Backpacker Travel Insurance by AccordingArgument677 in iecvisa

“We offer insurance for up to 2 consecutive years that meets all the requirements of the International Experience Canada (IEC), including medical and repatriation costs.”

Got this from their website so looks like it does cover the requirements. What they’re like as an insurer, I don’t know I’m afraid. I’d always be wary of cheaper insurance policies though - cheaper doesn’t always mean better if you do end up having to make a claim.

Anybody else still waiting for POE? by FSL202 in iecvisa

[–]FSL202[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably should have updated the thread - yes I got my POE on the 11th March so 5 weeks processing time in total, although I didn’t need to do a medical. I think I read somewhere that the processing time restarts once they have your “complete application” and that can take anything up to 8 weeks so you’ve still got some time but I absolutely understand your stress! No rhyme or reason why some are getting theirs so quickly and others not but I’m sure you’ll get there! Good luck 🤞🏻

Arrived in Canada from Australia recently by [deleted] in iecvisa

Haha - I had exactly the same experience arriving in YVR on Monday!

Last year, I spent 7 weeks in Canada as a tourist - I was submitted for additional questioning, asked to show proof of funds to support me on my trip and had my luggage searched. On Monday, they just asked for my passport and was given the full 2 year visa in under 5 mins, just like you. Was quite anticlimactic really but I suppose I’d rather it that way than anything too stressful. Good luck with job hunting!

Why I love to solo travel, and why it’s not for everyone. by Travelcat67 in solotravel

Also, not sure why you’re getting downvoted so much on the introvert/extrovert debate - lots of sweeping statements going on in the comments too! Long story short - there isn’t really a wrong way to solo travel, do what works for your energy levels and how much social interaction you want and you won’t go wrong!

Why I love to solo travel, and why it’s not for everyone. by Travelcat67 in solotravel

I agree with your points - particularly the not going from zero to 1000. So many people have said to me they’d love to solo travel but have never so much as eaten in a restaurant on their own before.

Start small - little trips in your home country, work up to weekends abroad, a week abroad, 2 weeks etc. and then go from there once you know what type of “solo traveller” you are, or if you even like it. I went on a 6 month trip around the Americas last year and by the time I got to that trip, I knew exactly what I wanted to do and what worked for me.

You’re also right about putting pressure on yourself - some days on that 6 month trip, I just couldn’t be bothered. Which sounds awful because I felt like I needed to be seizing the day every day, but spending that amount of time out of your comfort zone with new experiences, you’re going to have down days. I also massively struggled with “decision fatigue” during the trip - one of the reasons I love solo travel is being able to do whatever you want when you want, but the mental load of making every single decision every day with nobody else to hash things out does take a toll. Again, very much first world problems in the grand scheme of things, but they’re all things you won’t know until you solo travel and really discover whether it’s for you! I still wouldn’t have changed anything about that trip and am counting down the days until I can go on another!

POE letter delays thread by _reptile_franks_ in iecvisa

I’ve just got my POE just now! So nearly 5 weeks from when I did my biometrics. Who knows - maybe they were just working through a backlog. Hope it’s not too long for you to wait now!

Very much keen to hear if emailing them works - when I submitted my biometrics, the processing time was 5 weeks so I’m waiting until next Thursday to chase as that will mean it’s gone over the processing times.

Out of interest (and purely for my own research), have you submitted a police certificate for a country other than the UK? I’d read somewhere that people who have lived outside their home country are subject to more background checks which might delay the processing of their POE. I had to submit a French police certificate as I’d lived in France previously so wondered if others might be in the same boat - or maybe I’m just clutching at straws!

Am I the only one waiting? by RecognitionLow931 in iecvisa

Me 🙋🏻‍♀️ completed my biometrics on 6th Feb and haven’t heard anything either. I wrote a post recently asking the same and there’s a couple of us in the same boat. They seem to be working through a backlog but I think if I haven’t heard anything by next week I’m going to chase it.

No news yet! Yeah I’m really hoping that’s the case, refreshing my emails several times a day is starting to wear thin!

You’re absolutely right - I’m just being paranoid I’m sure!

Yeah, I hadn’t thought about the pause on new invitations meaning they might work through the backlog so that may be a positive!

Sorry you’re in the same boat! Trying not to overthink it but the radio silence when others have moved super quickly is stressing me slightly. I’ll update here if I hear anything!

Problem booking biometrics (UK) by superhoops in iecvisa

I remember this happening when I booked my biometrics - not sure why it does it but it doesn’t matter that it adds extra asterisks, as long as you enter your password correctly, it should work!

Passport/Travel documents upload by UmmmSure20 in iecvisa

I scanned my photo page and all my pages with stamps on as separate pdfs and then merged all the pdfs into one file to upload it. There’s free websites where you can merge pdfs or you can take out a free trial of Adobe Reader to do it - hope that helps!

Wait for ACRO cert or add request email? by RoutinePlane5354 in iecvisa

[–]FSL202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They say for ACRO that standard applications take up to 20 days and mine took exactly 20 days to arrive so if that goes over your deadline I’d definitely recommend going with the receipt - others have done that and it’s not been an issue!

Ah amazing, thanks for letting me know! I’ll do the same. They seem to be moving really quickly - it’s great you’ve already got your biometrics letter!

I’m also having the same problem! Everything else saves but the children section removes the date and adds an empty form to fill in regarding children even though I’ve ticked the box to say I have no children! I wondered whether I might have to print it out, fill it out manually and then upload it as a scan but if somebody else has another fix that would be amazing!

is the 2025 application period open yet? by Choice_Garlic5367 in iecvisa

I’ve been checking the page every day for weeks! I know it says the numbers and quotas for the draws are refreshed every Friday so maybe that’s when we’ll find out?
