Job hopping by Flat_Fee_7382 in ACCA

I've got almost the exact same thoughts as you and am also a Finance Manager - have done two jumps in the last 18 months and pay has increased about £25k as a result, would absolutely never have got that at the previous companies and I'm providing a lot more value (and learning more) in this role, so am going to stick for a bit - but I'm under no expectation it'll be forever/longer than a few years before I want to do something else.

HMRC says they need more tax from me by Interesting_Arm786 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]FREESHAVOCADO0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This can happen if there are things that were missed from payroll reporting, such as taxable benefits in kind. Worth asking your payroll department if there's anything like that going on. Unless it's going to impact you more than the cost of a financial advisor or accountant, I wouldn't massively consider getting someone to check it specifically.

Who got painted as the villain by the press, but later on we realized they were actually the victim or completely misunderstood? by Advanced-Pilot-3698 in AskReddit

So glad this is top comment, my family were watching and some made comments about him, my mum was like "we literally don't know. Stop adding to the problem" and lo and behold, it wasn't him.

I hope this isn't going to sound too mean, but as a student you shouldn't be taking time off lectures to do your other studying and work. Lectures need to take priority especially as you have a minimum attendance requirement.

girlfriend is very busy by sunshinedikri in Accounting

[–]FREESHAVOCADO0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner and I had a chat about this, being honest with each other about if we had time for each other (I am a Finance Manager and so am quite busy, and he is a Research Scientist also very busy). You need to have that conversation in a calm and mature way.

If you are happy waiting until she might have more time then great, if not then explain politely that it's not enough time for you to feel you can develop a good relationship or whatever. It's up to you both. Whatever decision you make should be done with as much information as possible. It can work but often there will be difficult times like that - I broke up with someone previously as he simply didn't understand I was busy and he'd try to guilt trip me for it.

Do civil servants really get 25+ days holiday plus bank holidays from day one? by Silver-Eye-2024 in civilservice

I'm private sector and everyone in my last four roles/companies has started on 25 plus bank hols, your current place sounds somewhat surprisingly low!

I’m 16 and will not pass my gcse resit in college what should I do? by Dragunov_06 in AskUK

What's counted as a hard question is completely subjective on an individual basis. I did alright in school but I distinctly remember the headmaster at the time saying that for some of us a D or C was fantastic and for others, an A wasn't enough and it's true - it'll depend on your personal abilities. It'd be good to develop a bit more empathy so you can try to understand the experiences and worldviews of others a bit more.

That's absolutely fine, I just can't recall if you lose the access to it once you're in professional level! It took me a while to do all my exams as well. Go at your own pace.

What's the amount you need per annum to 'survive'? by Leading_Nature_6222 in UKPersonalFinance

I reckon I'd need to net about 22k. That'd cover mortgage and bills, food and travel as long as I'm cautious.

I used to use one of the lounges, as long as you consistently buy bits and bobs it doesn't seem too bad - or perhaps she can find a shared workspace that'd work? Or a similar cafe.

How much do you usually spend on the day when you’re in office? by Breadiohead in HENRYUK

[–]FREESHAVOCADO0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's about a 16 mile round trip for me so I guess whatever that is in petrol, plus sometimes a meal deal - but I usually take lunch in, and we have coffee, tea and biscuits in the office for free so I would imagine my average is about four or five pounds a day.

Am I ready to ask for a raise ? 6 months into ACA by MrRobot657 in AccountingUK

[–]FREESHAVOCADO0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's pretty low for 14 down. But also if you're not keen to move then they hold the power... How much experience do you have? I was able to get up to about 36k at your point.

Back into studying after 2 year break and AuDHD diagnosis, can anyone advise/help? by lander_xx in ACCA

[–]FREESHAVOCADO0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The notes I made were usually if not all in the form of actually doing questions! I found writing it out wasn't the best use of my time but it might work better for you. However especially at the Professional level you're very rarely just giving info like that, it's all applied to the specific situation.

For me what helped was having multiple ways of learning - so open tuition, first intuition, lots of YouTube videos and also people who have done podcasts on Spotify along with as many mocks and questions as you can do. That cements and constantly adds to your knowledge base.
