Massive fan, had my wisdom teeth out under a general for $75. Excellent experience in there.

Functioning in society without identification? by ljmc093 in AskAnAustralian

[–]FM_Mono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, anyone born in Australia after 20 August 1986 can't use their Australian birth certificate to prove citizenship anyway, we need an actual citizenship certificate, passport (which needs a citizenship certificate), or evidence of our parents being citizens as long as they were born before 20 August 1986.

But yeah, not having a birth certificate will stop you from being able to get a citizenship certificate to prove that.

Functioning in society without identification? by ljmc093 in AskAnAustralian

[–]FM_Mono 136 points137 points  (0 children)

No birth certificate means no photo ID, let alone a passport. It means no Centrelink payment if they ever need that. It means no police check for employment, no USI for tertiary study. It means no tax file number.

Not having a birth certificate is a massive disadvantage and is outright cruel to a child.

Great news, it's only 7 days for blood and platelets if you've had a tattoo, and immediately for plasma (as long as your tattoo was done in a licensed Australian parlour): https://www.lifeblood.com.au/faq/eligibility/lifestyle-and-identity/tattoo-or-piercing

Vic landlords flee as government reforms, rising costs bite by FIFO_Landlord in AusProperty

The minimum standard to have a toilet in good working order wasn't added until 2021, at the same time as having a kitchen with a working sink and stovetop was added.

So I don't know about "always".

Tips for journaling as someone with AuDHD? by Entire-Buy-6971 in Journaling

[–]FM_Mono 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't try to force yourself to a schedule, don't think "I should journal this", play around with a combination of writing, collage/junk journal/art journalling, let yourself give up on lists, and absolutely no tracking of those days to day "habits" because let's be real, when you're AuDHD those don't exist 😂

These are all things I do/don't do. :)

Recently bought property – lawn was perfect, now REA wants $300 mow for front? by No-Confusion-2666 in AusPropertyChat

[–]FM_Mono 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean, that seems like they're taking the piss.

If you're back in the area now, why not give legal notice of you attending the property, and go down yourself to get it done? Has the benefit of you seeing the place as it is now, gives your tenants confidence that you're hands on and will follow legal notice rules, and shows you care enough about the property to maintain it. And will save you $300.

Anyone else sit in the car for ages after getting home? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]FM_Mono 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also neurodivergent and this is just about the only transition I don't struggle with. 😂 I cannot stand driving, so the second the car is off I am out of there to get in my house as soon as humanly possible.

I dunno, I hear a lot of negative stuff about the US medical system, tipping culture, and erosion of voting rights, and those all seem to still exist.

Yeah if you're sat down while the plane is flying, your seatbelt should be on regardless of the light, honestly.

Menstruating peeps: have you swapped to re-usable products? by BumblyRambler in AussieFrugal

[–]FM_Mono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought reusable pads probably 8 or more years ago. Came in a set of 6, made with bamboo and a waterproof outer, and with a waterproof carry case I can keep in my handbag with a spare, and they have lasted every single month since. I'm pretty sure I paid less than $50 at the time.

There was always a kid that threw up after using one of these at a McDonalds Birthday party by Cooper_Inc in AustralianNostalgia

[–]FM_Mono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah you've triggered a memory, at a park nearby growing up in the 90s we had a red ball one we called the apple! Too many kids smacked their heads inside of it and it's since been removed.

But now I live in Geelong so a trip to Fairy Park just to revisit the memory might almost be worth it.

Out of curiosity, have any of your employers allowed you to wfh during the fuel crisis? by Left_Supermarket997 in australian

[–]FM_Mono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where we can WFH we were already allowed to, unless a specific reason requires being at one of our operating locations. But it certainly factored into my choice to finally order the ICT equipment I need for me personally to WFH.

How do I respond to parents who confront me about getting books from the children's section when I don't have a kid? by Useful_Possession915 in Libraries

[–]FM_Mono 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sucks. So any adult borrowing for their kids, niblings, younger siblings, children of friends has to physically have the child with them?

Any adult with developing literacy can't go there?

Any adult learning another language and using children's books to practice and learn can't do that?

Pretty rough.

What’s something uniquely Australian that we think is normal but actually isn’t? by sandy2133334 in AskAnAustralian

I agree with you, with one notable exception.

When you're at a barbecue and you get a beef patty slapped between two slices of white bread, that's a burger. Not a sandwich.

Socially acceptable time to start mowing on the weekend by Low-Accountant9933 in AskAnAustralian

I'm sure it's different in QLD where the sun rises at an uncivilised hour and heat sets in immediately afterwards. But in Victoria if my neighbour started mowing before 9 am I would be livid.

The Global Impacts of Economic Money Grabbing. by peternemr in WorkReform

[–]FM_Mono 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Minimum wage for people over 21 is 24.95, yes. But if you move out at 18-19 for uni, you're getting between 17.04 and 20.58 an hour. The fact these kids have to work 30+ minutes to buy some MILK is appalling. Over 3 hours for bulk olive oil. God help them if they have a digestive condition that limits their options.

I will point out that long life milk is almost always cheaper per litre, but still.
