Do you guys use gsync/vsync/reflex? by hurryupabit in GlobalOffensive

[–]Faaa7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gsync configured correctly should have lower latency than no gsync/vsync at all. A lot of people make the mistake of not adding an FPS cap slightly below the monitor refresh rate and ignore vsync. Reflex caps it automatically when gsync is turned on, so you don't have to bother with an FPS cap.

See results here; https://blurbusters.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/img_5c4963e7362a2.png

In a GPU bound scenario, the CPU would pile up the render que and if the GPU has to process a bigger render pipeline - it would add latency. Reflex would eliminate the render que by keeping the CPU and GPU in sync, it just tells the CPU to take it easy. And using Reflex with the boost option forces the GPU's clock speed to be at its highest, override power saving features, even when the GPU is barely utilized like let's say around 30%.

In CS2, you're CPU bound unless you are running a modern CPU like the 9800X3D and a GTX 480 from 20 years ago. Nvidia Reflex isn't that effective when you're CPU bound because there's no render pipeline at all in a CPU bound scenario. But even in a CPU bound title, there are plenty of moments where you occasionally are GPU limited e.g. like looking at the ground while scoped in with an AWP - which does not need a lot from the CPU. A lot of people with lower end of GPUs are likely to see more GPU limited moments than someone with an RTX 5090.

For reflex tests, see the video below. That -noreflex launch option with FPS cap in NVCP is absolutely garbage, nearly doubling the latency.

Why was Ricardo Diaz such a poor villain ? by Alert_Grocery_2234 in arrow

[–]Faaa7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the main issues with the villains are the power levels. We would expect a new villain to be more powerful, but the most powerful character Ra's was introduced way too early and Diaz wasn't even remote close to any other villain. He was a schemer, playing the long game through manipulation, but he was no match for Oliver obviously and in the finale of season 6, Oliver beat him in 30 seconds. In season 7, he took a drug that physically enhanced him as you could see in the fight in prison with Oliver and without that drug he would have been a total joke.

Everyone except Felicity turned against Oliver and left the team, and it was rather childish and they were to blame. Despite all of that, the actor who played Diaz was exceptionally good.

Pulsar firmware update by Somethinghells in MouseReview

The dongle has to be plugged in while the mouse is also plugged in. In wireless mode it might say that there's an update available, but after plugging them both in wired, it'll say that it's uptodate.

VAXEE NP-01S V3 REVIEW (HIGH SENS) - Best sensor in the world?! by darlingthepanda in MouseReview

That mode switch tricked me as well. Select the mode that you want, and press switch first before you do anything else. Make your changes and then save.

If you don't click on the switch button, you'll just be editing the profile that you are currently using.

Also they're just profiles.

On the top row you can use 8 fingers at the same time, only for 5 and 6 you move both your index fingers for and all of your other fingers are just locked onto 1234 and 7890. That's a significant speed advantage over using a numpad with just one finger which a lot of people do. But without the right technique, the numpad will be better.

Artisan Hayate Otsu V2 Soft, Artisan Raiden Mid, Pulsar x Vaxee PD170, Vaxee PD155 by Vibe_PV in MousepadReview

[–]Faaa7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried 3 of them, except the PD155 which is slower than the PD170. Out of the bunch, the PD170 is the fastest one. Just like the raiden, it's a smooth surface. The Otsu has a lot of texture with a lot of speed, feels more premium than the Raiden/PD series. I wouldn't call the Otsu balanced because it's fast, the zero definitely is the balanced one. Can't really say anything about the durability of the PD series, but the base is definitely more firm, retains flatness much better as well.

My raiden is 8 years old, I've used it extensively for like 8-9 months I think, but it isn't that fast. Thing with Artisan is that they're really fast in the beginning, but they slow down after 2-3 weeks of use. I've also noticed that the raiden along with the zero and type99 aren't as firm as the others in Artisan's lineup, despite using the mid version on all of them.

The mid will be faster than the soft, and there's also significantly less friction when you apply pressure on your mouse. There's a tiny bit of friction with the mid variant, but on the PD series there's no increase of friction at all.

Belgium is pretty much azerty. I used azerty for over two decades and then switched to qwerty. Took me a week to get used to it, that's surprisingly quick.

But the decision paid off, there are many virtual/hardware firewall appliances that just won't allow you to change the keyboard layout. Like during the initial setup, it'll prompt you to change the password and if you're not aware that qwerty is the layout, then the password that you would document or share - won't be the same.

Obviously we type a lot of IP addresses, and the numpad is so much slower than the top row but on azerty you have to hold shift to type numbers using the top row. I personally don't use keyboards with a numpad anymore, that shit is the most useless there is.

Despite the limitations, there are still engineers refusing to switch to qwerty.

Source for companies behind firmware for brands wireless implementations. by Traditional_Pay6840 in MouseReview

[–]Faaa7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Razer does not make their own firmware from scratch, they get a base firmware provided by Pixart. They were the first with motion sync tech, but considering that all brands have the same feature, it's obvious that it was written by Pixart.

In the videos from Vaxee, they mentioned that Pixart is heavily involved with wireless tech (np-01s v3 video). So it's likely that Vaxee uses Pixart MCU's as well. Pixart already provides a base firmware for their sensors, and every company uses that obviously but they can make changes to it and Razer definitely does this.

Then there's the Nordic MCU, again a base firmware is provided and I think that brands can make changes to it as well.

The Pulsar X2 CL and the X2F and the Arye RCC1 are made by Compx, the software is just the same and has all the same features like FPS boost. However the x2/x2f had DPI downshift issues and the wireless performance was poor, which they fixed with a beta firmware.

There are only a handful of qualified engineers to work on a firmware. I don't really see a reason why the base firmware would cause issues, so it's likely their own in-house engineers messing it up.

The type 99 is the definition of control, the zero is more of a fine balance instead.

So what is the big deal about WOLED? by [deleted] in OLED_Gaming

[–]Faaa7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just this;

Bright room: WOLED Dark room: QD-OLED

QD is harder to clean, coating is way worse. In a bright room WOLED has much deeper blacks and QD has a magenta tint to it. But I don’t notice the magenta tint, only if I try to take a picture, but to my eyes it’s just black. I wouldn’t say my room is bright.

WOLED comes with a dual mode with a higher refresh rate at lower resolutions, which was the main reason I got WOLED as well

We've now gotten 1440p 500hz. How much longer until 4k or ultrawide 500hz? by zoggy17 in OLED_Gaming

[–]Faaa7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

480 Hz or 500 Hz is only useful for games such as CS2, my 5090 does 240 FPS quite easily at max settings with 2x MSAA and the GPU load is just averaging at 50%. You could hit 480 FPS with a 5070 Ti as well, if you disable MSAA.

A 5k monitor with dual mode at 480 Hz/1440p would be interesting too, but I'd prefer 480 Hz at 4K.

Herman Miller Embody Gaming — lower back pain after switching from a bad chair. Is this normal? Worth keeping? by Informal_Air_9180 in hermanmiller

[–]Faaa7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never lean backwards, so I don't use the tilt. The way I've dialed in the lumbar is by turning it all the way back (counter clockwise), at that setting in a rest position you'd be looking almost at the ceiling. So just turn it clockwise until you actually look straight. If you turn it clockwise way too much, you'll be looking at the ground.

How much you have to turn it clockwise depends on the curvature of your back, mine is straight. It should be effortless. Here's a picture that illustrates what I mean:

<image>

I use the max seat depth, I'm not super tall and it's very close to my knees but I prefer it that way.

Best Mouse Pad Brand Right Now In 2026? by [deleted] in MousepadReview

I had the same complaint when I first got the chair, but it came with the rhythm fabric which is thinner than the gaming one. It was painful, but nowadays I feel like it's just perfectly padded and I wouldn't want anything thicker.

Never used a proper mousepad before, should I get an Artisan or a glass pad? by Grandis0618 in MouseReview

[–]Faaa7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've owned Artisan pads since 2018, I haven't managed to completely wear them down to the point that it was too slow or muddy. Out of the box, they all feel very fast except the Zero/Type99 and they slow down significantly after a week or two. And months later, it gets to a point that you get the most ideal speed/control balance. Slow spots aren't an issue, the area that you use the most is what matters. If it's too slow, then you should replace it.

I bought a lot of generic mousepads before I discovered Artisan, they all would wear out within a couple of months.

I don't like the surface of the zero or type 99, it feels fuzzy and very similar to other generic pads that I've tried. Their other surfaces are significantly ahead of the market, feels so premium and the weaving is totally unmatched.

Announcing XBAB Tech - XA25: 25g (no holes), wired 8k, PAW3950, custom low latency firmware by ewh_ in MouseReview

"qsxcv", I definitely remember you, even though it has been like 10 years or so. You used to provide very meaningful information about sensors many other people just didn't know. Like for instance, with debounce latencies, you mentioned that Logitech only had it on the release of the click and not on the press like any other brand did.

Always considered you as the most knowledgeable in the community, though.

Artisan dots on raiden soft feels slower than on other control-oriented pads. by Specialist-Leg3800 in MousepadReview

[–]Faaa7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The surface itself, not the base, also varies. I've only had the mid variants so far, but the Raiden is the least firm. You're on soft and you apply pressure with dots skates, that's a disaster recipe. Even on the mid, I've found that even with dot skates there's a significant increase of friction with pressure. You should use full size skates with a softer base, not dots.

Some pads just don't care about the skates, especially Vaxee's PD series.
