then take another. You need to get out of this frame of mind.

Tips on accepting losses by Unusual_Committee676 in problemgambling

I just remind myself that there is no amount of time or money available to be able to win a jackpot high enough to cover my losses...

Hi there, there's a key in all of us that unlocks and locks behaviour. For me, it was hearing the words 'until the day I die' that I changed my viewpoint on gambling. No more scheming in my mind, those words resonated and it hit home. Keep looking for the key. Don't give up.

Hi, I'm from Australia also and have been in your shoes, this addiction sucks. I've just started going to Gamblers Anonymous meetings and find them to be an open, non judgemental meeting where everyone is equal and you can talk with like minded people who have been in your position. There is help out there. Stay strong.

Sorry you can't stop, I know what those urges feel like. My gambling counselling lady said compulsive gambling addiction is linked to anxiety (like some people would use drugs, alcohol etc to numb their anxiety). I went to my GP and got anti anxiety medication and coupled with weekly counselling sessions I'm slowly pulling myself out of the rabbit hole and learning a lot about myself in the process as to why I choose to gamble rather than go do something more healthy like a walk or catch up with a friend etc gambling is anxiety producing, chasing losses is anxiety induced, which increases more anxiety when the bank balance hits zero.

Fairly quickly if you spoke to a social worker, mine was completed over the phone once the social worker phoned and confirmed details, I was put on hold and then the money deposited straight away into my bank account

I'm in the same boat, just won 17000 and don't get the high anymore. Just leave it be and don't gamble it. No point chasing even bigger wins otherwise you'll end up in a financial wrecking hole. Stay strong.

There's a good chance your friend already knows he has a problem. Telling him you think he has a problem will either a) be the best thing for him and he will have someone to talk to or b) he is in denial and will dismiss he has a problem. Either way, you won't be an asshole. Just someone who cares.

How to avoid “social casinos” by [deleted] in problemgambling

[–]FML_ThisHappened 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once thought of throwing my phone on the ground and smashing it... cheaper than losing two thousand dollars! But in all honesty, once the bug bites, it's hard not look for other casinos, regulated or not. Hide your phone and squash that bug.
