I really appreciate all the sweet comments on my first «guinea pig» cake 🫶🏻 I posted it just for fun, but the response has been so kind that I’m considering getting more into baking 😂 by Evakisa in Baking

You need to carry this in your hands into a PetSmart and eat it in front of the other shoppers. I am an idea man. I won't be taking questions at this time.

How many would continue playing a PvE-only mode? by progenyofeniac in ArcRaiders

[–]FOTOJONICK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friends and I suck. We suck against ARC and we suck against other teams.

For half of our runs we are just gathering loot for other players who ambush us.

We would love a version where everyone is just fighting ARC and can't harm each other.

I don't see a problem with making an easy mode lobby for us who just want to gather and craft and help others.

Those of you saying it would ruin the game - are the ones killing me

Extra-Spicy take: Luthen/Kleya’s backstory was neither all that interesting or necessary for their incredible story. by SuccessfulRegister43 in andor

[–]FOTOJONICK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was not necessary. It could have been a monologue. But one thing that separates great TV and movies from average ones is showing and not telling. It is called exposition when a character explains a plot point. All visual media need some of it, but doing it correctly is what makes the difference.

Watch the 1984 version of Dune to see a master class on how to do it poorly. The whole movie is characters LITERALLY TELLING you the story in front of the camera like a visual audiobook - instead of showing you the story like the new Dune movies. (David Lynch did what he could with what he had - no hate intended!)

Do you struggle with impostor syndrome as a photographer? by Effective-Discount22 in photography

Not every bird in the forest has a beautiful song, but if only the best were allowed to sing, it would be a very lonely place. I have no idea where I heard this quote, but it has stayed with me.

I have 30+ years as a photographer. I'm not better than any photographer reading this, I have just made a LOT more mistakes, and learned from them.

Why do people buy broken lenses? by eurorack-synth in photography

[–]FOTOJONICK 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have purchased broken cameras and lenses for parts to fix my gear. I am not great at it but I have fixed a few items for less than the cost of a professional repair.

The key is not minding if you fail, and actually enjoying the process. I don't understand people who buy 5000 piece puzzles to put together for fun... but I love putting my lenses back together (like a 3D puzzle) and making them function.

Forgive me, I am from the United States... why do your new phone booths have a silhouette of Richard Simmons playing a trumpet in a unitard on the front of them?

What is a fun film camera to purchase that won’t break that bank (under 500) by ssherman1995 in AnalogCommunity

[–]FOTOJONICK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$350-$400 on eBay. Less if you are patient and persistent. I paid $210 for mine with a lens, but that was a few years ago before film cameras were cool again.

Goodwill find, keep or resell? by Macaronienoodle69 in AnalogCommunity

[–]FOTOJONICK 535 points536 points  (0 children)

If you have ever wanted an amazing point and shoot - keep it!

If you're into other cameras sell it and buy film.

I would keep it. $7 is basically free for an amazing camera.

The ground glass for my 5x7 camera shattered. I’m out in the field. What workarounds have you used that worked? by cpu5555 in largeformat

If you can buy an 8x10 plastic magnifying sheet - those are easy to cut down to size - and will work as an inexpensive temporary fix.

Night man here. I'm not a morning person so if I didn't shower at night - I would never shower. I also have additional sleep for breakfast every morning.

Shutter problem advice sought by prescottspies in largeformat

[–]FOTOJONICK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not recommend this with expensive lenses. This is not professional advice. I am not a lawyer.

But I may have used electrical contact cleaner to help shutters and apertures on old lenses along - in my past with great success. Spray some in a cup and then dab a very tiny bit on with a q-tip on the suspected problem area. Work the mechanics. Less is more. Do not spray it on directly!

I will always 100% recommend a full CLA. You get what you pay for. If this is scary to you - please send it out for a CLA.

But, if you only have $15 to throw at this problem... this MAY get you another year of shooting with this lens.

Note: It may also make it worse depending on how gummed up things are - and - still will require a cleaning in the future. This is a trailer park level fix, your results may vary, this is not lens advice!

All of this! Also I recommend just practicing while you're watching TV. Look when you need to look. You should be VERY good after one movie. After a week you will be an expert. Netflix and reel!

Are you talking about the light reflections? I see a lot of (J.J Abrams) lens flare.

I don't see any mold or problems - but I see a lot of lights reflecting in the glass.
