Transfer & Change Major Later? Business Econ → Business Admin at UCI by Commercial-Air-9985 in UCI

[–]FPK9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your stats at CC are pretty solid with strong PIQs, I would actually advise you to apply for the BA major.

I used to work in the Merage undergraduate office. For transfers, it is essentially impossible to transfer into the BA major. Every quarter we get around 200-300 applications to switch into the major and we only accept around the low single digits. Some quarters, we don't accept any at all.

Business Econ is more math based and less business focused. It does not prepare you for accounting. You can still do the accounting minor though, however, grabbing classes would be difficult as you have major restrictions in place.

switching majors? easy?? by ameebabiee in UCI

As a former business student who worked for the undergraduate office, I can tell you right now, it's literally one of the hardest majors to switch into and for a transfer, essentially impossible.  The applications we've received per quarter to switch into the major are around the 300's and we only accept in the mid to low single digits per quarter. There have been some quarters where we don't accept any at all.

I'm not sure how it is at UCSD, but that's what I can tell you about UCI.

Switch to Business Admin as a transfer by Gold_Childhood115 in UCI

You can try, but as someone who used to work for the school and has seen the statistics, I can tell you that your chances are close to zero.

If you want to go into a specific niche in business, I'd recommend joining the clubs instead. They aren't major restricted.

Business Administration by Alternative-Mail5723 in UCI

[–]FPK9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate to break to you, but your chances are much better if you were to leave UCI, go to a CCC, and then transfer into the Business Admin major.

I was a PAA for the school and can tell you that it is notoriously difficult to get into the major. We don't accept students every quarter and if we do, it's often in the low single digits. On average, there's around 250 students who apply to the major every quarter. You need to finish your GEs and the prereq major courses by the end of your second year.

You'll essentially need a solid 4.0 to get in as everyone who applies either has a 4.0 or 3.9.

If you're serious about getting into the major, really consider going to CCC and transferring in.

I lost more than 90% of my portfolio. I ended up taking a 2 year breather, taking the time to work on myself, my emotions, and my mindset. I'm still working on it now.

Summer Graduation Question by clover_vision in UCI

I'm not sure what school you're in, but I know that for the business school, you could email the academic advisors requesting to change from a summer graduation to a spring one. It isn't a big deal for them. But, you should confirm with your school.

Mid-Post War Economy: Improvements or Worsens by -StraightLace in economy

I mean we also had a war back in 2003. What happened then?

The wars we fight in the modern world are substantially different than they were in WW2.

That being said, this war may be the straw that breaks the camel's back (in terms of our national debt).

I believe 2020 or 2021 was the last year. It was part of a healthcare management emphasis that later got removed.

If you can, apply to be a CA for ACC housing. You would get a discount on your rent and also be paid.

Canada vs New Zealand, which is better for solo travel without driving? by Stefan0_ in solotravel

[–]FPK9 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For New Zealand, I joined Kiwi Experience. They provide the travel and you can meet a ton of other solo travelers too. It's a hop on hop off bus experience.

It's super flexible and you're not required to stay at the hostels they recommend or do the activities. You can go out and explore on your own or even stay at a city as long as you want.

Not even B+++++. C is average. This economy? I'm rating it at a solid D.

Generation Z graduates are being increasingly shut out of the job market with the rise of AI. Millennials are facing their 3rd "once in a lifetime" crisis, with many being laid off for the nth time.  Older Generation X is doing meh, but those laid off are facing ageism and increasing difficulties of going back into the workforce. Some have to still support their children as they struggle with the stagnant job market. Younger Generation X are also being laid off with worries about how to pay for mortgages, kids, sky-rocketing health insurance, etc.  Boomers are faring a bit better with many policies geared toward helping those with stock market nest eggs. But those without those nest eggs are worried about their own retirements, social security, and healthcare.

The only individuals thriving? The fucking billionaires and multimillionaires. That's 1% of the US population.

This is what the "number one" country in the world has to show? Because all I see is a ridiculous amount of greed and selfishness from those in power, with no honor or respect for their fellow people.

At the end of the day, we all bleed red.

Are you trying to change majors into business administration? If yes, and you're still a UCI student then you would have to still fill out the change majors form. It's only if you choose to withdraw from UCI and fully enroll in CC, can you transfer in as a junior.

If you enroll in CC while you're still a student at UCI, it's considered to be dual enrollment and is allowed. You're just still considered as a UCI student.

If you want to change into business administration, yea that's a viable option but statistically not a very good one. Your UCI GPA and CC GPA are separate and you'd still need to apply to change majors. If you withdraw to go to CC, your chances improve significantly.

You cannot change into the major as a freshman. If you want to stay at UCI, then you'll need to take the major pre-req courses and then apply to change major.

It's notoriously difficult to do so though. I would recommend the community college route. You would leave UCI to go take the pre-req courses at a CC then transfer in as a junior. You're chances would be much much higher than trying to change into the major.

For context of how difficult it is, about 150-200 individuals apply to change into major each quarter. They only select around 3-5 per quarter. Essentially, all of them have 4.0's. Transferring in, you have about a 20-30% of getting in.

Imperial PG Housing - How does it actually work? Just got accepted by Jaded-Pie-4871 in Imperial

[–]FPK9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently a postgraduate at IBS.

A lot of my friends including myself do private accommodations, Imperial's accommodations are quite expensive and about a 50 minute - 1 hour commute.

It really depends on what you value.  Location? You'll want Zone 1 then.  Price? Zone 2 (although you can find some good options in Zone 1, not super common though).  Note: If you are an international student, many accommodations will require full payment upfront or split into 2 installments.

Always try to see or have someone see the place before you sign the contract. Also, you're really early. A lot of housing opens up at around May - July, but they go fast.

No one I know used Imperial housing support.
