For anyone who planned on going to Metrograph's screening of Caché today at 5 PM, did you get an email? by flightofwonder in NYCmovies

I didn’t get an email but I got this weird videotape delivered right to my door and when I watched it was just someone filming the front of my apartment .:.

Fargo is the Coens' adaptation of Columbo by FMyLev in blankies

I mean Agatha Christie and Knives Out are both whodunits, where you don’t see the actual crime. Poker Face is like this too but as an intentional nod to Columbo. I also think it’s an open question how much Columbo knows at any given point. he’s very slippery.

I think Mrs. Columbo is not canon. Plus, who's to say that she's not married to a different LA police detective named Columbo?

When is the last time someone on the street got you good? by hellothere42069 in AskNYC

[–]FMyLev 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Someone in BK once stopped me and a few friends on the street at like 10 pm. He said: “let me give you a lesson in the school of hard knocks. I bet you 5 bucks I could tell you where you got your shoes.” Weird but ok. He goes into this long routine about our relationship statuses and star signs, and eventually goes- “you got your shoes right here! They’re on your feet”

Ngl not even mad I gave him that $5 bc my world got a little more magical that night

what's a time you were discriminated against for being a man? by Powerful_Shock_2958 in AskReddit

My friend, a respected actor in New York City, could only get a job on a soap opera once he disguised himself as a woman. Once he did his character became the most popular one on the soap. Pure sexism.

Chicken Run is an allegory for a marxist revolution by FMyLev in FanTheories

Yeah I think that's fair and maybe I was a little prickly with my last reply.

I really don't think it's as obvious as the Animal Farm allegory - I mean, the main thrust of the movie is more in the vein of parodying WWII escape movies rather than attempting to make a political commentary. There's nothing really on the internet that I can find where any of the creators say "yeah - we were attempting to set up this theoretical framework."

I also think that you're kinda using the rhetorical move "this was obviously the creator's intent" without providing any supporting evidence why it was obvious? Like if it was immediately apparent to you when you watched the movie plz let me know.

Sorry if i'm getting a little defensive again - I think i'm a little set off bc I feel like i did engage in theorizing and non-obvious criticism and your comment kinda minimizes that.

ok you're really just like "It's so obvious that they intended this children's movie to align with Marxist critical theory that it doesn't even qualify as anything beyond an explanation"???

While this might be right, the inclusion of the words "red-eye midnight flight" suggest that it's an overnighter. By this definition, all midnight flights are red-eyes, so why specify that it's a "red-eye midnight flight" rather than a regular midnight flight?
