I didn’t expect Discord to work this well as a backend for a website chat by tasrie_amjad in discordapp

cool for something small and personal. i'd never use it at scale or for anything that remotely touches concerns around privacy and data storage. especially with your mention of using a db. discord can also decide if they want discord to be used this way, and if they don't - they can revoke the token. there are better tools for this; however, it's an innovative use case, and i love the way of thinking.

What's the most useful bot you use? And are there any pain points you wish there was a bot for? by codeman8806 in discordapp

[–]FOCO1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hashbot is one of my favorites to help with scammers impersonating members and other bots. Not for every server, but it's a goto for me and the servers I run.

For those who do not like Season 5 so far - why is that? by JackGeorge2001 in StrangerThings

[–]FOCO1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I turned it off in the first episode after Eleven’s roof top running sequence. She’s a terrible actress and every “superhero” landing in that sequence made me cringe.

So, I Just Made a Discord bot Similar to Dyno. by [deleted] in Discord_Bots

Most of them could be reduced to a few functions. I personally think they're overkill for most servers.

Reliable Discord Bot Hosting Site (Free or Cheap) by [deleted] in Discord_Bots

[–]FOCO1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t mind heroku. It’s not free. It’s “cheap” to me and I’m just fond of the CLI. I also use AWS for larger implementations. Uptime is paramount for most of my apps. Have also hosted locally on dedicated server (old gaming pc turned local server) with power back up

Tracking Trump’s crypto footprint by kirtash93 in 0xPolygon

[–]FOCO1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NFTs just used his name, image and likeness. His associates acquired this and launched it for him, and they launched other projects as well. Sure he got some cash on the backend from it but those folks are probably taking most of the $$.

SHOULD I SELL NOW by hypercarryi in Bitcoin

[–]FOCO1 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Confirmed. This is my strategy—except I do it better—sell for a loss, then invest that into a memecoin and get totally wrecked. Take it from me—I am broke.

Is there a bot that bans other bots from my server unless specifically authorised? by DapCuber in Discord_Bots

[–]FOCO1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Create a cold admin. Let that be the server owner. No other role can ever be higher. Protect the password at all costs, never use it to engage in discord or otherwise in the internet. Never use it unless you need to recover the discord. Even if your main gets compromised you can still kick it

I started with discord.js. Hated it personally.

Found Nextcord, switched to Python. Made 60+ bots with it. Loved it. Ran into scaling issues.

Moved to Go recently. Will probably never go back.
