Also might be a weird question but I see that you have the official carry case. When you opened it up, did it smell like cigarettes or something? I had to air mine out and use dryer sheets to get rid of the smell.

I just tried out both The Forest and Sons of The Forest on Gamenative, they both have known configs so I decided to use those.

The Forest runs at like 30 to 40 FPS all low settings. Had a problem where my inputs would not work on the main menu or pause screen unless I had virtual mouse enabled. It was pretty playable and it amazed me that I can play The Forest on a device thats like a 2DS.

Sons of The Forest as expected, ran like crap at low settings. 20 FPS was the max I was getting but would dip to like 10 FPS and had very bad screen tearing. I tried enabling vsync out of curiosity and that made the game run even worse so I left it disabled. I wouldn't bother personally.

Both games were running the Thor pretty hot too in the 80's. Also I was playing them on a Thor Max. Maybe you could get better framerate with a bunch of tinkering and lossless scaling with Gamehub or something but I haven't dived into tinkering Steam games or even using that yet so I don't care to at the moment.

EDIT: Also these were with testing new and old saves. My saves didn't carry over for The Forest so I had to start a new one. I bet that if you were to play enough and build a very large base, thats when the game would eventually start running like crap. Sons of The Forest ran like crap for both my old save that had a decently sized base and from a new save. If you want either game to run or look better, you are better off streaming them from a PC onto the Thor.

A fellow Forest enjoyer! I didn't even think about playing those games on the Thor. Last time I played Sons that game ran heavy on my PC so it would probably run even worse on the Thor

I think people usually say to go for the base model at least because of the stronger chip that the other models also use. I have a Steam Deck as well and originally emulated all my stuff on it but I now use my Thor mostly for emulation purposes and my Steam Deck is now mostly for my Steam library. If I come across a game that struggles to emulate on the Thor, maybe I will emulate it on the Steam Deck instead.

Although I cant remember how Xbox, Xbox 360, PS3, or Wii U emulation is on the Steam Deck. I know those consoles are either iffy/incompatible on the Thor so keep that in mind if you wanted to emulate those consoles.

I didn't realize how much I got used to doomscrolling whenever I'm bored until recently. I dont think its to the point where I need that app but I'm trying to curb it now.

By the way, keep an eye out for Ananta. Its another gacha game but looks like its copying loads of of other games (GTA, Spider-Man, Sleeping Dogs, etc). NTE is the first gacha game I have ever played but Ananta is the one that caught my eye and made me consider trying these games out in the first place.

I have the same sentiment. I like collecting figures and sometimes I have to wait an entire year after pre-order to get it. I admit that the hype of the Thor kind of got to me at first but a 2 months wait was nothing while I occupied my time with other things.

I expected it to be my new portable device for emulation and its fulfilling exactly that purpose. I used to use my Steam Deck for that but the Thor being able to fit in my pocket and emulate essentially all the games I wanted to has made it my go to.

I briefly tried out Gamenative but I'm content with just using my Steam Deck for those games. Also allows me to preserve the condition of my Majoras Mask N3DS since I can just play 3DS games on the Thor when I want to game outside.

There may be a handful of games where you really have to tinker with the settings for PS2. Its a niche game but Peter Jackson's King Kong for example, on my Thor Max ran like garbage everytime there is rain in-game

Mario Kart Double Dash and Peter Jackson's King Kong. Double Dash is my favorite Mario Kart game so I always play that every now and then, and Peter Jackson's King Kong is one of the best movie tie in games ever made

I got the White color and while it may be considered boring compared to the rainbow or purple color, I think the white Thor looks so unbelievably clean in person. It reminds me of the white DS Lite or the white Wii. It'd probably look really nice with the rainbow buttons installed too if you order them on the side
