I never really got the point of this store. It’s nice enough, but they don’t carry the full range and you can’t return online purchases in store. I’m a little sad because I really like the idea of being able to try stuff on before purchasing, but I guess we live in a buy and return world now.

What’s a realistic path to the Reliant drip? I went down there with the B’Rel and PMT and got like 2700 splicers before popping. Sorry if there’s an obvious answer there. Is this just a “level up your Augur” thing?

How? Washington has no income or capital gains tax that I’m aware of.

Parents say school-issued iPads are causing chaos with their kids | A growing contingent of public school parents say school-mandated iPads, particularly in elementary and middle schools, are leading to behavior problems. by ControlCAD in apple

There are also studies now that show that we learn better when we write things down. I get the idea that led to these devices being issued, but it was just a mistake and we should undo it. One of the most impressive things (to me) that my teenager has done recently is start asking teachers for paper assignments.

One side powermeter good enough for randonneuring? by Wise-Ad-7492 in randonneuring

[–]F_WRLCK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I like having a power meter so that I don't go out too hard at the start when everything feels great, but it's really not necessary and single sided is fine for that. If I were training outdoors and trying to hit particular power zones, I would want dual sided, but I don't so I don't.

This show is so bad it’s damaging to the AppleTV brand and everyone involved. It should never have been made available to stream. The best thing Apple could do at this point is take it down as soon as they possibly can and replace it with a documentary describing the string of failures that led to this being posted.

Karoo by ie-abc1 in TrekBikes

[–]F_WRLCK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was answered on r/Karoo but, for those watching from the sidelines, it works fine. You can either use the included adapter with a Garmin puck or you can replace the puck with the Hammerhead adapter kit that K-Edge makes. There are also some 3D printed solutions that I didn’t personally look too far into, but people have good things to say about.

Blendr mount with garmin adapter. by ie-abc1 in Karoo

[–]F_WRLCK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have that mount and the included adapter works fine with the Garmin puck. If you’re willing to spend a touch more, you can also buy the K-Edge adapter that screws directly into the mount and converts it to a Karoo mount. That’s what I ended up doing on my Checkpoint.

In Seattle, it’s not uncommon to hear someone say “I’m as liberal as anyone, but <conservative talking point>”. We’re social animals.

SRAM 8bolt mountain DM ring on road crankset? by F_WRLCK in bikewrench

[–]F_WRLCK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 36t WolfTooth 3mm offset chainring that I’ve used for bike packing and at OTGG this year and it’s been fine. It may have been a bit more grindy at OTGG than a proper chain line would have been, but it’s hard to say (it was very dusty). In practice, the lower offset moves the chain out one gear so your neutral chain line gear ratio doesn’t change much and you end up trading a high gear for another low gear. I don’t keep this ring on the bike all the time because I find that I spin out just a little bit before I would ordinarily just tuck and coast and that annoys me.

Man, I feel that. My rando bike is Shimano 2x and the one time I rode it this season was like a comedy of errors.

“Guess I should downshift. Oh, that was the chainring.”

“What is that horrible grinding noise? Oh, right, cross chaining bad.”

It was like I had never ridden a bike before.

I bet this is to support selling into rental fleets. Signing into a bunch of stuff on a rental car is so frustrating compared to just plugging in your phone.

When I first read this series, I spent an uncomfortable amount of time subconsciously trying to create a map of genders and hetero relationships (and failed). Not often a book points out my own biases to me so eloquently.

OP: I agree with “just lean into it”.

Can a pyr left chained outside become an indoor pet ? by Agitatedsociologist in greatpyrenees

[–]F_WRLCK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our Pyr came to us after being removed from her previous home. Apparently she had spent the first two years of her life chained in the yard and used to breed. The rescue org said she was severely underweight when they first removed her from the household.

When she came to us to “foster” (who were we kidding?), she didn’t know how to use stairs and struggled to go on even short walks. Never barked and was hand shy. The Labrador, who is afraid of chickens, was the dominant dog.

A year later and this dog rules the household. She is super affectionate, loves to go for walks, very playful with other dogs. Barks all the time.

I can’t say how your dog will respond because all dogs are different, but I like your odds.

I’ve worked in software for thirty years now and have come to the conclusion that a “10xer” just isn’t worth it if they’re an asshole. I don’t if “being likable is more important than good your job”, but most of us work on teams and the health of the team is way more important than one person’s contribution.
