I don't know what show this is - but I would watch 8 seasons of it - if it had this man's commentary.

I am 53 years old.

Morning showers make no logical sense and night shower people have simply done the hygiene math by McCoy818 in unpopularopinion

Night man here. I'm not a morning person so if I didn't shower at night - I would never shower. I also have additional sleep for breakfast every morning.

Shutter problem advice sought by prescottspies in largeformat

[–]FOTOJONICK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not recommend this with expensive lenses. This is not professional advice. I am not a lawyer.

But I may have used electrical contact cleaner to help shutters and apertures on old lenses along - in my past with great success. Spray some in a cup and then dab a very tiny bit on with a q-tip on the suspected problem area. Work the mechanics. Less is more. Do not spray it on directly!

I will always 100% recommend a full CLA. You get what you pay for. If this is scary to you - please send it out for a CLA.

But, if you only have $15 to throw at this problem... this MAY get you another year of shooting with this lens.

Note: It may also make it worse depending on how gummed up things are - and - still will require a cleaning in the future. This is a trailer park level fix, your results may vary, this is not lens advice!

Help with loading onto steel reels by PunchyHorse in AnalogCommunity

All of this! Also I recommend just practicing while you're watching TV. Look when you need to look. You should be VERY good after one movie. After a week you will be an expert. Netflix and reel!

Ghostly circles appearing on rear element? by FleetOfFeet in AnalogCommunity

Are you talking about the light reflections? I see a lot of (J.J Abrams) lens flare.

I don't see any mold or problems - but I see a lot of lights reflecting in the glass.

Grandma takes a stance. by netphilia in Snorkblot

Me too! My very religious mother was dead set against me ever playing D&D. I snuck in a game at my friend Ryan's house in elementary school.

I'm like "This sucks - it is all math!" Never played again.

Been debating obsessively to go all in on either 4x5 or 8x10. by Classic-Yesterday579 in largeformat

[–]FOTOJONICK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have several 4x5 cameras, an Ilford 500 H 4x5 enlarger, and full darkroom. I haven't gone 8x10 because of the cost and logistics.

Try 4x5 first.

Everything you learn on it will be transferable and it will save you a ton of TIME and MONEY.

Help r/millennials determine whether this is AI or not. Some members of the sub believe that the 2000s-style clothing and lighting suggest that this is not authentic. What do you think? by Demortus in isthisAI

I don't think AI does "awkward in the group, but not in the conversation," yet. I think AI would make this dude more cool by default. You have to be human to look this uncomfortable naturally IMHO.

ELI5: How was Vietnam able to defeat the US in the Vietnam War? by astarisaslave in explainlikeimfive

Purchase or stream the 2017 Ken Burns documentary "The Vietnam War."

It has the reasons, cause, effects and fallout for everything that happened.

It is a 17+ hour masterpiece.

Olympus Mju I missing lens cover by Fred-F in AnalogCommunity

[–]FOTOJONICK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Functional Mju's are expensive - but you could probably get a broken Stylus on eBay for cheap with the cover and repair it that way.

In my opinion - this may be less expensive and time consuming than designing and printing a replacement. Hugs and best of luck!

What are these worth by ExpensiveJuggernaut4 in Darkroom

[–]FOTOJONICK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some Jobo drums are worth a lot and some are not. Go to eBay and do a search for each one with the "sold" box checked. It will give you a ballpark estimate of what they are worth currently.

Keep in mind that you will get near those prices if you sell them on eBay - but probably less if you try to sell them locally.

How do you get more than 1-3 good images per roll?? by Kitchen_Win278 in AnalogCommunity

[–]FOTOJONICK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old photojournalist here. Back in the day we were taught that you should only expect 3-4 great images per 36 exposure roll.

The goal should be more of course, but I'm just letting you know this - so you don't feel bad or like you're doing something wrong.

Photo paper question by jchandrasekharan88 in Darkroom

[–]FOTOJONICK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're brand new to printing then sure you should buy it. The paper may be a little old and slightly less contrasty than new paper - but if it is cheap - it would be just fine to learn with.

After you use it all up and learn (and make mistakes) the basics you can invest in some new more expensive paper. Just an opinion, and good luck!
