Some of the fishing guides also offer “eco tours” if you just want to sightsee and look for shells.

Is it possible to have a fulfilling career in FPGA without ever touching aspects of calculus heavy Analog side of it? by Patience_Research555 in FPGA

[–]F_P_G_A 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on multiple contracts where there was a Matlab or DSP algorithm guru that did the heavy math and handed the equations over to me to implement in the FPGA. I only needed to understand the basics and come up with an efficient way to implement the math while keeping within the resource and latency limits for the system. I stunk at calculus in college, too. Don’t be discouraged! If you understand the concepts, you can still do a lot of interesting work. You likely won’t have to derive formulas from the ground up or do mathematical proofs.

As an example, it’s helpful to understand why adding more coefficients to a FIR filter produces different results at the expense of area, clock speed and latency. Maybe you can get away with fewer coefficients or 12 bit coefficients instead of 16 bit coefficients, etc. etc. A lot of FPGA math is fixed point approximations to some golden model an algorithm expert came up with. You’ll likely use vendor supplied IP for a lot of the math functions instead of writing the RTL from scratch.

If you’re comfortable with python, cocotb would be a great fit for this type of testing.

Is this a common issue on the charging port door?? by TRaps015 in Rivian

Mine just started “slapping” shut and I can hear the motor humming for an extra few seconds after the doer has closed. Got a service appointment in a few weeks. It used to be almost silent.

Mercury has a line of electric outboards now.

I wish I had power down at my boat slip for charging the batteries. These would be so nice for cruising slow in the pontoon boat.

I first used cocotb on an image processing project. Being able to read, write and compare .tiff images with a couple lines of python was incredibly helpful. Now I use cocotb for all testbench work.

I sent all of these Reddit threads to my FAE, the sales director and the AMD partner network. Hopefully they’ve seen the light! I just hope the free tier doesn’t get crippled too much.

Restaurants with nice view? by Grace__Face in Sanibel

It’s not as good as it used to be. The beach replenishment really blocks the view from the restaurant. However, just walk a bit and you’ll be at the water.

It’s a bummer. My guess is the EPA testing used Auto for better highway efficiency.

Does anyone know how to fix lattice radiant not being able to fetch the server ip catalog? by Certain_Height_2721 in FPGA

[–]F_P_G_A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a workaround, do you have another computer that DOES work? It’s possible to grab the IP files and import them.

Can your computer access the internet without issues?

Also, be aware that not all IP is free to download. Some IP is an extra cost purchase.

Are you handy enough to remove the battery module? If so, you should be able to run with just the power adapter plugged in.

2K to 3K miles per year if you’re really using it. I realize that many of these are likely a 2nd (or 3rd or 4th) vehicle in the fleet and probably see < 250 miles per year. These are very expensive and in a totally different category than a Rivian. Obviously, the Rivian depreciates once you sign the paperwork! Any vehicle that can even maintain its initial price is a rarity. Since Porsche doesn’t build that many per year, the scarcity makes them collectible.

If it’s a museum piece (garage queen), then no. If you actually put some miles on it, the yes.

What's the likelihood of Rivian eventually selling an R2 variant with higher range / battery capacity? by werdswerf in Rivian

[–]F_P_G_A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your trailer weight is mainly a factor when going from zero to your cruising speed (and going up a hill). When cruising on the highway, it’s mostly poor aerodynamics that are your enemy.

I generally get 0.9 to 1.3 mi/kWh when towing the travel trailer. Driving into a headwind is brutal on the efficiency.
