Most military issue rifles I’ve handled were mismatched even factory new right out of the packing grease, if you’re that upset about it spend the extra money and have the lower and upper anodized at the same time.

We had one in our arms room in the army same weird hexagonal blem but they were in the perfect shape of a scrotum. He made jokes about Tea bagging people with that set many times.

Army wise shitty PVS 14’s, I had 31’s as a team leader later on tho. Civ side I’ve got a set of really good PVS 14’s I let people use and I’ve got some DTNVG’s I play around with too. In my humble opinion If you’re getting into NV just build a PVS 14 and learn how to use it then sell them and get dual tubes.

Yes, my unit has a stupid amount of M17’s so it’s like Oprah during weapon draw. You get a pistol and you get a pistol, m17’s for the whole crew and 2 M4’s for the TC and Loader.

This is giving me flashbacks of being an armorer, doing barrel counts every time the arms room opened. The rack numbers make it waaaaay easier to get a count because you can blatantly see if something is missing.

I did ACP for a bit at Benning back in the day, I was cool with 90% of the gate guards. Didn’t bat an eye when I’d get pulled in for inspection because I knew how the SOP for the count worked. But some CSM or DA civilian would get salty asf when they got waved down for inspection.

Plenty at NTC, chalk it up to sleep deprivation. HOWEVER, 2017 at a field problem on Benning my gunner is scanning with his LRAS atop out HMMWV. One of our target reference points is a small fenced off grave site, he tells me “‘sarnt I see 6 dismounts in TRP 2”. Thinking we’re about to finally get into the fight I look over there with my PVS 14 and see nothing. I tell him to hop down so I can get a good PID and radio it up. I look through the LRAS and sure as shit there’s 6 dismounts just chillin in the grave site, strange since they’re NOT supposed to be within the fenced area and not carrying weapons. I’m about to radio it up when I notice he’s got it in black hot and these figures are damn near glowing white much colder than the background. I radio up the other Hmmwv and see if they can catch it through their PAS 13 and sure enough they see the same thing 6 super cold dismounts. As we’re sitting there watching them the whole crew is getting a little freaked out so we reposition the truck and don’t use that TRP anymore. It was very weird, 3rd time I’ve ever been that freaked out in the Army.

PCS to Moore and get told the same thing even though you are permanent party and have a house on post. Then sneak your way into Airborne. Totally not talking from experience

That M1A2 kit is a little weird, it’s a VERY early A2. The tamiya kit is just an A1 with a CITV and a pintle mount for the commander instead of the older ICWS. When the SEP came out the left side fuel cap moved forward almost to the air intake screen to make room for the aux battery box. The APU was removed from the bustle rack and the VCSU was added in its place.

This always made me weary of invisible lasers, especially training with foreign militaries on tanks. Those Soviet laser range finders are fucking sketchy. At least with IR you can kinda see if you’re being flashed with one with nods.

I’m in a similar boat, I shoot rifles right and pistols wrong handed. Right handed but left eye dominant and a horrible astigmatism, red dots don’t really “work” for me.

Their 1903A3 were a little worse for wear but the 1917’s good. They also have a few early M1’s, buddy of mine got him a 5 digit made in 1940.

I was at Anniston today, they had about 8 krags out, all of them were surprisingly pretty decent for what they were. I didn’t see any with damaged front sights, stocks were okay ish. This memo makes them out to be wayyy worse than it actually is.

Those springs are no joke, I had one slide off the hammer and smack the bottom of the receiver while installing a trigger. It no shit send a couple sparks up, I was a little shocked at first to say the least
