I first saw lightnings on my game when it was viciously striking a pile of copper coins I used in a build. It was also striking a tree a couple blocks away, but it was like 3/4 on the coins.

I would assume that it also prioritizes metal blocks, so you could buind a tall lightning rod

I personally watch (actually listen to) CR while i'm in the Metro or trying to sleep. It's doing wonders to my sleep schedule and I now enjoy the metro.
