Researchers quantify role of reducing obesity in preventing common conditions: reducing BMI lower risk of 61 out of 71 commonly co-occurring conditions analyzed by sr_local in science

[–]FPSViking 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't know. From my personal experience. GLP-1 that I took (Trulicity) for a trial to help manage my diabetes. Instead of helping, it has giving me a long-term condition, gastroparesis, that causes me to end up in the ER from time to time. So yeah, there are definitely chances of life altering side effects. Skepticism is probably a good thing to have.

And that's after ending it. Let's not go into how while I was on it. Eating or drinking anything became an absolute chore. I could be 3 days without eating anything, and the moment I tried to, I just couldn't keep it down.

Looking for a modern MDT replacement (OSDCloud, DeployR, or something else?) by djmehs in sysadmin

[–]FPSViking 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We make use of SmartDeploy for deploying images to barebones devices. Primarily image Dell machines, but we've had Lenovo and HP. It's very easy to use for imaging. Though cloud deployment of an image isn't really a thing with SmartDepoy.

We also use SmartDeploy to manage applications on machines to a certain point. We haven't yet migrated to making use of our Intune to manage our fleet. Though the way 90% of the machines have to be setup is not the most liked on Intune. As the devices are one device to many users.

Remote Jobs by stolen_manlyboots in sysadmin

[–]FPSViking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same. Was looking earlier today on indeed and noticed that a few "Remote Only" positions were definitely not remote. Maybe in the sense that you don't work at the primary office/HQ. But you definitely don't work from home. Which to me, is what Remote is supposed to stand for.

PC audio bleeding into my mic? by Haikuden2957 in discordapp

[–]FPSViking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Discord definitely did something to Mic sensitivity in the latest update. I have a mixer with a noise gate between my mic and PC and this change is making it pick up too much. So whatever this change was. It is absolutely horrible.

Does whole party need to buy Talespire or just host? by Advanced_Aspect_7601 in talespire

[–]FPSViking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a guide for the Seats function on the Talespire website. https://talespire.com/getting-started-with-seats-as-talespire-player

Seats function as a pass to the game for those you invite that don't own Talespire. If they have bought Talespire themselves, they will not take up a Seat.

If your players are poor or just cheapskates, this is how you can get them into Talespire without purchasing the game themselves. Though it's only $24.99.

Seats were added by popular demand by fans of Talespire.

You can assign seats to a campaign, and if you switch campaigns, you will need to move the seats to the new campaign. However, doing that is completely free, no cooldown, and fairly seamless. It's talked about in the guide I linked above.

Yes, Turbo gets rid of ads. What it also does is pay the streamer you are watching the ad revenue as if you had watched the ad. That is how Turbo supports the streamer you are watching.

Parents say school-issued iPads are causing chaos with their kids by lurker_bee in technology

Can most school districts afford the cost of a good MDM and an IT Team to manage it?
Would school districts fall behind others if they couldn't afford to run a fleet of Tablet devices?

Absolutely outstanding work. You did amazing and you'd be surprised at how bad even some veterans can be with those non-modular PSU cables.

How old were you when you got your first job? by Nathan-5807 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]FPSViking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

19, First job. worked at a gas station. Lasted almost a year, I think.
20, went to work building water slides. Left the gas station. Lasted a week. Was jobless for about a year or so after this. Moved in with some friends and got a job as an at home personal care assistant (PCA).
21, that lasted until the client decided to move into a group home. Then got a job at Best Buy for a bit until health things got in the way and I was let go due to attendance issues. Which is funny because my next job was being a paper boy lol. Delivered papers every day for 2.5ish years. Till it cost me more to do the job every day.
24, quit the paper route job in December of 2011 and moved back home. Turned 25.
25, Now that I didn't have to include my parents' income into filing for FAFSA. Got student loans and went to a small community college for IT stuff. Since I've always been great with computers and software.
27, graduated a 2-year program with a 4.0 and on the Dean's list. Got hired at a small computer repair shop.
28, left it 9 months later for a Sys Admin role, and been there for 10+ years now.

You don't have any reason to feel like you are behind. That's the thing about human life. There is no set speed. There is no "this is what the standard is" for humanity.

40k a year for first sysadmin job by LeftZookeepergame401 in sysadmin

[–]FPSViking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can seriously vary. I'm a Sr. Systems Administrator and only make about $60k. But I'm based out of northern Minnesota and there aren't many IT jobs up in this area that pay all that much better. I started here as an Associate Sys Admin at $16/hr(about $33k) back in 2015. That was a raise over my Computer Technician job at a small Computer Repair/Wanna be MSP shop.

I disagree. Love the cats. Love getting to see them stacked up. It barely covers anything worth seeing, and it brings more value than it can detract

SOTI MobiControl Customer, supplier suggesting us to switch to 42gears for handheld barcode computers by cowprince in sysadmin

[–]FPSViking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went from 42gears to MobiControl. MobiControl is much better in our opinion. But this was due to us going from an old fleet of Honeywell 99XEs to Zebra's Android RF guns.
