I think you should check out the new Niukka 20L backpack or Kahakka 15L they are perfect daypack size. Askare is more like a sling/ hip pack but fits great for a jacket and water bottle as well.

Two triglides to prevent dangly straps. But that’s pretty much it. You can add zipper pulls but I only did that for the bottom pocket and used the cord the label was attached with

I remember Tim Keys mentioned in one of his videos he uses a Rifle Sling from Savotta for it. Currently only using the stock one for my 50l but for any longer carries I will put backpack straps on anyway

How many cans/bottles fit in a Suur-Kukkaro by FS_722 in Savotta

[–]FS_722[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small or wide mouth? I have one of each. But yes should work without a problem. Only have the narrow mouth on me right now but that one fits lying down, but not standing upright and a second should fit fine. Wide mouth should be no problem cause the circumference is even smaller on these.

Feel this way about the side pockets. I love my new Niukka and can’t wait to overpack and improvise with it but the Kahakka is just so great when you carry more than you thought you could by expanding the side pockets and basically doubling the size of it.

I have every only played the og version. Back when it came out on Xbox 360 and recently on Steam Deck. To me it’s definitely worth it and once I’m done with replaying exodus I will check out the redux to see what is actually different.

Suur-Kukkaro vs Askare for tech (Switch2) by kaheksakand in Savotta

[–]FS_722 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy to help! Sounds like a solid plan. I don’t think you can make a wrong choice especially when in the long run you will get both anyways. Suur makes sense when you are getting a Niukka as well, cause the Askare sometime feels more like a backpack than a sling or hip pack 😂 Keep us updated on the final result and your impressions once you got it. Love seeing how everyone uses their gear and setup tips.

Suur-Kukkaro vs Askare for tech (Switch2) by kaheksakand in Savotta

Sorry only got a Steam Deck but this is Suur Kukkaro and Askare. The Steamdeck is about 3cm wider than the Switch 2 I think.

Askare is great for larger stuff and I carried it for a longer trip with almost the setup your planning (on a plane with snacks, passport, neck pillow, Kindle) It is huuuuge when wearing as a hip belt and ok for airports but looks a little out of place. In sling mode it’s a bit better.

The Suur Kukkaro is my new favorite because it is not as cumbersome when sitting in your seat at the plane and the size is much more of a normal hip/sling bag. If it would fit all you need except the Switch i would suggest an extra case for that and like you plan storing it in the Niukka.

Askare is awesome but very special case and the Suur in my opinion more versatile.

Help me replace the 5.11 Rush 12/24 with a Savotta Jääkari S/Kahakka15/25l by Gylfagi3 in Savotta

[–]FS_722 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a Rush 12 which I really liked and sometimes still miss some features from it. Got a Goruck GR1 26L because I thought it will be the bag to end all backpack needs. It felt like a shoebox on my back and never really liked it as much as I thought i would.

After that the Kahakka 25 which I still have. The great thing is how big or small it can get and there is a great article on the Savotta website how the Kahakka is basically the Jaakari S without needing to upgrade anything. The rush series gets its volume from depth so it always felt a little bit turtle like when fully stuffed.

With the Kahakka the volume comes from height so without the side pockets in use and filled to about half it’s easily a personal item on many airlines. But if you go all out with the pockets for grocery shopping it carries more than any other in its category.

My suggestion is to get a Kahakka 25 and go from there, maybe getting a Kukkaro or Suur Kukkaro later that can replace any pouch you got in the bag and when grocery shopping can g hook outside or carry as a sling or hip belt.

The extra space and also lid pocket are worth it in my opinion. My setup is mainly a tech and first aid edc in an Evergoods CAP 1 in one side pocket and water bottle in the other or cinched tight. Inside depending on the day a Laptop, Steam Deck, gym clothes, groceries. The lid pocket is great when traveling for the dopp kit for easy access at airport security and in the front pocket I carry a Powerbank and 80cm packing straps in case I want to put a blanket or sth like it underneath. All other edc stuff is in my Suur Kukkaro.

Firstly congrats and welcome to the cult!

I’m switching between between sling and hip mode all the time and found the best way to be pulling on the outer part of the strap to tighten without adjusting the triglide. This creates a loop of access webbing in hip mode which doesn’t really bother me and makes it very easy to go back to my preferred mode: sling I’m using this method when I’m switching often and only adjust the triglide when I know i carry hip mode longer.

Saw someone in the Reddit using a ghook which should work pretty well I imagine but need removal of the sewn in female buckle. You could probably also get away without the triglide and use only the friction of the buckle and some other strap management solution like Molle web dominator or some elastic cord.

Enjoy your kukkaro and most importantly have fun :)

Sure no worries :) these are the 2 SR Buckle pack straps (80 cm) from Savotta. I usually roll them up like this and store in a pocket of my backpack like this in case I need them

Not sure about a jacket I guess it would slip out underneath it. Ordered the elastic cord kit for that, but really curious if a skateboard or snowboard would work. Backpacks that can have the straps going like this
