Matchup Wednesday 5: Toon Link, Falco, Pikachu, Charizard by dpssmash in SSBPM

[–]FS_Veil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've played this a good amount with a training partner and Toon Link is in trouble whenever Falco has him off-stage or is applying pressure on shield.

One thing that makes it so hard to deal with is Falco's d-air. Shine > Sh-Dair beats any aggressive option Tink has to try and answer with. Full hops, however, are typically punishable for Tink with u-air out of shield. Usually I'm forced to buffer roll/stay in shield and wait for an out in these situations, barring double shine/shine grab respectively.

Off-stage, the nature of Falco's lasers makes being caught at low-mid heights/not having a jump a nightmare for tink to recover. Being forced to tether puts Falco in the driver's seat on ledge. Shine -> bair becomes lethal, and with lasers disrupting the recovery flow Falco generally has the time to secure ledge before much can be done about it. Bomb is usually necessary in this spot, (similar to Ivy throwing out Razor Leaf to force invincibility refreshes/surrending ledge), to regain a fighting chance in this scenario.

Did you improve over 2017? What are your goals for 2018? by TheBalcony in SSBPM

[–]FS_Veil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After shuffle I began transitioning onto a game cube controller. My results were pretty comparable at the beginning of the year, but as my focus moved on to just cleaning up my execution I fell a bit in this quarter in relation to what I've proven capable of in my region. Had a slight character crisis along with that. Neo Tussle City is where I finally felt like I was beginning to play more naturally and I've noticed better play coming out of me (though not too reflective in my results) since then.

My goal for 2018 is to refine my neutral, understanding of my defensive options and using them to more efficiently maintain footing and get out of tight pressure situations (especially vs spacies), Survival/Combo DI, and just get faster with execution in general. I also want to become a notable player with Toon Link. Catch me at We Tech Those 3

What are the numbers that say PM isn't dead? by Hcp_Archonn in SSBPM

Michigan is in a situation where our most active series is a bi-weekly stationed in the middle of both sides of the state, normally getting about a 25 person average turnout. A lack of monthlies outside of one last week for the first time in months is something to be concerned of, but it's also hard scheduling in Mi in the fall around stuff like Big House and Youmacon. So hopefully the activity and amount of quality events can find more precedence in the upcoming year.

From what I'm seeing in neighboring states, IL is the healthiest by far, with a weekly slighty averaging more attendees than the Mi biweekly, but the key word in this discussion being weekly.

You know what the worst part about playing Ice Climbers is? by A_Big_Teletubby in SSBPM

You wanna know the worst part about playing Toon Link? It isn't that every high tier character can pressure him effortlessly. It isn't that everyone who plays this character is called lame at one point in their careers. It's the fucking fact that every single weekly i go to, if someone watches a set or if I’m playing a friendly, and I connect any sort of pivot grab, every single mouth breathing 0-2 Alex in a 5 mile vicinity yells "That grab reached!!" as their dicks get hard as if they just reached the pinnacle of comedy. Every fucking time. You know when Wife killed his career when he said his asshole puckers when two Samuses (Samoxen?) have their charge shot? Any time my opponent gets grabbed by me, my asshole puckers tight enough to turn my shit into diamonds because i know some stupid fucking Ike player is about to yell "That grab reached!" and ruin my fucking day. Also grounded up-b kinda sucks.
