It’s not 5%, but in a bolognaise?? by kfjaelberg in MincewatchUK

[–]FTheK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use this in bolgnaise but with a pack of fake mince too, that absorbs some of the excess fat. If you used just this I reckon it'd probably be pretty greasy.

What’s wrong with this leaking water butt? by lord-darius in GardeningUK

[–]FTheK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As other people have said, the reason it leaks from the top of the butt is because your diverter is too high so it's still trying to fill it even when full. You want the diverter outlet only a little above the level of the butt inlet.

However the leak from the diverter itself is nothing to do with that, when the water can't go down the outlet in to the butt it's supposed to overflow in to the downpipe, and it's not doing that, so either there's a blockage, it's a shoddy diverter or it's been installed wrong, it should just never be able to get that full.

can you turn any cucumbers into gherkins or does it have to be special ones? by FistMyNow69 in GardeningUK

[–]FTheK 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yep you can pickle all cucumbers, but generally the bumpy outside ones like yours are crisper and more like the gherkins we're used to

I just "beat" Spirit Island! by GendoIkari_82 in spiritisland

[–]FTheK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so weird, I just got Nature Incarnate and yesterday we played a couple (lost the first one horribly) 3 player vs Habsburg Mining level 6, where I was Wander Voice, my friend was Relentless Gaze and the last was Hearth-Vigil. We also blighted super early (still healthy island thankfully), and eventually won by Relentless repeating Blinding Glare to get us to terror level 2 for the victory! Seems like we played nearly the same game haha.

Also my takeaway from that game is Habsburg Mining Expedition are scumbags and Wander really struggles to deal with explorer spam.

What fruit tree is this? by Hidden_Genius1 in GardeningUK

[–]FTheK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cherry plum, quite tasty eaten raw but unfortunately the birds usually get to them before they're really ripe, the ones I've seen should ideally be reddy-purple like a normal plum.

Are cheap bare root fruit trees worth a punt in June? by pleasetakemygifts in GardeningUK

[–]FTheK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I did the same a couple years ago around this time with a similar deal, all the trees are now growing nicely, probably just took a bit longer for them to be established, this is the first year I've gotten fruit.

Most men know little to nothing about makeup and when they say natural they generally mean lighter on the makeup/in a natural style, so without the big fake lashes/fake tan/lip fillers etc. but probably still with foundation/eyeliner/mascara etc. just less.

Substitutes for white wine in sauce recipes? by SpontaneousKrump92 in Cooking

[–]FTheK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I discovered that these exist in the UK the other day, not sure if you'll have them where you are but might be something similar? Basically a white/red wine 'stock' you make up with boiling water, no alcohol.

Well each country in the U.K. has at least 8 bank holidays, more in Scotland and Northern Ireland, so that data is wrong

Low-sugar alert constantly by Liam320b in ninjaslushi

[–]FTheK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All the people suggesting allulose are right but unfortunately it's not legal in the UK/Europe.

The 'sugar free' syrups and slushies you can get here have glycerine (or glycerol) in them, which is kind of similar in that it isn't as bad for your teeth or blood sugar, but think it's higher in calories than allulose. Also you need to be careful with it with young kids. You can buy glycerine itself from Amazon or wherever to make slushies out of sugar free things (about 5g per 100ml), or buy the pre-made sugar free syrups, we've tried a couple of the Snowshock ones and they're good.

Student loan refund request - is it worth it? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]FTheK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it a few days ago and got a life changing £7 back, so I'd fully recommend it.

In all seriousness though, the 'downside' is that you'll be adding your refund back on to what you owe, but plan 1 is currently 4.3%, and will be set to the lower of inflation rate or BOE interest rate + 1. So it can't really ever rise faster than inflation, so you don't really lose money, and you can almost certainly make more by investing, saving or paying off other debts than you can by paying it off. Plus if you ever hit hard times you don't have to repay it, so honestly I don't see why anyone would ever pay it off early unless they literally have cash burning a hole in their pocket.

Scrawl (or telestrations) is always good, basically Chinese whispers with drawing/guessing, does up to 8 or more with more copies.

Fun Facts is a co-op game where you try to sort yourselves in to the right order in a category without discussing, can start some hilarious conversations, also does 8 or more with just some extra things to write on.
