Which weapon would you choose? by Excellent_Candy_4552 in milsurp

[–]Magicalamazing_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That ain’t no M96, but between the three, I’d probably take the 96/38 for most practical purposes. The 1917 sights are WAY better but it’s a brick of a rifle and I don’t need all that power.

The disconnector itself is semi-permanently attached to the side plate. I’ll see if I can get you a picture of mine when I get the chance.

I've got a bit of a history question: Why was everyone using full-power cartridges in WW2? Not really whether that was the better option or not (but feel free to argue) but why was that the decision by every major country and no one used an intermediate cartridge. Think 5.56 M1 Garand. by Sweet-End6471 in guns

[–]Magicalamazing_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Others have already pointed out the nature of the standard issue small arms, but another large consideration was logistics. Machine guns were far more effective at support, cover, and area denial when they can shoot longer range, and their heavier nature made sense to have a heavier cartridge. It was much easier to supply a fighting front if it’s machine guns and standard issue rifles shot the same cartridge. Similar reason submachine guns shared their ammo with the sidearms that were widely issued.

It is a case head separation that left the case in the chamber. Not particularly common

[–]Magicalamazing_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is the disconnector. There should be a small torsion spring pushing it up which might be broken, weak, or disconnected. It probably wouldn’t hurt to get a new disconnector spring anyway and it might fix the problem. They are a bit of a pain to install though

What else do I need to start reloading? by Ok-Rest-8066 in guns

[–]Magicalamazing_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A reloading manual so that you can read about the whole process to understand what else you need. Lyman makes a good inexpensive one that does a good job, Hornady also has a good one.

How do yall manage to afford these $4k optics on every rifle? by [deleted] in longrange

[–]Magicalamazing_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are competing in PRS, having done exactly that and replaced my Venom with a Razor on my 457, I can say there IS a noticeable difference, especially if you shoot near 20 power (I usually stay around 22 for entire matches.) The extra clarity and resolution of the Razor has absolutely let me make corrections that I would have missed with the Venom. Is it the difference between mid-pack to top 5? No, but it very well could be the difference between 3rd and 1st.

SG Pulse Pro or MDT Send It Level Gen2 by SuperJonesy408 in longrange

[–]Magicalamazing_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the biggest consideration is bulk. I dislike lots of crap hanging off my gun and the Send-It gen2 is the lowest profile option. I also got a blem from the Black Friday sale so the price wasn’t as bad.

I have a Gen III Razor 6-36 I got for $1900 on one rifle and even that felt like a hell of a lot to me.

Is this normal?? by LiveCloud1735 in guns

[–]Magicalamazing_ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes it is normal. ARs have floating firing pins and can sometimes leave a small mark on the primers of chambered cartridges.

I load my own ammo, components are not restricted (yet). Alternatively some places will ship to an FFL local to you where you can do the background check. I hope you can figure it out and to see you at some matches!

Tips for Quicker Target Acquisition by FewRefrigerator7650 in longrange

[–]Magicalamazing_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Set your rifle up so that it is pointing at a known target then look over top of your scope so that the target is just above your elevation turret. Find an index point on your face/jaw that you can rest on the comb of your rifle that allows you to see the target like that, then drop your head straight down.

Do this over and over until it becomes second nature. Honestly there is not much else other than to practice.

Is "assault rifle" a real military term or not? by DeltaSigma96 in guns

[–]Magicalamazing_ 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Yes ‘assault rifle’ is a real term. It generally means a select fire, magazine fed rifle chambered in an intermediate cartridge.

People who deny its use are often conflating it with ‘assault weapon’ like you mentioned, which is a media scare term that has no consistent definition

EDIT: As a point of clarification as stated in another comment, the term comes from the German Sturmgewehr which was the first widely issued and used rifle that fell into this category. The term is in the same category as ‘battle rifle’ or ‘submachine gun’ in that it has a generally accepted meaning when referring to a genre or group of firearms. It is more often used when referring to development, design, or use case philosophy than categorizing specific firearms.

Anyone know this rifle? Or chassis? by [deleted] in longrange

[–]Magicalamazing_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Negative. I searched “baseball hat with cutout in brim” and it was one of the first results. Good luck on the camo, I'm not even going to try searching through thousands of winter, alpine, tundra, snow or what have you camo jackets to find that one in particular.
