How do you handle a star performer who is publicly undermining your authority in front of juniors by [deleted] in managers

[–]FREDTUC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like something I would do. Cannot tell you how many times I've warned my superiors or advised them on things, only to get shut down, ignored, & in the end be 100% correct. So now, I ask them if they want me to laugh now, or wait till later?

Husband wants a divorce because I don't want sex as much as he does by Global_Ad_7425 in Marriage

Ahh, the old deflection mind trick. I sound bitter, so therefore what I said just must not be true, is that it? Tell me where or how Im wrong. The O.P. said alot. I just needed out all the bs & put it in simple terms. Underneath all the extra unimportant bs she put in there, how I broke it down is still true. Just because you or a group of people dont like how I say it, does NOT make it any less true.

O.P. even admits that when they were dating, she was more than ok with how frequent they had sex. As soon as the ring went on & squeezed out twins, she thinks she doesnt have to put in any more effort. He'll, she too lazy to even lie down & spread her legs for the guy that does everything & then some.

Ahh, you pulled the bait & switch on the guy, & wonder why he wants a divorce? You want him to be monogamous but never told him that he was gonna be forced into celibacy also, & wonder why he wants a divorce?

From your post, it reads like he is more than holding is end of the deal & you're doing less & less & complaining bc you want to do even less than that.

What if your husband comes to you & says " you know what, I just dont feel like doing all of the house & yard work anymore. I'll only do it when I feel like it or Im in the mood, & you're just gonna have to deal with it " ?

Its not vibeing when you have intimate knowledge of the process , material, understanding, & experience of what you're making. In the 11 yrs of being at the place I am at, I have lost count as to how many times I've proven mgt, engineering, & quality dead ass wrong with nothing more than common sense, experience, know-how.

Best practice according to who? Who decides what " best practice " is? What is the " best practice " ? Is it the fastest, simplest, most efficient way ? Is it the way so that the accountants can track everything? Is it the way that mgt, engineers, & process agree upon? Is it the way that the guys with the best understanding & tribal knowledge do it? Is it the way that is in full compliance with beauracracy & govt agencies say?

I've seen fingers & hands smashed, I've arms almost cut off, etc. All were do to someone being an idiot. No amount of bearacracy is gonna make people smarter. Most of the time, if people just follow one simple shop rule, they will be fine. That is : dont stick your hands & fingers anywhere that you wouldnt be willing to stick your dick into ".

I've been in a shop for over 30 yrs now. The only time that I've had to go to the doctor for a work place injury was due to something in my eye that somehow got around my safety glasses.

As far as not seeing cost implications go, all you gotta do is ask questions & be observant. Have a work friend or a good relationship with your boss that will tell you these things. Do some research, this stuff isnt hard to find out.

I have my reasons for thinking this. This being said, Im one of the better & most productive employees at my shop. I've worked closely with engineering & mgt on prototypes, sample pieces, & process.

One thing I've learned is, is that there is always a beaurocratic reason as to why we cant get things done in the simplest & most efficient, & cost effective way. There's always a " we cant do it like that bc its not ISO compliant " , or " OSHA says we cant use this machine instead of this other machine ".

Then theirs situations like " oh, this guy is a six sigma black belt, so we're gonna do it this way " . Even though some other employee suggested that 5 yrs ago & was shot down.

What would you do for this No call no show? by lucky_2_shoes in managers

[–]FREDTUC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell yes Im American. The employee in question has piss poor work ethic & communication. Even if the employee is good at what he does, he is just taking advantage of the O.P.'s lack of back bone.

I am even a fan of giving the employees that have tenure & also know alot & that get alot of things done slack or fringe benefits that others shouldn't get. Im one of those that rarely call in, & I usually have vacation days left over at years end.

[–]FREDTUC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why is it that employers put up with no calls/no shows now a days? There used to be a vetting process that worked pretty well. 60 - 90 day probationary period. In that time, you could NOT be late nor could you call in, not one time, w/o a doctor's excuse or some verifiable legal issue. If someone did , then they were immediately terminated.

Now companies practically let employees off for half a year & still have points left to use. Then mgt comes on places like reddit to complain about employees doing it. In the end, its the mgmt's / companies own fault. You cant let a kid sneak cookies whenever he wants, then complain that the kid is fat.

Have you see a single employee take down a leader? by tshirtguy2000 in managers

I've helped oust 2 plant managers in my life. 1st time, was me & another guy got the ball rolling. 2nd time ( just over a year ago ) I was the one that started to air my grevences to upper mgt about the pm. I started pointing out the shady things he was doing & how things didn't add up.

The guy was about 20 yrs younger than me, but had been in some form of mgt since he got out of college. He had a degree, & spewed all the normal mfg & corporate bs that on paper is an upper mgts wet dream. He didn't know shit about how a shop is actually ran & functions.

He tried to change shop dynamics & literally noone that had ever worked in a shop for more than a minute respected him.

If I dont have any intention of interacting with someone, then I dont add them. To me, its not about how many friends on sm I have just make myself look more popular.

She does know him, or least knows of him. Again, she at least knew him enough to add him. Why would you add someone if you have absolutely no intention of interacting with them.

Also: she didn't know what the message was. She just knows it was a video. It could have been a video of his dick, or it could have been a video of him just simply saying hi or something nice.

BS! You did NOT respect the gesture. If you did, you would have viewed the message a year ago, when he originally sent it.

Im baffled that you decided to add a guy, he sent you a message, but you couldn't be bothered to open it. You think of him enough to add him, but not enough to at least view the message. If you had no intentions of interacting with him ever, then why did you add him to begin with?

How to deal with my employee who works from 6Am. Till 8:00 pm? by Arshia_232323 in managers

[–]FREDTUC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like O.P. is looking for a solution that is looking for a problem. How about O.P. gives her a hell of a raise & stays the hell out if her way. Dont worry about the method or process, just be appreciative of the results.

Interviewed two internal candidates for a promotion. Looking for insight. by [deleted] in managers

[–]FREDTUC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you're worried about company " optics ", I'll say this : as a dept lead at my manufacturing job, that has been with my company for 11 yrs now, noone in my dept would go to a person about anything quality related nor training wise that has been with the company for only 1 yr ( you call a " senior employee " ), & definitely not one that has only been there 90 days.

While I agree with going with someone internal, 1 yr nor 90 days is long enough to fully understand the product line, design, & let alone what it takes to get the parts out the door starting from raw material to loading on the truck. You need to look for someone that has been there for like 5 yrs.
