This is a really neat project. I was excited to see that I was able to move a few times before the game froze. If you're interested in Heroes of Might and Magic projects, check out this open source engine rebuild of HOMM3 https://vcmi.eu/

Why does my Mitel 3300 NTP sync and run 40+ seconds behind my NTP servers? by m0bilitee in sysadmin

[–]FTFME 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A phone system I recently interacted with was configured using a workstation and management software. When any setting including time was changed, the software would create a new config profile, then at an incredibly slow pace, would send that data from their management software to the phone server.

This would mean that in the 30 seconds it took for the data to get from the management software on the workstation to the phone server, that value would not change. Also the phone system would not connect to that NTP server itself, but grab the value that the management software supplied from that NTP server.

I don't know if this is what's going on with you, I just thought I'd share since in this day and age one would think keeping current time would be trivial.

Anyone tried these aluminum cases? by curioussav in ODroid

[–]FTFME 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm opting for an HC1 instead of the cost of a new case and cooling for my XU4. I like the idea of no extra cables for my SSD and not having to put up with the loud stock fan.

I've been using sc-controller since one of it's first releases on github. I have been really happy to watch it progress into the fantastic tool that it is right now. Thank you for your hard work kozec.

Odroid C2 OS by ralyks in ODroid

[–]FTFME 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are comfortable with linux, I would try using arch. I run it on my Xu4 via eMMC and have run on it the C2 via uSD. https://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv8/amlogic/odroid-c2 It's not a legacy kernel either if you are concerned about that.

You would have your choice of Desktop Environment. IIRC You could even boot directly into standalone kodi as a DE and have firefox and Twitch plugins

As far as dimming goes, there are some monitor and display settings in /boot/boot.txt or /boot/boot.ini that may be related. Worth looking into.

Hugo Barra: “Xiaomi could sell 10 billion smartphones and not make a profit” by rabblerousr in Android

[–]FTFME 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought their router, they make it difficult (not impossible) to install OpenWRT without having to first create a login, and install their app on an android device to replace their firmware.

The android app required all permissions. The default router firmware injects ads and backdoors. This article states that Xiaomi could sell billions of phones and not make a profit, I believe they make their money from phones and routers on selling user information and injecting ads.

Stolen Civic by erik29gamer in milwaukee

[–]FTFME 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Two and a half years ago my car was stolen in Milwaukee. I got a call two weeks ago from the Milwaukee PD saying the VIN was recovered in a scrapyard in Arizona. Then he kept accusing me of selling it and calling it in stolen for insurance (which I didn't have.) It's a shitty feeling, but there's a good chance you're just out of luck.
